R/place was special because it wasnt a every year thing, the first one was back in 2018, then they brought it back last year to drum up the numbers for investors, which everyone was cool with since it was 4 years since the last one, and now they do it this year to again drum up numbers and draw people back. What was once a fun community event for the joy of it has visibly become reddits active user metric turbo boost whenever they do anything controversial they'll just wait a month for it yo blow over and have another /place. The fact that Lemmy users are even participating in this to advertise Lemmy.ml is defeating the purpose of sticking it to reddit. Watch mods delete the block before the end of this.
