Oh no.

Thought it was just run of the mill food poisoning or something.

Hope you’re ok. Please keep us updated and if there’s anything we can help you with.

Yeah, it probably is just food poinsing. They gave me some medication to help, and I'm feeling better now

This misty rainy weather is making me think about jumping on a tram up to chinatown for some dumplings. Bit of pan fried pork or xiaolongbao could go very nicely.

Edit: went for spicy wontons

13

Aye, I agree.

I had some washing machine dramas a few weeks ago. I called some service people to get quotes, one was very aggressive with trying to book me in and lock me in to paying and the 2nd one was a very nice guy who told me the truth that it might not be worth my money to call him out for a problem that might not be a simple fix.

People like that are so rare and wish more people like the 2nd guy I called cared more about their customers.

Yep, over the years we have curated a collection of fine tradies - a sparky, a plumber and a general handyman. All reliable and good at what they do.

At least someone’s enjoying this rainy weather. Image is of at least 4 black cockatoos in a tree fern.

Just to really make my last day interesting, I seem to have eaten something bad, or come down with something, and now I'm sick, so now I get to pack my boxes with a bucket next to me the whole time

Well well....looks like our credit card has been compromised in the last week. Quite a few transactions for Uber (our Uber account is paid from the joint a/c. not the CC) and a $150 FoodHub order (neither of us have that app). Good on the bank for being available on a Sunday morning to deal with it and arrange new cards. They will investigate, but said that this is happening so often that it could take many weeks to get to the bottom of it. Stay vigilant folks, check your statements frequently.

11

I have online banking and usually keep around $50-100 at a time on the card, and receive notifications as soon as a charge (or an attempt to) comes through.

sh.itjust.works

I don't even have a credit card, only a debit card with no overdraft and like 3 bucks in there, but I keep mine locked when I'm not using it and unlock it when I need to

4

Definitely a fan of locking it when not in use. (Just have to remember if you have debits coming out as that might pose a problem.)

It took brushies for Gibson to remember who I was and relax. It's so good to be home.

I was staying at an airbnb a 5 Min walk to work so it was: get up, go to work, come home, wait for work the next day. Blergh!

I'm going to spend the next few hours playing guitar to my hearts content.

And of course the stringy toy for Gibson.

Hope everyone had a great night 😊

Life increasingly feels again like a list of never ending chores. I tick everything off on the daily planner and then have these crushing feelings of despair when I turn the page to a new day and a blank slate - I have MORE things to do?!??!?! Do they ever stop?! Can I just stop (again) (and for longer this time)?

And yet, doing the chores endlessly on Animal Crossing was somehow therapeutic and relaxing... maybe because it's so much darn easier to earn Bells...

10
aussie.zone

Adulting is fucking relentless and a drag at times. My kids are all "you grown ups can spend as much as you want and buy whatever you like and do whatever you want" and I'm like "yeah but the minutiae child, the minutiae!"

10

I can spend 10 hours on my phone and have nuggets for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I also have to call the electricity companies.

6

Haha, sweet children, flexibility of time and money is never free, it comes at a cost... I saw how much of a toll all the usual expectations took on my mum and didn't particularly look forward to that part when growing up tbh.

5

Wake up, drink water
Eat maybe, do a poo
Save time, pee in shower
Get dressed, much to do
Drive to work, fuck traffic
Run for tram or train
Running late, do not panic
Roadworks to blame
Get to work, put on smile
Say hello, morning, hey
Urgent tasks in a pile
Run ragged through the day
More traffic, drive home
Cook dinner, wash dishes
Do washing, stay up to one
Rinse repeat, tired and listless.

My tamagotchi from 2.5 decades ago is still starving in a corner somewhere.

learnt from a young age chores are not my thing.

5

I already keep it to as low as I can function on, but shit creeps up where if I don't do something soon I'll lose money (like trying to return this unused but partly opened $110 USB laptop charger, which I've left gathering dust for 29 days, to JBHifi...)

4

Today's my last day before the big move. I've barely packed at all, and there's still about a dozen other things I want to do before I move onwards and hopefully upwards ig

I'm not taking any furniture so that helps a bit, but when I was going through my shelves I was spending way too much time being sentimental on small knick knacks and trinkets I've received over the years, so that doesn't help

I'm also slightly stressed about the logistics of moving day. All my boxes will fit in one trip, but I don't think my computer chair will fit with anything else. On top of that, I'm not sure I really trust a cardboard box with scrunched up newspapers to keep my PC and monitors safe, so I'll probably want to hold those, but I'm also not an octopus so I can't hold it all. Then when I get there at midday, I've got to build my bed, go grocery shopping, and if I have any energy leftover maybe build my desk and a bedside table

(Ok, it's only assembling, but tbf some of those flat pack furnitures are so complicated and difficult, I think taking some wood and actually building from scratch wouldn't be too much harder)

9

One day at a time. Do your bed, take two trips. We all spend ages on feeling senitmental when packing up our stuff. It's a good exercise. Yeah flat pack furnitue always takes longer than expected I find.

8

Good luck mate! When I was younger moving was all a bit of an adventure. The older I get the more it seems to suck

1 cup flour. 1 tsp yeast, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 cup plain yoghurt, 1/4-1/2 cup warm water ( enough to make a soft dough ) . Mix. knead a little. Let rise, knead a little. Let rise again.,about 2 hours in total. Cut into 4, roll into a thin circle, cook on greased fry pan on high heat. Turning once. It's done when it puffs up.

Just back from a very nice social occasion with quite a few people I don't really know, and only two that I do. It was alcohol free, and normally that would be a bit tough for me - socialising with people I don't know while sober, but it was actually really pleasant and fun 😊

I'd like to pat myself on the back for actually eating all 3 meals today and getting halfway through a decent self help workbook and Having Big Destabilising But Also Cathartic Emotions and still being able to clear out the fridge, clean the kitchen, take the bins out, and prep my clothes and bags etc for the next day.

I might be behind on work, but I'm miraculously ahead on my sense of calm and centredness, and I'm going to sleep well tonight, and that's the best thing I can do for my whole self to get ready to tackle the other things I don't want to do.

I did unwittingly trap the cat in the garage for an hour because she silently snuck in while I was taking the bins out (and I was told she hates the garage) - but because I always give her a goodnight kiss I went looking for her and after coldly zooming in and ignoring me for a bit I think hostilities have calmed. Sorry puss I would've never intentionally left you there :'(

I picked him up and undid the whole collar to get it unhooked easily. So I'm definitely going to have to see if I can make the loop even smaller. I made a sandwich out of the small tin of kippers.

It was smoked and salted very nice and here was surprisingly a lot of meat to make a sandwich out of.

Texture was nice and soft but the smoked taste of it was so delicious.

This was the Brunswick kippers as well.

7

Glad your enjoying them! I ate a tin of Brunswick Kippers with some hotsauce for lunch/a snack. Even though I've had them them a few times now, I was literally just thinking to myself: omg... These are so damn good, how is this tin under $2

I’d definitely think about getting more of them. I love it so much more than tuna. I don’t like the texture of tuna as much as the kippers or even herring.

3
aussie.zone

100% agree. I don't mind canned tuna, but I actually just really enjoy sardines and herring/Kippers. Also been enjoying mussels, but not as much as the Kippers for sure. Completely different taste and texture to tuna

I still have the John west kippers to try as well

I’ll probably save it for next’s lunch or something. Will be interesting to see if it’s as good as the one I had today.

I haven’t tried sardines. Are they very salty and what is the texture of them like compared to Herring?

2

I would say most sardines taste a fair bit less salty than the Brunswick Kippers. Texture is softer - less flaky. Taste is quite different, sardines definitely taste like sardines and not much else.
There are also, broadly speaking, two different varieties. One type is 'standard' let's say, they are about the size of... A narrower tim-tam. These are more strongly flavoured, and softer.
Type two, are called 'briesling' sardines. They are significantly smaller. Maybe 60% the size of a pinky finger. They have a much milder taste, and firmer texture. I prefer the brieslings by a lot. If I can recommend one to you, it would be 'King Oscar Briesling Sardines in Olive oil'. They're about $2.50 in Coles. Go great by themselves with some sauce, mixed into scrambled eggs, pasta, whatever. Give em a go ☺️

7

I like the cut of your jib. Something useful for people to engage with and enjoy.

6
aussie.zone

Was this CoM or the developer?

Agree it was stupid to try and jazz it up and call it an "urban forest" at this stage, it cheapens the term.

You'd also hope there would be more of a push to use softer landscaping elements and facades rather than harsh concrete. But hopefully the plants will kick off soon.

Cos honestly I do think you should give it a chance - those plants are just bebehs, let them grow and it might turn your head in a few years

Just to give you an example of how different they can look, here's Hawke St reserve in West Melb when it was newly redone in late 2018 and here it is after less than a years growth. And here it is this year after about 5 years of growth.

7

Presumably that'll come in as they mature. Putting in larger/more mature plants can sometimes be a gamble in terms of higher cost and higher chance of transplant shock, for a more immediate effect. Maybe some cheap ornaments might've helped with colour at least

4
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

I think they are really nicely made, they just need huge plantings of lush greenery and masses of flowers, then have nice seating all around

4
bull⚡reply
aussie.zone

They're just plain grey concrete though. They could have tried to give them some sort of character! But then if it had character they wouldn't really fit Docklands' soulless corporate-designed theme.

4

They are a start, not a finish. Can't have plants without a garden. ( tho I can see nice plantings being stolen or wrecked )

4

It'll probably look better once it kicks on and gets growing, but it is pretty underwhelming. Would it have killed them to add a decent sized shrub or three?

It'll be in a fortnight which sucks, but our schedules don't line up any more. It was fine when I was just on Centrelink, because we could spend their days off together, but now that I'm a Mon - Fri girlie, it's tough.

I got Pikmin 3 for Christmas the year it came out and it was everything I dreamed of. I never got to play it back on the Wii U because I was poor, so finally getting my hands on it was fantastic. Only downside is that it felt rather short, but that could be me.

I got 3 for Christmas as well and was thinking about popping it in but with 1 and 2 coming out in stores later this year should I wait?

4

I haven't played 1 or 2, but I didn't feel lost at all playing it because the story of 3 is pretty similar to 1 and 2 it's just a different character. Which is similar with 4 tbh. But yeah, no I really enjoyed 3, I thought that the controls were fine, they were great. 4 really tightens the controls but with the use of Oatchi you've got so many other different controls to remember. I find that difficult, but 3 was great. It was just too short imho. But yeah, I mean if you want to wait you can (1 + 2 is out digitally on the Switch but I'm probably going to wait till physical release because I like physical copies). But 3 was great.

2

I did manage to toss out a few boxes, but most of the stuff I'll be keeping, it's just a mess. Mostly my preserving supplied, which have been shoved in lots of various spaces over time due to lack of space. I've finally organised space to consolidate everything, but until I have more sorted it's hard to tell where it is going to fit. Plus I've been shoving back empty jars and things all over the place because it's not sorted and making it worse. I did managee to sort enough that I'm not tripping over things in there anymore, so progress is being made.

2

I'd forgotten that swinging a golf club a bunch of times plus placing golf balls on tees over and over is actually a little bit of a workout for the critically unfit. Feels good though. Lovely little place.. I have a fantasy where I buy a regional Victorian place and use it as a holiday house and eventually retire there. This is the kind of place I would almost select. My fantasy requires an old combustion stove (still operational) in the kitchen and functional fireplaces, plus solar panels, electric appliances, vegetable garden and water tanks. As I said, a complete fantasy!

Chickens, yes. 🐓 I don't think there is space for a goat or a pony, and they are not allowed without a permit. I could apparently keep 60 pigeons though.

1

That sounds pretty much the plan (in fantasy, I can't actually afford it!). The biggest issue is that is the heritage overlay, so some things would have to be done quite carefully to be allowed. But I think everything I want is achievable there, it is within walking distance to everything and opposite the botanic gardens. I'm a bit sad I don't have the money ☹️

Sounds like a nice way to relax with the drink you have.

3

I used to be terrible at those tossing type games too, but that all changed once I had kids. I have no idea why, but I have an idea that it's because you spend so much time picking random things up off the floor and tossing them into toy boxes, laundry and waste paper baskets that you just get good at it eventually lol! A wise person once said that a significant portion of parenting involves picking random things up off the floor and I can only agree.

Final Call

Feeling weird and stupid, I sit and stare
Midnight black, immense pit of despair.
No stars, just scars, and painful understanding,
That I am not good enough to be a full human.
My fears designed by own devious mind,
My fears designed to keep me in this bind.
So dumb, I wonder why I can't have nice things;
Of course I sabotage my sanctuaries
With an avalanche of failings.
I'm too much, I'm not enough,
I'm in all the wrong places.
I'm cute, but it's moot,
When I break my safe spaces,
With trying to find a fucking connection.
I'm an idiot a total social rejection
Some kind freak of science project
A monster irredeemable
Broken future irretrievable
I'm done with these feelings of imperfection,
I can't handle any perceived rejection:
Oh really it's only me that I'm rejecting.
Fucked up and projecting,
I'm tired of being a social dumbass,
I'm tired of my chaos and my fuck-ups.
I'll burn down these bridges, I'll fucking do it,
As a last resort,
I'll delete my accounts so I cannot report
On every single one of my stupid fucking
Feelings and thoughts
That I fucking felt and thought.
Like this is my stupid 2011 Tumblr blog
I've done it before, I'll do it again,
I'm toxic, and broken,
Not fit for human consumption.
Not fit for social interactions
No matter how much I want a friend
I'm too fucked up to make the commitment
Because I overdo it as always, it's plain to see.
It's no wonder I'm so desperately, platonically lonely,
I'm only almost human, don't touch me.
I cannot keep being this weirdo on here
And pouring my life out to you forum of peers.
I'm an embarrassment, I cringe at my own reflection
I'm obtuse and have no valued contributions.
You see, this isn't an apology, just a eulogy.
Less about me and more about you.
Less of me and more of you.
These poems will not be my diary entries anymore,
They will be about the comments from the scores
Of people here on this thread.

StudChud is dead.

(Bot001, I am so proud of you).

5

Bullshit. No one is required to be 'perfect' in order to be a good human. The reverse in fact. You are you. Your friends are those who know all about you and still love you. A cliche I know, but it got to be a cliche because it has a LOT of truth in it. You don't need to perform for us. Take this from an old bitch who has been around for a longish time and is far from perfect herself, but has learned to enjoy the busyness of living. The real trick is to ignore comparisons with other people I think. Because they aren't perfect either, and if they are performing perfection then they are lying through their teeth.

The last time I went to a driving range I somehow managed to hit the ball so badly it ricocheted backwards and hit my friend in the ankle. I would advise against doing that.

Nice indoor day for some mining and or crafting, playing with cats and finalising studio setup again and trying to hide as many cables as I can away from the little angel of a kitten. Walk later whem the weather fines up.

If you're still on reddit then there's an Aussie flag on r/place. The funny thing is the kiwis are trying to take it over. Help out if you can. There's also a join lemmy banner and a Bluey.

I'm still using it but I'm not engaging with their reddit events. I'm still mad at them.

It's just art. You get to lay a pixel down every 5 minutes. Make pretty pictures. Aussie flag is above Ireland.
