is there a way to remove instances
Just curious if there is a way as I've been subscribed to a couple now that just vanished out of nowhere and it's a bit annoying to have dead instances on the switch screen.

You can block instances. That should be at the top of your block page.
Not exactly what I meant I mean a way to remove logins for instances that don't exist anymore.
I haven't tested this, but I noticed a couple times that if I switched to a login and immediately closed the app, that login would disappear and I'd have to log in again with it. Might take some trial and error to get the timing right.
