I definitely feel different to how I did last week.

I guess, more confident, or maybe sure of myself?

It's not surprising in a way, but I didn't notice what I lost now that I have it back.

15

That's incredibly kind of you Baku ❤️ I really appreciate you saying that. It was getting really fucking hard but you can't give up because what's the other option?

And it's all good about replying to what's been happening for you. It doesn't bring my mood down at all. I just wish you didn't have to deal with this bullshit mate.

2

I think in light of recent events you’re probably super happy and relieved as well.

You’ve been through a lot with the emotional roller coaster and to come out of it on the other side is of great relief.

8

I've been in this job for over 2 years now. Wouldn't say it's better. Cruisey but frustratinging because basic things are made more difficult in the name of 'security'. 1 minute jobs take 5 minutes etc.

I am studying education though, but that's long term.

Sooooo I got the call. It's sounds promising. I won't go into too much details because it's early stages but it is a potential writing collaboration idea I had and they are receptive to the idea.

They're gonna talk to their people and see if and what can be done and we can work from there. I'm hopeful. It's going to be so cool if it comes to fruition.

Get paid, think "hmm that's a bit much", check psyslip, per hour is off. Have had payroll biff it up before, so send a quick heads up "oi you typoed and overpaid" boss says "oh yeah forgot to tell you, your hourly rate went up. So did your super".

On top of the tax cuts that's an extra $200 in my pocket. Marvellous

My sky pretty has a crane

Now let me explain what this crane is doing.

It is building an exclusive 55yo and older community called st. clare in kew. Shit out of luck if you're 54 but the joke is on them because the grand kids will visit and you're back at square 1.

13

Heh I was thinking the same. Just had a look, Giraffe life expectancy is about 25 yrs.. it's going to have to move on before residents move in.

Here's an odd one (to me at least).

P's are going to a funeral tm and everyone has to chip in a $fiddy.

Extremely wealthy family. I've never heard of that before. Is that a thing now?

I understand they're expensive but just never seen that before.

11

Extremely wealthy and they’re insisting people chip in for a funeral? That’s extremely tacky.

I’ve heard of people asking for donations to a charity rather than flowers, but never for the cost of the funeral.

E: it would be tacky even if they weren’t wealthy

8
aussie.zone

P’s are going to a funeral tm and everyone has to chip in a $fiddy.

Why though? For what?

6

What? I gave up going to funerals in the late 90s but have never heard of this.

4

Very odd, I’ve been to a lot of funerals and never have been asked to chip in.

It’s up to the family to organise and decide what to do with the funeral and it’s their responsibility to finance it and everyone’s else role is to pay respects or to celebrate their life.

The only time where I might have to was when they organised a after lunch or something but I didn’t go so no idea if that ended up being split.

4

Me either - sounds dodgy to me. Is the funeral going to be catered??? If so, why???? Usually funeral expenses are covered by the executor of the deceased's Will as a first charge on the estate. The whole "after payment of funeral expenses and just dues and taxes" bit that nearly every Will starts off with.
Sounds like the beneficiaries of the estate want to maximise their slice of the pie to me.

4

yeaaaaaaah nah. Unless its someone I'm super close with I cant see me ever doing that.

4

I love salmon bagels, but for some reason my brain saw this:

I've been informed that it's Vegas' 10th birthday on Saturday! I need to figure out what to get him. Think I'll hit up the butcher but I might have to wait until Saturday to do it so it doesn't spoil the surprise, because he'll smell it. I'll swing by the big pet shop too and see if I can find something he might like.

Edit: Oh it's also my nanna's 98th birthday tomorrow. I don't think she wants anything from the butcher.

Australia should be exporting SPAMB (canned spiced lamb) instead of live sheep. Keep the labour local and remove the argument about third world lack of refrigeration. True globalism would see spambwiches being served in cornish high tea and alaskan cafeterii.

so, I have no feelings about Celine Dion as a singer.... but as a person who can't sleep, I am finding her documentary fascinating and admirable

9

She's incredibly strong. I saw a clip of her seizure and it kills me. Her voice and power is rare and incredible, and for her to slowly lose that is devastating. She's earned her spot amongst the best singers (the trifecta: Whitney, Mariah, Celine).

I still love and listen to her Eurovision entry. It's how she got so big. She sang in french but was competing for Switzerland, as a Canadian. She changed the economy of the LA strip by doing residencies, which bought in massive revenue and made doing residencies viable for other artists again (previously they were usually for those past their music peak). Her philanthropy, her kindness. If anyone doesn't deserve her condition, it's her.

4

Went out, came back unable to unlock my laptop despite typing in correct password. Noticed that some of my keystrokes are not registering.

::: spoiler overthinking overreacting Torn between feeling good and feeling bad. I feel good because next week I start my course and I'm changing my future.

But I feel bad because I feel so far behind. I don't even have $40k of super. I don't have a career. I've burnt my brains out trying and failing at call centre work for 10 years. I still feel like I'm failing. That I have already failed and I'm waiting for it to catch up with me. I can go back and blame the first 28 years of my life but I'm also autonomous. Why haven't I got a high powered career making big money and have a nice nest egg. I've never had enough to even travel to Bali FFS. Idk. I just feel the weight of the past more than ever and I. scared of failing again. It's gonna take me three years to get where I want to be, qualification wise, and I'll be 35. And I have to then find work and start paying my HECS off. I don't feel like I'm ever gonna have a home or feel financially secure.

Alright tough love time: Everyone is running their own race, and everyone started with their own unique handicap so you cant compare anyone elses life to your own.

BUT: If you're not happy with where your at? Fix it. Process the emotions, work through everything then get up dust yourself off and keep going. Sadly no one else is gonna step up and help you out here, so its up to you to live the life you wanna live. Set some goals and make 'em happen. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it would never have been built without starting out and some tough days.

10

Thank you for this. Next week is just me laying the first brick of my own Rome then.

You're the best, Tinybreak 💜

7

I'm ten years older than you and have only worked out careers that I don't like. Hecks is only a problem if you make money. Due to lifelong research I'm an associate professor in being broke and feeling like I have enough. I had a super fun 20s & 30s. I've eaten the double dick of lockdown then hernia for being a massive hermit. Pulled my super out during covid because there's just something about it that I'm sus on, possibly just simple financial iliteracy on my part but gimmie my money. Impermanence, you ultimately cannot rely on anything other than your own mind/thoughts. Once I'm able to work again I'm considering scaffolding and getting back into jiu-jitsu. I've always enjoyed physical work over intellectual. My first degree got wiped out by arduino. I don't like the myotherapy industry in Australia, the way to make money is to run a clinic (rent seeking) not be a therapist. Plus any job I can leave at the job is a bonus. hits vape, pops another endone

6

Better to be working towards a career you will enjoy later in life than to have stayed in a career you hated for the sake of being financially stable earlier in life. Yes, it would have been better if you found what you wanted to do career-wise earlier in life but it doesn’t always work out that way. I think what you’re doing is brave, a lot of people would have stuck to their existing career, too scared to make a change. The money and holidays will come in time!

Why did you put Y on the the spreadsheet I hear you ask? I didn't! When I asked them to produce the working spreadsheet they sent us something totally different that cherry-picked data from the original but missed critical details.

Never actually had a problem though.

Edit: clarification because I had another coffee and am overthinking: it is at Dandenong to be sorted, it will then be sent to your local auspost and assigned a postie to deliver.

I'll have a chat with my aunt about it, she works for auspost. (Apparently posties/couriers can be very emotional and resistant to change lol love her stories)

The whole point about formal minutes of a meeting is JUST EXACTLY THIS. So the participants can't wriggle out of undertakings given and recorded.

Baku, let me introduce you to the ancient and uncivilised practice of writing the minutes of a meeting BEFORE the meeting.

Start with the agenda of the meeting - a bullet point list of items to be discussed. These should be few in number. Ideally less than 6. You might like to send this bullet point list to the regional manager before the meeting so he knows what topics you want to discuss. For example :

  • return/repair/replacement/compensation of stolen/damaged goods
  • living arrangements going forward including repairs to locks etc.
  • what happens if someone else is moved in to your house without consulting you
  • personal safety
  • maybe another item that you consider necessary

These can be in any order - I usually put the most important one at the top but you might like to start with something that the manager can agree with as this can be a useful way to get co-operation on the other items.

Then, (not sending this bit to the manager) expand on each bullet point by adding 3 short paragraphs/sentences describing and/or discussing 1) What if you get everything you want when you want it AND who is responsible for seeing that you get it, 2) If you get something, but not all of what you want and who is responsible for each/what etc, and 3) You don't get anything, and won't get it in the future either.

Print this out (or save on your phone screen) and take to the meeting. As each bullet point is discussed, you strike out whichever of 1) 2) or 3) above that doesn't apply - for each bullet point. At the end, you'll have a list of what was discussed and what was agreed, and who is going to action each item agreed to.

At the end of the meeting you make the person read the document, and sign off on it if at all possible. If you like, give them a copy so that they have a record available too.

This is standard corporate practice, and will do a lot to concentrate their mind on doing things properly.

12

I'm in that club as well. Let him know while it's okay to meet face to face, you'd like to be able to send him an email prior to the meeting with your points laid out and ask that he sends you a follow up email after the meeting with what was discussed. Heck, write him one afterwards with what was discussed and get your advocate to read over it.

7

Seconding Spin. Written or recorded. Don’t trust verbal anything

6

I'd be replying with a polite "I'd prefer to have this conversation in writing thanks".

6

If they push you into a discussion by yourself it’s a good idea to get anything said in writing so they can’t lie and bs later. Do not talk to them on the phone.

Also great to have someone with more power present or bcc’ed in, good idea
