Modern standards
What are modern tunes that might become jazz standards? E.g., songs that are being played in your local jazz scene, at your school, etc.
Not necessarilly universally acknowledged as standards, I'm just curious what modern tunes are fun to play in a jazz setting. Stuff like Strasbourg / St. Denis, videogame and movie soundtracks, etc.
Adam Neely made a video about how video soundtracks are becoming the new jazz lexicon. There are apparently regular videogame jazz jams in NYC. Not sure how well it's catching on everywhere else though.
Yeah, great point! That video made me realize there is a large corpus of videogame music to incorporate into jazz.
