Had a kid come through my hospital that they did this too. It's insane what we do to our fellow human beings.

You think people are smuggling fentanyl into the US this way? Do you realize how inneficient that would be. Drugs like that are brought in by the truckload not in a 90 count bottle of blood pressure medication.

A look at your profile reveals that you are pursuing a political agenda and are only here to spread right-wing propaganda. One question: Do you actually get paid to do that?

I don't agree with that person, but you're criticizing said person for having opinions and writing about it. They don't owe you writing less, writing left-wing propaganda, or reducing their interest in politics.
You could write "you're an asshole!" and you would be right, but don't take away a person's right to comment stuff on the internet.

-26

I have no problem at all with someone expressing their opinion, even if that opinion is not mine. But this account is less than a day old and posts exclusively pro-Trump content. From this I conclude that it is a fake account run by a think tank or similar. I think it's important to point this out, because organized opinion manipulation with enormous financial resources has nothing to do with free discourse - quite the opposite.

Nope, just a hard working patriot here. I don't understand why it is that anyone who disagrees with the left gets accused of being paid or accused of being a bot

-73
lemmy.world

In case that other reply has too many big words:

We can't believe someone would be so dumb for free

28

Is that so? And what exactly makes you a patriot?

Anyway, to clarify: it's just hard to imagine that there can be people who are so deluded that they would follow the dull whataboutism, all those hateful, irrational and mostly simply false accusations of the MAGA people out of their own conviction - people who are not able to see through that at all. So it's more of a compliment that your account is perceived as a fake account set up to achieve political power interests. Because if it isn't, which I still very much doubt, you can only be one of those useful idiots who are so small-minded that they allow themselfs to be played for cards against their own interests.

17

Because anyone who sees the left in a monolithic way is either seeding propaganda or just mindlessly repeating it.

Invading?... Really?... Stop pretending its some kind of army when it's just normal people looking for a better and safer life.

But if I dont, I might second guess why me and friends play dress up with punisher stickers, combat vests, and guns.

Right..that's why it's mostly military aged men coming

Jesus Fucking Christ, you're an idiot.

Young men are the most likely to be targeted by cartels, more likely to be able to find work, and less likely to have families holding them back.

Think for a second before you vomit Fox News talking points.

It's easy enough to find out if the meds they have isn't fentanyl. If they're routinely using them without dropping dead then they're telling the truth. I don't want to hear "but they might have them disguised among the pills" or some other nonsense.

13

So the fuck what if they are. They're not being put into American prisons or society, the risk of them being fent does not influence anything other than the well-being of themselves and anyone else near them dumb enough to take an unknown substance for free considering they don't have personal belongings in these migrant prisons. It's just unadulterated malice.

Edit: you're not wrong, I just needed to angrily rant with you, people are fucking stupid.

Blanksyreply

Police cant make them ingest the pills to see if they drop dead or not and fentanyl pills are disguised as other pills all the time. And it's not like they're being singled out, anytime you get arrested and have pills on you, it's not like they hold them for you until you're out of jail. You never see them pills again.

-45

How are you so confidently stupid?

Jails absolutely hold on to an arrestees personal items, including medicine, and return them upon release.

10

“We must trow away this box of potentially life saving medication just in case its actually poison and someone may get additionally ill from this specific batch, directly risking your life to potentially delay the overdose of an unnamed drugaddict, that is still going to score elsewhere anyway”

Even the stupidest people i know in my life have the cognitive awareness to smell the stink of that logic.

I have a question. Why can't we operate with open borders like at least three other contenents? (do we count Australia?)

Legit question, why is that not a thing?

16

Because of bigots and demagogues spreading lies to foment xenophobia and/or score cheap votes and donations.

19

No, we do not count Australia. Their border enforcement is brutal, just done on water instead of land.

IMO, open borders are risky because not everyone trying to get through is a poor family or worker. There are a lot of bad actors out there, and you definitely don’t want people like that getting through without resistance. Think drug dealers, human traffickers, other types of organized criminals, including foreign agents. Sadly, the world isn’t just people operating on good will.

0

From what I’ve seen, the foreign border control is the main line of control, that’s why they separate lines into people with EU passports and other passports. It’s the same as moving without border control between US states 🤷‍♀️

2

Yeah, they should be deported with their belongings. Maybe a fine or something, but straight up taking meds is not good

I forgot about the part of the constitution that says breaking a civil law means we should have our life saving medicine thrown out

21

Which criminal law would that be?

Reminder: crossing the border wrong IS only a civil infraction, not a crime.

(b) Improper time or place; civil penalties Any alien who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to enter) the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty of— (1) at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or (2) twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of an alien who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under this subsection. Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.

From 8 U.S. Code § 1325 - Improper entry by alien. Please cite your source if you have it (we know you don’t)

Hey, I got not dog in this fight here, but that's kind of a self-own. 8 U.S.C. § 1325 makes it a crime to unlawfully enter the United States. The US government literally calls it unlawful & a criminal offense for improper entry to the USA.

Source: https://www.justice.gov/archives/jm/criminal-resource-manual-1911-8-usc-1325-unlawful-entry-failure-depart-fleeing-immigration

Bonkers to me that you didn't do 30 seconds of research.

Also, I noticed you left out section (a) which discusses imprisonment for illegal entry to the USA.

-6
socphoenixreply

Except it doesn’t. Section a) only covers lies told to border patrol not the entry by itself. Each section when reading US law is read separately unless specifically stated otherwise.

(a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

"Entering the US at any place other than as designated by immigration officers." is not fleeing or lies. I genuinely don't understand why you keep misrepresenting stuff that's a click away.

Also, why did you reply twice? Forget to change your socks?

-3

Did you not read your own link twice now?

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) amended 8 U.S.C. § 1325 to provide that an alien apprehended while entering or attempting to enter the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty.

Reading comprehension is hard but there you go just the relevant statute amendment that you sent me yourself. Have a nice day!

3

Your own link states:

Section 1325 sets forth criminal offenses relating to (1) improper entry into the United States by an alien, (2) entry into marriage for the purpose of evading immigration laws, and (3) establishing a commercial enterprise for the purpose of evading immigration laws.

So civil penalty without enhancements like fleeing immigration officials.
