Rant warning. Red paint. Everywhere. 🤪

Miniest made a storybook costume for today's parade a couple of nights ago and it looked great. She painted it red with acrylic paint and used her nans drop sheet (Nan's an artist) to protect the floor. All good, it dried beautifully, she put a cartoon face on it and it looked great. While I was at work yesterday Mr P decided it needed second coat of paint. He poured red oil paint all over it (over acrylic) and put no protection down. On the dining table 🤦🏼‍♀️I came home from work to discover tacky wet red paint all over everything (think light switches, toilet lid and seat, pale grey living room curtains, carpet, my mother's table cloth, children, fridge door, walls.. I mean everything). Paint on the little face she'd made. I said, "why didn't you tell him no?" And she said she did but he just did it anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️I said, "this has to come off because it won't dry on time," (it says on the instructions that it takes between a week and 6 months to fully harden) so we spent the rest of the evening sopping all that paint off; it took a whole double length roll of kitchen towel, a roll of toilet paper, most of a box of gloves and several newspapers. Elder Minipeeler was an invaluable asset in this. And it was still a bit wet in places! This morning I opened the dishwasher and discovered that he'd just tossed the paintbrushes he'd used in there on the top rack and turned it on🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Now I have paint on the plastic containers, cups and glasses as well. Miniest wanted me to paint the words Once Upon A Time... on the spine of the book in gold, which I did this morning (it's fast drying gold metallic paint) and the red paint is still a bit wet in places 🤦🏼‍♀️So she's off to school with red painty hands and a very slightly damp in places project, but one she's happy with. I said, "don't stand near a girl with an expensive store bought costume whatever you do!"

I suppose I'll laugh one day.

Did I happen to mention that I'm allergic to mineral turps?

13

I'm sorry. "We" as in you? No no no no no. YOU put your feet up whilst HE unfucks the mess he created. Meanwhile YOU consider not kicking him out of the house.

14

For real, if I'd done something like that I'd seriously be sleeping in the car. With the fishes. While wearing concrete shoes.

12

He honestly believed he was helping, trying to make up for some "slackluster" parenting. His own father was a shit example. Miniest forgives him and thinks it's funny now.

3

This morning he must've hit on the idea to scrape the paint off. I got out of the shower to discover him standing in front of the project with a paint scraper and a ponderous expression. I tersely hustled him out with an "I think you've helped enough" type of statement. Then when I got to work and I was telling my coworkers I could not stop laughing, like almost manic pressure release type 😂

4
aussie.zone

The only possible response is to take his pillow and doona and put them in the dog's kennel (if you have a dog) or in the laundry if you don't. A disaster of this magnitude demands a severe response.

Um, I'm sure he was trying to connect with Miniestpeeler and help her project, but he sure did pick a weird way of doing it. The dishwasher bit was totally unnecessary and I can't think of any sane person who puts dirty paintbrushes in the dishwasher.

11

It had me genuinely gobsmacked for a bit, but he's lucky I'm not a staying angry kind of person. I guess I'm more a problem solver so my focus was on how do I fix the project and how do I fix the paint on everything situation. You're spot on that he was trying to connect with and help Miniest.. he's a 63yo (with a 14yo mentality) with a 10yo daughter and no clues at all.

my precious armadillo if this dude isn't neurodivergent, mentally ill or a major god of sex why the ever loving fuck do you put up with these shenanigans.

Like, His Lordship is three for three and I'd still be putting a foot up his arse here.

11
aussie.zone

It's a combination of the first two I think, lol. Also it is his family home we're living in. There are times I've thought, if the kids weren't so connected to the area and dependent on me, and I had the financial means, I'd be gone. My MIL is leaving it to the children in a trust with me as administrator, as she doesn't trust him to not be stupid somehow and fuck it up. He isn't malicious, which is frustrating, it's like the older he gets the more stupid he gets and I thought people were supposed to get wiser and I don't understand it at all.

6

Has anyone actually tried to get him to see someone for assessment? I know its like pulling teeth (I'm in the process of practically having to bully His Lordship into his formal ADHD paperwork) but that shit definitely DOES get worse as you get older and chances are that none of you have to put up with it - there's stuff you can do

I am currently taking my break away in another team’s work room since I seemingly cant take breaks at my own desk.

Been gifted a Lindt chocolate ball by a kind resident team member.

Shame though that I’ll only have my phone to enter myself but better than nothing.

Going to try and chill quietly and alone today with my coffee.

Things could be tense for awhile since the altercation this morning that I had with my co worker.

Today I'm feeling drained.

Just when you think everything's going well everything comes crashing down and what I thought I had solved and did for yesterday to be all set and completed turned out to be a totalure failure and stress inducing till the moment I went to sleep.

10

I know that feeling and it sucks you're going through that right now. I hope you can get everything sorted

6

I hope things feel better soon friend. Take deep breaths, close your eyes and imagine the weight of it all being lifted from your shoulders.

It will be okay

Sell something for $15 and the guy is busting my balls. I swear if he sends another dumb request I'm going to cancel and give it to the op-shop.

I'm selling through a forum so less of that. More just never ending queries that are all on the website for the item. A lot of "IDK check the official website" responses from me.

Back home - blood tests showed nothing abnormal except for higher thyroid which is unusual in a senior cat. They gave us some fluids and that seems to have helped - when I got her home she went straight for the old food that Zooks hadn't finished and then scarfed down the fresh stuff I gave her three mouthfuls at a time - didn't finish it all but spread over three saucers probably a full saucer. So fingers crossed.

9

Poor Sammi. Hopefully the fluid boost has helped her feel good enough to want to eat.

3

Poor bubby.

Edit: I’m hoping no hyperthyroidism but we’ve been through it and I’m happy to answer any questions

2

Wait, what? Hyperthyroidism usually happens i. Cats older than 12, it's younger that's unusual.

Good news is it's readily controllable with meds. We used to soak Punkin's in a spoon of churu and he just fucking went for it

1

Well that was what she said. I presume she's talking about cats that don't have hyperthyroidism.

1

2 nights ago I noticed some loud rumbling sounds in the kitchen. Was listening to music so thought it was a neighbour dragging heavy furniture.

Today it happened again. But I didn't wear headphones this time.

The culprit?

Our cat attacking the draught stop. She used all her strength to try to rip the thing off, resulting in the door, concrete wall, and the kitchen window 3 meters away to all rumble and rattle loudly.

I used cold brew instead of water in my vanilla manshake and it's not bad! If I post "help help" in about 30 minutes then I'm having a little bit of a heart attack so please send help.

Cold brew is a great addition to smoothies. It's mostly water anyway, so you're still getting that hydration - technically

Dumpling review:
Good flavour - these were pork and ginger. Texture was lacking, but I blame my own cooking. I ended up kind of... Shallow boiling them, draining the water, then putting them pack on with a little butter (I don't really use oil). Let the remaining moisture evaporate as best it could and stirred em around a bit. Finished with soy sauce and la gan mao chilli crisp. Also had broccolini. They came out quite soft and tacky? Still good though.

6
aussie.zone

If you intend on feasting on more dumplings in the coming years get a couple of bamboo steamers like Catfish said.

5

The pork & ginger ones I like to have in soup or on top of ramen. They are softer and tackier than other kinds. I have had trouble fry/steaming them. They do OK steamed only, but are really nice in soup.

Feeling really bad about buying from Amazon but it’s hard to find some things I need without it

5

Don't feel bad. I love Amazon. For so many decades it was so hard to buy specialist or unusual books in Australia. First we had to find out about a book then order at the local book shop, wait a month or so and then pay a ton on money.

Then came amazon and they had the most amazing catalogues and everything was available to Australia for the first time and it was cheap and fast.

Cultures not back yet. One vet was willing to give Melbcat the stronger pain meds but another has decided against it, so the compromise was giving an extra dose of her existing medication.

They’re saying results will probably be in on Tuesday so baby girl will be going the weekend without antibiotics and only pain relief. She’s got fussy and peed on stuff tonight so I gave her the last dose of the strong stuff.

She will no longer eat wet food if it has extra water so maybe I can try some tuna juice or weak allium free broth.

Ok, after an hour's lie down I've recovered a bit and making myself go in to watch the film. I likely won't have the opportunity to watch it anywhere else, and it's good to expand one's horizons and get out of one's head. Especially prior to a holed-up weekend of reading and rewriting (as now my proposal is somewhat different)... Movie Review. Kick-Ass.

Thoughts on an R rating for a movie about violence and force perpetrated and suffered by children.

In real life children can suffer all the same horrors as adults and too often do. I really do think we should put our effort in protecting children from real life violence rather than fictional violence.

And maybe fictional violence can help children understand the world around them better.

I don't like violence, doesn't mean it's good to pretend it doesn't exist.

4

I enjoy violent movies and video games as long as the context is there. Gore and senseless violence for the sake of it doesn't work for me.

Kids know the difference thankfully and are cognisant of real vs fake

In real life, I can't stand seeing people get hurt or hurting others.

Heading to aldi, going to buy some of their dumplings for the first time, amongst other things. Anyone need anything while I'm there?
Edit: anyone know the best way to prepare the dumplings? I don't have a steamer. I was thinking I'd do them in a frying pan with a very shallow layer of water, lid on

4

That's the way. Put a bit of oil in your frying pan, put the dumplings in, when they get a brown bottom put about 1/3 of a cup of water, turn the heat down to a simmer and put the lid on. When the water has evaporated they should be ready.

7

I lightly pan fry with oil (lid off), chuck some water in (lid on) give it a minute or two, lid off for a bit until evaporated and get them a bit crispy.

3

Or… buy a steamer. The brown bottom method doesn’t work for all dumpling types.

3
aussie.zone

Check out the chilled food section - Aldi sometimes has peking duck dumplings. They are yum but very rich.

3

I survived the electricity. I woulld like to thank my rubber soled shoes. I'm not sure if that's a myth but so far still kicking.

Belated Movie and TV Reviews.

**The Kingsman movies. **I like these homages to the Bond movies, the sound, the fast editing, the villains, the cold war, the cross the pond alliance, the costuming are all reminiscent of 60s Bond and the most recent Bond.

And like the Bond movies there is no blood and that bothers me. I know it's for the M rating but it bugs me. That train scene in Argylle should have been a blood bath. Literally 2 cm of blood on the floor and everything else spattered with blood guts and bone.

Also has running gags and scenes across all the movies, which is cool.

3.5 hobbits . -.5 because no blood

**Rings of Power Review by Charlie Hopkinson. **YouTube. Reminded me how much I hated the fucking Hobbits in RoP, especially Lenny Henry. And what they did to the greatest elf warriors is embarrassing, made them look like accountants.

here's Charlie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj2bn1Rvac8

4 real Hobbits.

Taken. Yes, that movie again. Having seen it a few times it's a really good exercise in seeing all the red flags/arsehole behaviour from lennie and her rich git husband that made the daughter disrespect her dad and make unwise choices.

The moral is be good parents, ay, teach respect or your kids will suffer for it.

3.5 hobbits

**The Union. **netflix. Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry

Pretty standard spyfi movie , the latest story lines in spyfi seem to of an organisation within an organisation and the old race to find files of names before the bad guys get it.

But it's really about people taking risks, pushing limits and achieving potential.

3 hobbits.

**Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. **

Loosely based on real events. Fast paced action , quite enjoyable. Nazis are bad guys.

3 hobbits

The first Kingsman movie is actually better than the comic it's based on. There was this weird period where anything Mark Millar wrote just got adapted into a comic regardless of how good it was. It's how we got Kick-ass and Wanted, remember that movie?

3

Am at the vet with Sammi - poor love has been vomiting on and off since yesterday and hasn't eaten more than a mouthful at a time.
Interestingly, she's been a lot calmer coming up since it was just her so I had her beside me on the passenger seat instead of behind me in the back seat like I normally do when I take both of them.
She was calmly sitting in her carrier watching the passing traffic until the practice cat came and now she's sitting up on alert. 😂
