I feel like unless I hear the people involved are the same political party as the politician in trouble and they are against them, nothing ever happens.

Assuming there are little to no third party officials making the calls. Unless you count the supreme court (as they are there for life and no longer have an obligation to align with a party, but have to show gratitude for being appointed by their party)

It would hurt Trump. Some supporters of his will not care.
