Currently this weekend we are planning on hiking near Shawnee National Forest and spending time with our horses. It's also my first paycheck in a salaried position!

That first paycheck feeling is so nice lol. First of many!

Also going to try and get a little horse time in. It's so hot we have to go early morning, though.

Yeah, right now we are lunging in the morning because it's getting to be hot by noon.

Just unloaded and stacked 120 bales of 2-string in a 103°F heat index. Good times. 😂

We’ll likely just put in 2-3 miles before 9, to keep the girls legged up, then turn them out until afternoon.

Luckily my mare LOVES the water, so she’ll come up to the barn to get hosed off when she’s sweaty. My wife’s horses are both princesses that hate getting wet, so they’re just salty and grumpy.

Happy Friday all. Taking my 12 year old daughter to see Depeche Mode live tomorrow. Very excited!

That's awesome. I hope it's a great show an that you both have a good time. I've been surprised and happy to see may teenage daughter's interest in music take off, and to see so much overlap in our tastes.

I saw that tour coming to Portland, but the tickets were pretty outrageous. I get to see BNL today though, so I'm happy. :)

Just come back, it was great. The arrangement of some of their old tracks were second the none, but the audio was pretty muddled in the stadium unfortunately.

That's pretty cool, what do they sell at the market?

Alright, my plan for the weekend is to do some wood-fired pizza over my charcoal grill and that's about it. Don't think it gets much better than that.

are you planning on using flavored briquettes or do you just use regular charcoal?

Traditionally I've done lump charcoal as the base and then some mesquite wood on top to add some more flavor and a higher heat point.

I do randomly have some basil/oregano briquettes laying around though so I might try that. That's a solid idea

I've never used flavors briquettes but I've seen them popping up more and more. I've wondered how the flavor compares to slow smoked.

So I tried them with fish I was grilling and did notice some of the taste. Of course you're only grilling fish for 15-20 minutes.

I also used them on a big roast I smoked and I swear I got a solid kick of flavor. Just not sure if that was from my dry brine or the briquette

Only way to tell would be to do an unseasoned meat with flavored briquette. The only downside is the result will probably be sad.

2

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I got them from a friend of mine and they've just been hanging out in my charcoal pile so I use them once in awhile. I do think its worth throwing one or two in just for the smell though. It gives off a great smell for the first 10-15 minutes

My wife had her girl's weekend fall through. I'll join her for an inclusive baby shower after I spend an hour roaming an art trail. There's also painting of a room and some yard work to do. My life is good.

3

Sounds great! Probably going to knock out a little bit of yard work too. Accomplishing a couple small things let's me enjoy the laziness more lol

1

Spending the weekend running some cable, unpacking garage, and halfassed-ly working on a presentation I have on Wednesday. Pretty lazy day mostly. Cheers!
