And thus begins the beginning of the chillo season.

At front is an orange hab , ones at the back are thais. Took under a week to pop which was surprising.

16

Thanks for the reminder, I wanted to give them a go this season and wasn't quite sure when to jump in. I planted Jalapenos last summer that have actually survived winter somewhat, but had almost zero heat. Planning to get something a bit hotter this season

Dammit I've snapped an underwire. Everything was go so well today too. ☹️

you'll have to get it out asap as they can be dangerous

3

If I manage to stab myself we have paramedics on site so I should survive. Do you think I could claim it under workcover as a workplace injury?

4
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

the rough sharp ends will cut through the lining and then start cutting you

1

It's ok, it was getting a bit stabby but the whole thing was off as soon as I got to my car to go home. I don't think I could have pulled the wire out without major bra surgery unfortunately - although if I hadn't been about to go home anyway I probably would have resorted to that.

1
aussie.zone

Ah bugger! I've never actually snapped one, just had that slow extrusion of one side out through a tiny gap, a millimetre at a time until my boob is being uncomfortably prodded.

2

I've had that a few times, and one time the wire just worked it's way out the side so far it was basically an overwire!

@[email protected] Ended up saying happy birthday to SIL. One more forced dinner out for the year (bday) then I don't have to worry about them until xmas :) Which is an awful thing to say.

11

Wise and strong! It seems like that's the best choice to avoid drama as much as possible. I don't think it's awful at all to be relieved that you can avoid dealing with people who've displayed such entitled and childish behaviour. Doesn't matter if they're your own blood relatives even.

4

🙂 are you me

I swear I can't bear eating out with my BIL, he has the manners of an arsehole. I was going to say pig but pigs have manners of their own.

I try not to look.

My dog did something that I've never seen him do before. Waited until the kid got up from the kitchen table to blow her nose, leaped on to the chair, skinny body stretched out, front paws on the table and hoovered the rest of her meal up in seconds. He didn't even stop when I walked in. This is why I have rules about pushing chairs in.

11
aussie.zone

Kid now understands why they need to follow the rule too!

I had a dog that loved walking around on the dining table, so any time a chair wasn't pushed in she would be up there, whether there was any food or not. The other dog I had at the time would just sit on the chair like you'd expect of any invited guest.

The person 2nd to me in my tipping comp has tipped the same as me for the first game today.

I lead by 3 and with that I’ve won my tipping comp! Woo hoo!

10
aussie.zone

Foomptball

I am amazed that you’ve been able to tip anything. I won my tipping comp two years running, but this year I’ve just been a complete mess. It is a mystery

4

I tipped a few upsets earlier in the year due to West Coast suddenly winning games early and Gold Coast winning games at their home but losing all their away games until recently.

2

Also with that said there have been some really bad weeks with tipping and tons of teams losing when they should have won their games.

Been that sort of a season this year.

Sammi woke me at 4:00 for snuggles and purrs. Not exactly complaining, given the circumstances.
She requested breakfast a little later, and after a little trial and error, chicken creamy treats seem to be the way to go.
Still going to take her back for a follow up with the senior vet as soon as I can, but I'm a lot more hopeful than I was yesterday.

10

Sweet Sammi, eating is a good sign!

Edit: you can download these PDFs for free, and do it on Sammi. The Feline Grimace Scale - it should help to tell you if Sammi is currently in pain. https://www.felinegrimacescale.com/

I use that, and TPR (temp, pulse rate, respiratory rate) Temp - use a rectal thermometer, temp shouldn't be above 39c. (Normal range: 37.2c - 39.2c)
Pulse rate - if she lets you, you can feel for the femoral artery underneath their back legs near the groin. Time it for 15secs and multiply by 4. No higher than 200beats per min (normal range: 160-200)
Edit: you can also use your hand under their front left leg, next to their heart if you cannot find the back leg artery
Respiratory rate - watch their breathing, when not purring! Time it over 15 seconds and then multiply by 4, shouldn't be higher than 30 breaths per minute. (Normal range: 15 - 30).

Of any of these are above their max thresholds, then Sammi may be in pain. Obviously she is unwell, but this may be helpful in the future or to anyone else unsure when to take their cat to the vet :)

Edit edit: Grimace scales seem fanciful but are used on lab mice, rats, and rabbits, cats and I believe dogs.

14

The feline grimace scale is amazing. I can tell from my cat’s face and body language when she needs help and follow it up.

She sometimes tries to hide it but when I see those signs they never lie.

Edit: Melbcat also sometimes does a light rapid breathy purr that seems like a pain purr. Sometimes purring can be a self soothing thing during pain or distress

Had donuts cravings this morning that demanded satisfaction. The Paris theme ones really hit the spot, especially the creme brulee 😋 Still riding the high of Miniest winning "Most Creative Costume" award at her parade on Friday. Omg I'm eating out ATM in a busy place and I just sneezed into a napkin in a way that made a seal with my mouth. It came out as an enormous squeak squeal thing and turned everyone's heads. Eek.

9

There he was in a busy place
Shoving his food into his face
When the urge to sneeze suddenly took over
He grabbed a napkin to keep his composure
But a seal he made with his dainty mouth
An uncouth sound, it's all gone south
The cafe turns their heads to him
As he sits in silence with his sin.

that’s the first step to being a casual vacuum cleaner

6

We’ll look on the bright side. At least it didn’t fly back into the face of someone else.

There’s no coming back from that.

There was a Rush cover band playing at Max Watts last night, I wish I could have gone. Usually I'm not one for cover bands but it sounds like these guys play Rush songs exactly the way they did, and they were doing Moving Pictures and the song Hemispheres in full

8
DampSquidreply

I was there! It was pretty great actually. Hemispheres was incredible and the crowd really popped for YYZ. Overall very well done, and some very impressive skills on show.

3

I knew it would be good. Playing some of their songs is impressive enough I'd like to watch anyone do it, not just the original band

2

I have eaten 4 scoops of double choc chip ice cream.

Mother trucker I slept so much last night! Another 10 hours solid? Some unsettling dreams that were an extrapolation of the deeply excruciating arthouse film I watched on Friday (dark lighting, endless rain, depressingly small and crowded concrete living space, and drawn out toilet scenes). I would've loved some sun today but no dice, so it's time to pack up my things and go to uni...

...though I also just want to spend today curled up and blanked out. It's okay. Next weekend. Next weekend I will be able to take a real breather.

I reluctantly turned down an opportunity to catsit for a friend next month because the driving to work/uni/my home (to check in on plants) was gonna be heinous, on top of not having my usual comforts. I do NOT want to burn out again this soon. But... cat.

8
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

You were probably tired if you slept that much. The body has a strange way of making up for sleep eventually.

Maybe for the best if you were going to find it challenging to catsit with all the travel involved.

There’s some sun trying to get through the clouds here.

3

Yeah saw a bit of sun poking through on my way to uni but mostly grey. I definitely think you're right about the tiredness - the mental strain of my studies and all kinds of internal scripts running in the background about whether I'm good enough, memories of past uni experiences, etc and nobody to really talk to about it all (who'd get it), certainly takes a toll.

If you have stuff to do today (I need to go get a haircut and buy a cpl things before new job tmrw) get it done before 2-3pm!! Should be nice weather until big bad storm hits around then

If there is enough rain it could be the first ever game of water football. I'm thinking due to the complexities of kicking a ball while in the water it would be of a sort of mash-up between synchronised swimming and rhythmic gymnastics.

2

Ok. Maybe not rain but possible thunderstorms and it’s 44km winds at the moment.

Game starts at 12:30.

I’m thinking about my tipping for that one.

Doggies will go in with 3 talls. Not sure if it’s going to be marking conditions for them.

2

The blues vs Saints game should be under the roof.

The Doggies Vs GWS one is the one that’s meant to be in typhoon like weather.

Just about to go see what the Ballarat weather forecast is.

You might get what you just described with that one.

7

Free coffees. But medium is the only value for points now, sadly. I'm actually maxed out on points so I really need to start redeeming some stuff.

1

Every single day I have been sorting and clearing out boxes. Today it's getting rid of some sewing supplies I will never use. Maybe some one else can get some use. Yesterday it was a bunch of books, some dvds and some kitchenware I didn't want.

7
aussie.zone

I went to get a chicken burger from Red Rooster. They left me sitting at the drive thru window for ages after I’d ordered at the box. Eventually I saw one of the cooks walk up to the guy who was meant to come and see me, he had my burger in his hand and must have said “can I give this to the drive thru?” or something and the guy said yes so he comes over and hands me the burger, says have a good night and closes the window. Notice that at no point had I paid.

I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been playing too much cowboy video game but I just left with my burger. Peeled out of there like I’d pulled off a heist. So I’m officially an outlaw now. Life is rough on the other side of the law but it sure is excitin’! Yeehaw!

and I ruined the relationship I was in because of emotional impulsivity due to lack of sleep.

pretty sure the guy was a dick and that had nothing to do with anything you did

10

Your partner being tired from working weird shifts is part of a relationship. Your ex sounded like a dick head. That's not on you. I had a few women break up with me when I was studying and being a bouncer, yeah honey I work thu/fri/sat nights and sleep all day. That's the job, what did you expect?

9

Seriously have a sit down and push for shifted hours. Just straight up tell them you cannot work these hours any more, don't elaborate why. You don't owe them answers on that front, but you can suggest alternatives. I'm a hardwired nightowl, i've found that starting 10am onwards tends to be a good compromise

6

Takes two to tango. Please, only accept HALF the blame for the 'relationship' failure. At most. I know this is hard, but thinking that everything is your fault and your fault alone is at best 'magical thinking' and at worst can get very dark indeed. Also, lack of sleep is NOT the sole and only cause of emotional ups and downs. You are a good person, dealing with some issues re scheduling of time and energy. Which are solvable.

I drink too much coffee and have done for years. But I also drink a shit tonne of green and other teas in the probably misguided belief that I'm balancing it out health wise. You get used to it after a while. When I was a barista people used to ask how many coffees I had per day and I had no idea lol.

3

I do drink a lot of coffee normally. Up to 3 or 4 instants on a work day.

On a weekend it’s one brewed moka pot in a large mug. Sometimes two.

Today it’s just 2 instants and fairly early so I should be ok.

Thankfully I don’t suffer from withdrawals.

Market shop great success. I have veg for the week, salami, meat for the week, raspberry tea (love you Polish Shop), dumplings, tortellini and fresh library books.

The guy who runs the Wesh van must really like me. He gave me free mint tea with my lunch

5
aussie.zone

"... dumplings, tortellini... "
In English it's incorrect to list these two like that. Tortellini falls into a subset of 'dumplings', so either don't include it in the list (as you already have by listing dumplings), or specify which other types of dumplings you got as well as the tortellini. 👌

2
aussie.zone

Mmmm, pedantry. 😁

Veal tortellini and chicken and shiitake dumplings, listed separately because my ramen’s going to be very weird if I mix them up

2

The only point I'm actually trying to make is that tortellini is part of the dumpling family. Thank you for confirming 😍

Movie Review. Man with the Golden Gun. 1974 Bond Movie.

So boring I feel insulted. Not even Saruman could save this movie.

Sometimes the only reason to pay some attention to these movies is to see what was the fad at the time, in that movie it was king fu, and the gadgets, which at that time would have been really whiz bang and ahead of their time.

lol, in Live and Let Die 1973, bond had a digital watch, it had a red LED display , a few years before the general public had even heard of digital watches

2 hobbits because fiji is pretty

5

The Hamilton Pulsar P2 2900. Very cool watch but also unusual, in that, Bond traditionally wears Omega or Rolex.

Never realised that Platinum Qantas get shown different flight and pricing options. Was tentatively considering travelling end of year—which I used to—but have avoided like the plague for donkeys. The difference displayed in pricing was 2:1.

I shouldn’t be surprised. I get better treatment on a lower tier by partner airlines internationally compared to flying domestically at home and Qantas planes wouldn’t know what a deep clean was if it hit them on the head.

4

Not for me, sadly. Someone else who looked up the flights who has Platinum, it seemed to display cheaper pricing. Not sure why. They’re able to book flights for two for about the price that I was shown for flights for one.
