It explains really well how it developed and how it works and why it is the way it is. And while what you said is kinda right, it's not really right in another way, which is explained in the video.
The sound in a vinyl record is embossed into a V-shaped groove in which the stylus runs. The left channel is embossed on the left side of the V and the right on the tight hand side. Simples.
