Blahaj zone is getting a new mascot and icon!
Thanks to the lovely Heatherhorns (https://trello.com/b/8dvKmvtc/commissions) we have a new icon! We'll be updating the instance icon soon!
So, with the new fediverse canvas project just around the corner, it's time for our new shonk to represent!

While it's absolutely adorable, I think the old one makes for a better logo.
Maybe it's the lack of contrast but ultimately it's just a gut feeling.

I believe "copyright free" in this case doesn't mean not protected by copyright, but rather that it was missing attribution, so they could not contact the original creator.
Anything you create is automatically protected by copyright, whether you put a "© copygirl" or something to that effect on it or not. To use someone else's work, you either need to get permission from the author directly, or the work has to be available under a license that says you're allowed to (typically comes with some requirements or restrictions). One can also release a work under public domain, but that isn't legally possible in some countries. There's also some exceptions like fair use but that's another thing.

Our best haj, Shonky (they/them) is available now, over at their own Github repository for use when referring to Blåhaj Lemmy.
I'm guessing we'll need them to make an appearance for the Canvas template.
While this defiantly represents the general Blåhaj zone userbase better, our current logo is already pretty good. Id keep the old one but i guess now it's already too late for that. I'm still welcoming our new icon. Hiii! <3
The issue is, the old logo was a copyright free image I found online when we were first getting this instance set up, and it was basically just me here. Since then, I haven't been able to find the original artist, or work out exactly what I was allowed to do with the image. We had this one commissioned though :)

i can't find the exact one right now but i think the old logo is in the same style as boggartowl, the artist of this telegram sticker set. i remember finding it before when i still had tg and i was like "oh hey i know that shark from that lemmy instance i use".
so yeah, probably best y'all got new art...

Just cropped it so that it'd appear larger and less busy detail wise. I don't think most people who already know what a blahaj is would have any trouble descerning the intent of the cropped image instead of the full shork.
