I did it! I got the contact I interviewed for. I just need to go through reference checks and I'll start in a week. Everything has worked out and lined up for once.

This will get me on the other side of Christmas if I don't get anything else, and it will give me recent experience in the space I want to work in again.

23

Thanks everyone. This 2 weeks has gone from a rather stressful period to a kind of paid holiday by my old work. I'm ready to put clunky systems, sales teams, and clueless managers behind me. It's been great having this space to vent and get support from everyone while I've gone through this

This has turned the termination into a blessing in disguise because I'd been speaking to recruiters and the biggest thing stopping me from moving into a contract was my notice period

3
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

Is it just a short term contract you’re getting? Any chance of it being extended?

2

Yeah, it's about 6 months and these things do tend to get extended. I can put in for longer term things in that time or just see what happens where I am

2

God work is over. I need sleep and maybe some uber eats.

Tbh I'm still buzzing.

When I first got sober, the guy I lived with had a friend who ran open mic nights in Brunswick.

He got me to go along to watch and I ended up doing them for about a year every week. Was probably one of the few things that made me feel good about myself in those early days. Where you try to figure out who you are and what the hell normal life is supposed to be.

Once it was my birthday and they brought out a cake which was probably the happiest I'd been in more than 5ish years.

I stopped when I got into bands playing guitar again, and with Tafe and work, just stopped singing in general.

The band I was mainly concentrating on, and had an album recorded, gigs lined up etc died when lock downs happened.

Last night was a real big step back into live music. Thanks again everyone for all your support over the last 12ish months.

Means a hell of a lot ❤️

I'm really regretful that I didn't come. It sounds like you were amazing and that everyone had a lot of fun!

All good! I'll be going every 2nd week I reckon as it gives me time to learn new material. So if you ever feel like it, hit me up :)

As a fundraiser, the school sent us to a website where you can view some art your kid has done and then order it as a pillow, tote bag, calendar or a bunch of other options. Only this website lets you look at every piece of art that every kid in the school has done and pick any art any kid at the school has done. You just say I want this kid's art on my $15 tote bag, thanks.

My dilemma is my kid is not the greatest artist in the school.

16
aussie.zone

If you want to send a message to encourage art improvement, get another kids art on a tote or framed lol

5

Maybe if you want you can ask him if he wants to pick one out as well.

Ps. Can you please approve Seagoon's new login details.

HR dumped this on a random desk in my office to show their gratitude for all we do. Starts off with "Hi team". There's two people who work in this area, me and someone else and we aren't in the same team, not even in the same site technically.

Dunno why they couldn't be honest and just say they found this at the back of their cupboard when doing a clean out. It would have been less insulting.

15
aussie.zone

Someone in HR has children that no longer likes these snacks so has empty their pantry on your desk.

10
aussie.zone

Exactly my thoughts, lol.

Comes on the same day the site I work at was in the news because someone went whistle blowing to the media about conditions.

Very Homer Simpson "Inanimate? I'll show you inanimate" vibes.

8

Probably done with the "best of intentions", trouble is best of intentions really don't mean shit when acting on behalf of the company.

9
aussie.zone

Nah. I have a weird thing about packet food from strangers so I won't touch it.

5
aussie.zone

Something that's not getting as much publicity as it probably should. This got put up in the Coburg library, a friend of mine alerted me to it last night.

13
aussie.zone

Googling it because I've never heard of it before:

"A rare and exotic bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue"

exotic makes it sound so appealing, lol.

6

until you find out it's carried by possum shit and then you freak out

3

That's wild are you gonna ask your dr for the test? It would be good if it can be cleared with antibiotics. Edit: nvm I just saw your post yesterday

Now I'm worried about the dry skin around my nose, though I'm sure it's just allergies. I hope you feel better soon, Peeler, it's gonna be okay 💜

6
aussie.zone

ooh I had one a few years ago on the back of my calf. Was basically a 10c coin sized thing that took about a year to go away. Got it from down the bellarine where it's quite common. For me it was really mild / didn't hurt or itch. Interestingly the bacteria belongs to the same family as tuberculosis and leprosy.

5

Mine started like a ringworm looking thing, so I treated it accordingly and it flared up massively and popped up in a couple of other places on my biceps and thighs. Then I went to the Dr and he thought it was Impetigo so prescribed me antibiotics for a week. It did nothing and during that week spread even worse. Now I have open ulcerating wounds on my thighs and biceps, with other spots like the original ones popping up on my calves and lower arms 😳😳😳

It's a Friday and I'm still feeling despondent and miserable in my bones despite every effort to cheer up. What a drag... At least I'm meeting up with a friend on Sunday as a reward for the mega-clean I gotta do tomorrow. Booked in 4 rental inspections for Sat, Mon and Tue. None are exactly ideal places but I gotta start inspecting at least for my own mental health.

13
aussie.zone

I hope you find something suitable. What's happened is really, really fucked up.

The power imbalance between landlord and renter in this country is insane. It breeds a contempt for renters.

Australia could be a paradise, but instead we're desperately trying to find somewhere to live. For a 1st world country to be using housing as a commodity is repugnant.

8

Thanks mate. I agree that the obsession with real estate as investment and this rent-seeking economy has been deleterious to the fabric of society on so many levels. It is not good for anyone's psyche...

I'm increasingly convinced that the only real way I'll earn enough decent coin is to live with family for a while rather than upskill/work harder. Not easy living with them (and they're interstate), but easier than sharehousing with strangers at this age.

It's otherwise so futile, pissing away so much of my hard work just to pay someone else's mortgage and taxes.

9
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

I hope you have some luck looking at the rentals this week.

At least looking might give you some options. Hopefully the pricing will be better too in light of that.

Relax and have a nice dinner tonight.

8

There is one place I just saw that I'm keen on, it is a bit further away but not hugely (15-20 min drive to work) and ticks every other box. Inspection tomorrow morning.

I'm prefilling the application so I can apply asap if it suits, although my latest payslip doesn't reflect my updated annual pay (as my change in hours kicks in from next pay cycle), and I haven't asked for a rental ledger from my current LL yet.

I'm worried that I won't be a very competitive tenant given that I'm single and on a confusing PT wage but I just gotta try.

Finally got food into me.

Not feeling too great today. Was out grocery shopping and felt a wave of dizziness and, ears felt blocked and I came down with major sweats.

If I didn’t have a wall or trolley with me I would have needed to sit down right then and there.

Anyway I did manage to do my shopping and I am home now.

Going to maybe get another sandwich and coffee and sit down for awhile.

Sox is being unbearably cute today. Cuts through the ennui a bit, even though I've been neglecting her, lost in my own darkness. I've carefully kept away her very long whisker from last night as a good luck charm for the weeks ahead.

::: spoiler kawaii :::

11

If you can, I highly recommend burying your face in her fur. It really calms me; just move away if she stops purring. As long as you don't use your hands, may tolerate it. It really helps me stay grounded, the smell of mickey, his scent mixed lightly with the clean litter. They're soothing animals.

Saving whiskers is something I wish I started sooner. But I've been collecting them now and keeping them in a tin container. I hope to make him a toy with them when I have enough because he likes to eat them lol. I think keeping soxcats whiskers is a good omen, a positive influence that cats (and animals) can bring to our lives.

Wishing you a chill, cool night, Kitten. 💜💜💜

One thing I was taught when I was in scouts and cadets at school was to dig a little moat around your tent. Didn't work.

5

so, word on the street is that it is going to be a hot, humid summer. Any ladies here able to give recs for a hairdresser who can deal with fine....ahem....frizzy hair that has a tendency to curl? Shorter, rather than longer styles.

8

I have fine hair and I go to one of those Asian hairdressers that you have to sit and wait in turn. They're quick, don't try to chat to me and I'm out in quick time. I get a shoulder length cut and it costs me around $25.

5

Just ate a toastie that when I saw it I thought "hmm, it doesn't look great, but slim pickings, so whatever"... how wrong I was proven. Mushrooms, cheese, pesto, perfectly salty and heavenly and happiness!

A surprise but firm squirrel grip. When he opens his mouth in shock, you shovel in the yogurt.

8

I've been doing yoghurt and muesli for breakfast for years since it's healthy and I can't think of something better. That could be an option

3

a really easy salad dressing is just to mix some yoghurt with a teaspoon of dijon (or other nustard, but dijon works well) and a touch of water. A salad would also be good for recovery...

Smoothie? Get mild tasting natural yoghurt (I like jalna if I don't make it myself) and add banana peanut butter and some water or milk to top it up ? Or a handfull of frozen berries .

1

I dug out what I thought was a combination DVD and VHS player and plugged it into the TV, turns out it was just a really big DVD player. I couldn't get it working with the RCA inputs into the receiver so I've just hooked up the other DVD player for the moment. The current DVD player also has RCA output and that didn't work either, so it could be the cable.

I put on some DVDs for the kids and it was so much better. You know what you're in for, the shows have a proper start and end, and they can pick out a DVD like they do books when they're ready

OK guys I need some help.

Edit: waiting till Sunday. I want to have a good night out tomorrow and I know if I grab one today, tmrw night ain't happening.

7
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone
  1. you hate fun
  2. you dislike treating yourself to things you deserve
  3. the idea of playing awesome games like rift apart, FFXVI, Spiderman2 or Astrobot makes your skin crawl.

Have you finished BG3 yet?

8
aussie.zone

I had to sell my ps5 when I was unemployed so never got to finish bg3. Which fucking sucked tbh.

I'm super keen to grab one, was just trying to think of negatives to balance the equation.

6
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone

ok so to be realistic, do you have enough savings that if the company went under tomorrow you'd be ok till you secured a new job?

6
aussie.zone

I have about 6 months of savings. It was the first thing I did when I get my first couple of paycheques.

I have 6 months rent saved plus all expenses.

8
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone

to be blunt, then I cant see a good reason NOT to get a PS5 if its what you really want. keep in mind a steamdeck is now around 700 bucks though, and EVENTUALLY most Sony games come to steam.

7

with a dock I think so yeah. But the steamdeck isnt the most powerful thing in the world hence the price. the ROG Alley or Lenovo Legion thing may be a better bet, but then they are more expensive.

3

Are you thinking of disc or digital unit?

4
aussie.zone

Disc. And that was my concern. I'm trying to rebuild my social life after 7ish months of forced hermitage.

Yeah. I think that's the my main fear.

3

As long as you've got enough self control to prioritise things and not let it get away from you then I think it'd be ok.

4
tombruzzoreply
aussie.zone

The PS5 Pro will sell for $1200 here. You can get a cheap gaming PC for that price and have access to your Steam, GOG, and Epic library, as well as using it for everything else you can use a PC for. Get a controller and a loungeroom keyboard and you can use it from the couch just as easily as a console.

That's my reason against. If you've already got games on PS5 then it's a harder argument against it

4
aussie.zone

Damn good point. My current studio pc is a 5600x 32gb ram and an rtx 2070 with some m2 ssds.

Say I was to build a higher spec studio pc, would my current one be enough for gaming?

3
tombruzzoreply
aussie.zone

That's a heck of a studio PC. I think it would work fine, you may need to upgrade the graphics card depending on what you want to play but you don't have to go top spec there

2

I'm going to upgrade to an AM5 CPU and up the ram to 64gb. The virtual instruments I use eat up insane amounts of ram. For example, 1 drumkit can take upto 15gb of ram.

But cheers, I reckon this will do nicely for a loungeroom gaming pc.

1
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

Ps5 pro will cost way more than just 1200. It doesn’t even come with a disc drive so that has to be purchased separately.

If you for some reason want a stand too you need to shell out extra for it.

I think personally it’s the worst upgrade to come out ever.

2

Umm if you do get it I would almost say get it tomorrow.

If you unpack it and stuff you’ll need to update it and all that jazz and if you’ve got digital games on your account already, we’ll BG3 is digital only you’re going to need time to download it as well.

3
