Spelling a word wrong because you don't know how to spell it isn't a typo. This person doesn't strike me as an intellectual that knows complex spellings like "afraid"
"Brave the afraid" 100% sounds like something I'd find on a t-shirt here in Japan.
I've had a bit of a time trying to explain the difference between 'scary' and 'afraid' to my wife.
