Create a generic cover letter/resume combo file and apply for a bunch of jobs through recruitment companies at the moment. It's the end of the month so they'll all be looking to maximise their commission. Aim for jobs that have been up for close to two weeks as well, they'll be closing soon
Eleven days since I tested, twelve since the symptoms hit. Spoke to the nurse at my practice and she said it's not surprising as I've still got symptoms, and this variant tends to linger, but if I'm still coughing next week give them a call and they'll reevaluate.
I think I'll wear my slippers around the house all the time.
I got the kids some hot wheels cars and one is a stegosaurs. Essentially its a spike trap on wheels. Couple that with their puzzle pieces with little handles on them and there are a few nasty things to step on.
I want to avoid the very dad thing of stepping on one of the kids' toys at an unfortunate moment
Crazy tooth pain tuesday night, saw my dentist yesterday, tooth extracted (2nd one in 2 months but it had to go), today is pretty much pain free with like no soreness in my gums or jaw. I'm glad, but also odd.
This was going to be either a root canal (got quoted 3k for it) or a pull. I opted for the pull as it's instant and about 1/10 of the price.
Interestingly enough, I brush twice a day, floss daily, avoid sugary shit etc. Sometimes it's just genetic unfortunately. I inherited my dad's crappy teeth instead of my mum's.
Plenty of teeth left still :) One day I'll to SE Asia and do a full rebuild. The one that was pulled a few months back was a wisdom, so no real loss there
Partner has hyperdontia, aka Sharkmouth. Genetic and apparently a generation skipper. Losing a bunch of teeth to several violent things turned out cosmetically better?!?!
My wife has that!! She had some removed in her early 20s (jaw was too small) before her wisdom teeth grew in. She got those out about 15 years ago. All up she still has more teeth than me and has had like 6 or 7 removed.
I have never felt pain as bad as tooth pain. Last time I was lying down on the floor at the dentist in tears waiting to see the dentist.
Fucking awful shit.
I can assure you a ruptured ovarian cyst is worse in the instant, but it goes away. As do kidney stones. Dental stuff drags on and on. Much worse than single shot near crits.
There was a kid in the ER last night with the same name as my kid. He had his hand smashed with a brick at school and he was still waiting after we left. Poor little fella was OVER it and just wanted to go to bed, hope he is ok.
My daughter's at Coles and she texts me to ask if I want anything. So I sent a shitload of texts back in a row. Get donuts. Cinnamon donuts. Or whatever. And biscuits. Any biscuits. I don't care which ones. You want your dad to pick you up. Hello.
Considering my usual standard of care the shock from that sort of treatment might be too much for it. Maybe just a wash. Or more realistically maybe I'll get around to brushing the cobwebs off the side mirror ๐คฃ
slept really good the last couple of nights, but had an emotionally draining day yesterday. Only thing that seems to help is music. I feel like I could put my head on a pillow and sleep in 3 second.
Whilst I'm positive about my plans for the future in general I'm a bit apprehensive about moving house too. It's all the little changes, stuff like where the teaspoons are is pretty much muscle memory now, I've been in the same place for 18 years now so the little routines are quite ingrained. Plus I have to get used to sharing space again and all the compromises that entails. All while reassuring a cat and dog who will also be stressed by the transition.
At least by the time everything is sorted out to actually make a move it should be Spring, so I won't have to contend with either freezing cold or boiling hot temperatures.
Plus I have to get used to sharing space again and all the compromises that entails.
Honestly it really comes down to people. The people have made for some of the best times of my life living in sharehouses. But conversely, laying on the couch and finding a condom wrapper you didnt use is NOT fun. Living with teenagers sucks.
I managed to mostly miss the sharehouse situations, other than a year in student residence. The idea of a living in a standard sharehouse fills me with horror. I'm moving in with Mum which will make it a bit different, especially as she is starting to need help so I will over time end up taking over all the work of cooking etc. I've spent many years perfecting my techniques for cooking for one, now I have to cook for two, plus take into account someone else's preferences (and dental challenges). A sharp learning curve awaits - along with a major re-evaluation of my kitchen container collection! Hopefully she retains ability to do some cooking for as long as possible though - even if I have to partially pre-pepare meals in advance the idea of being able to go home after work to dinner underway at least occassionally definitely appeals.
I used to make a standard size family recipe and immediately freeze the extra in individual portions to microwave later. It was great even as a single person.
If you guys have a few meals that suit you both that could work.
(You donโt have to eat the same thing every day, you can add different meals as convenient if thereโs room)
My landlord is actually really good. House is pretty shit but he's a really chill guy. Feel pretty lucky.
I wish I could transport this place about 10kms closer to the city.
thought this (that it's relatively warm) on my walk this morning. I am routinely out by about 5:15: last two days have been absolutely frigid. Today was just standard cool.
I've read that people did this for centuries: went to bed early, woke up for a few hours around midnight and then had a second sleep to the morning.
I don't know whether that's really true, but it certainly matches my personal experience. If I go to sleep early and I'm not completely exhausted, I'll wake up around 11 and be awake for the next 2-3 hours. I am usually up past midnight so this doesn't often come up.
Thankyou! I always thought there was something wrong with my sleep pattern. I get tired early, go to bed, sleep until around midnight, wake up for at least an hour (more commonly 2-3) and then go back to sleep and wake up by 7am. I didn't realise that was normal and ok! This is a revelation to me!
Just cancelled my prime membership. In truth, I haven't been buying enough from Amazon to justify it, but it isn't something I think about all that often.
Then they emailed me last week saying "hey, we'll be introducing ads to Prime on July 1st"
Yeah, nah. I can't justify that. What surprised me though is that it was moderately easy to cancel. I thought cancelling was needlessly complicated and they just got in trouble about that.
so I buy quite a few things through prime (when I can't buy them locally - am subsidising elderly dad's retirement hobby): I have not received a price increase notification...
That's a good point. They didn't word it like that.
We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting July 2, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements.
But also:
We will also offer a new ad free option for an additional A$2.99 per month* that you can sign up for here.
I think I still would have cancelled had they said 'we are increasing the price by $3, but you can stay at the current price and get ads'. But I believe that's how Netflix would have worded it.
Semi related....I heard a random ad on a podcast today saying that a cup of vinegar in the wash is better than fabric softener. I don't use fabric softener, but I don't know where I want to test the vinegar thing....you know, in case the towels come out smelling like vinegar...?
They don't. Add to the rinse water, and the smell is gone by the time the spin cycle has finished. I second this hack - vinegar does wonderful things to hair as a rinse too. Unless your hair is coloured, where a vinegar rinse wouldn't help at all. Mine isn't coloured, so I rinse with a generous tablespoon of vinegar to 1 litre of water after shampooing, and don't need conditioner. At first you notice the smell, but it's gone in 5 minutes. The mild acid neutralises the soap part of washing powder and hair shampoo.
Ooh that gives me hope. I got mine from Harris Scarfe (someone from either here or Reddit recommended getting one from there). I love it because it's so big and cushy and soft ๐ฅฐ
Far out that was a long day. 10 solid hours of work, on green tea only (really not cutting it), plus a lot of faffing around with getting locked in the office building because I stayed so late... It's too early in my job to start pulling long hours. But I'm telling myself it's a once off due to a particular combination of unanticipated things. That, and I want to do half day on Monday for cake related reasons, so it's Strategic. I will NOT let it be a pattern! I have Boundaries.
You know how some days you seem to have really great focus and get all your work done so well you surprise yourself? This is not one of those days. At least there's only about an hour left, then I'm free to go home and hope my lack of focus does not extend to forgetting to put the bins out tonight.
I have had a realisation that todays kids will never experience a life where they are not under constant observation. And itโs probably willingly. Social media, tracking aps on phone from parents, data collected on their preferences for any media they engage with, smart watches that monitor movement and sleep, etc.
At least I hope so. Some Euro countries have already had law cases about excessive underage exposure. But I can see it going the opposite way in the US
I need clarification, but without it, any way I can interpret that as a is very superficial and probably a very unrealistic conception of what "today's kids" need from/experience as life
I mean there are reasons these services are used, like wanting to know how many steps we took, engaging with peers, know where other people are located etc. Not saying itโs all
doom and gloom. Just observing that it used to be that you could go around walking, sleeping, shopping, socialising and watching movies without data being collected for every tiny life detail. Itโs just different, thatโs all. For younger people itโs normal, but for older people it feelsโฆ I dunno, like something has been lost that will never be gotten back.
It depends on the parents. We let our kids go off together a lot more than most parents. They both get themselves to school, and have done so for years. We'll let them go off to the park unsupervised etc. Older kid goes off for a couple of hours at a time on bike/train adventures. Yes, his phone has tracking on it, but he leaves it home a lot and honestly I ever used it the first week to verify it was working.
If it's just the globe (which it probably is), you can do it yourself at any time. Supercheap would have the right fitting globe and there's definitely YT videos on how to do it.
You can probably even do it in the carpark without any tools.
Depending on the car and model of course, but it should be quite straight forward.
Had such a weird interaction today. I've been trying to buy Road Dogs by Elmore Leonard. Book Grocer had it and have had it for ages, I finally took the plunge because I can pick it up from the warehouse when I'm in Melbourne. I put it in my cart, but before I decided to buy it, I did a quick check on google to see if I could get it cheaper anywhere and saw there was a signed copy on ebay. He's one of my favourite writers and it's pretty cheap but coming from the USA and the shipping was more than the book (go figure). I asked the guy if he'd consider shipping with someone else who might be cheaper (instead of ebay global or whatever it's called) and he replied overnight not having a clue how to do that so I figure it's not meant to be.
Go to bookgrocer and Road Dogs is gone. Not available. They must have sold it which is so highly coincidental that it gets sold on the day I finally decide to buy it. But you snooze you lose, right?
So I check on facebook marketplace and some guy in Balaclava has it and is selling it. So I message him today asking if it's available.
He says yes.
I ask how much.
He says $7.
I figure bargain. I asked when is he free, I'll be in Melbourne over the weekend.
He tells me when he's free.
Great. I'll grab the book.
Then he asks where I am coming from.
I tell him Bundoora.
He says it's a bit far.
I said that's fine, I'll have a car.
He says 'but if you factor in time and petrol, it will cost more than shipping which is $10.90.'
I got a bit annoyed because who cares so I said, don't worry, I'll get it elsewhere.
Dude talked himself out of a sale (though I figure he makes a couple of bucks on the shipping so his $7 turns into $10 maybe).
Yeah,I attempted to help a FB friend of friend with an utterly unreasonable budget for their request with other options. Resulted in combo of /r/choosing beggars and serious questions about mental health
Electric heat pump unit. My usage went from $$$ (old gas guzzling unit) to peanuts. Pays itself off very quickly and there was a government rebate for switching.
A mechanic near me can do the replacement work for 30 dollars unless something unusual happens and he takes longer itโll cost more.
Bad news is that after I got home I checked my headlights and the smaller one on the opposite side is not working either.
No idea at the moment how much itโll all cost but this isnโt looking good and thereโs also a chance that all 4 lights need to be replaced.
No idea now but Iโll have to wait till I get paid next week since the costs will likely blow out when I have time off to deal with this but Iโll check with them tomorrow to see what they think and if they have stock of the globes.
I'm craving fancy little chocolates. Like from the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie's beautiful cabinet or Haighs or the like. What's your go to flavour? I'm a sucker for anything passionfruit or strawberry/raspberry.
You got a recipe?.... It feels like one of those dishes that the initial purchase setup would set you back a bit, but then the re-cook is fairly cheap...?
hm. Found an ipad in the middle of a normally VERY busy road, undamaged so I must have just come across it as it went flying off someone's roof (it was near a sharp turn) . No neighbouring houses ping a wifi pickup, anyone know how find my works on these things and if it needs a network connection to work?
Failing that, how to get in without wiping? Just wanna get it on the network, I've taken a photo with it with my number and a note saying CALL TO PICK UP YOUR TABLET since it's gonna sync to cloud
made a long to do list last night , I have pretty much done none of it so far but I did measure the chairs so I know how big to make the new covers
hope the new covers will look cool, they are a patchwork of different tapestry fabrics, just have to match the colours , rust tones with rust, greens , etc etc

I'm so, so, so tired.
I think gym this morning is the reason. It's day 4 of 6am wake up and I think I'm almost normal.
I'm eating dinner, kidnapping the cat and going to bed. Goodnight all โค๏ธ
Keep it up and you might be able to make 6am thr regular time. Push through!

Good aussie tradition that. Burn shit in a drum.

yikes! Not ideal. I had a mate describe a root canal as the worst pain he's ever experienced. Takes his dental hygiene VERY seriously now.

If it's not your up front business teeth, I reckon you can get away with missing a few.
Yeah it was a back one. Apart from a few wisdom ones it's the only one that's been removed.
damn! So do you have to get a replacement? Or can you work with the teeth you have?
Plenty of teeth left still :) One day I'll to SE Asia and do a full rebuild. The one that was pulled a few months back was a wisdom, so no real loss there

Oh joy. Notices of a rent increase and a full day power outage. Must not shoot the Postie.

that could be nasty , hope he doesn't have any bad lasting injury ๐
thats what his dad was trying to encourage him to find out. Kiddo was just cooked and wanted to crash.

I live in mine now. It just automatically goes over the top after I dress.
I just realised I have had my car 18 years. Am I supposed to throw it a big party or something?
Oooo. We should have a joint 18th. Take them down to the servo, fill them up. It'll be an expensive night.
My 40yo car could chaperone.
My 7yo car could sit in the corner playing its Switch and complaining that it wants to go home.
Kick it out of the house and turn the garage/parking space into a pool room.

if you like it? get a cut/polish and maybe a ceramic coat. It'll last longer that way.

slept really good the last couple of nights, but had an emotionally draining day yesterday. Only thing that seems to help is music. I feel like I could put my head on a pillow and sleep in 3 second.

My landlord is actually really good. House is pretty shit but he's a really chill guy. Feel pretty lucky. I wish I could transport this place about 10kms closer to the city.

It's f'ing cold here though. I'd be waiting till it warms up.
Probably warmer than Tassie.
but not as pretty
I've got a crusty nose. I don't know if I've sandpapered skin off or it's dried smeared snot.
Crusty means you're at the arse end of it :)

Do to get my headlight replaced after work or do I save it for the weekend instead?

Do it after work so you can have the weekend to yourself.

I'd need someone to do it for me too. The job isn't as simple as reach in and pull the globe out.
Ah gotcha. Not ideal then.
REALLY depends on the car. My old car was SUCH a PITA that I swore I'd never DIY again each time I had to do it.
My model car is a PITA, I'd need someone to do it for me.
One of those engineering masterpieces that needs the wheel to come off and the liners removed to change the bulb I'm guessing? ๐
That's one way to put it, It's a Mk 1 Honda Jazz.
๐โโ๏ธ ooh I know that feeling. Luckily I have a great mechanic who did it for a 6 pack.
How much driving are you doing in the dark?
Very rarely as I don't go out at night.
Darkest it'd get would be when I leave for work at 7 in the morning. I get home relatively early in day.
Argh, the last thing I need. One of my headlight globes aren't working and I need it replaced :(
Electric heat pump unit. My usage went from $$$ (old gas guzzling unit) to peanuts. Pays itself off very quickly and there was a government rebate for switching.
Just an update again from earlier.
Good news and bad newsโฆ.fuck.
I get a little excited over Bailey's filled chocolate.
laksa is cooking ๐smells delish
You got a recipe?.... It feels like one of those dishes that the initial purchase setup would set you back a bit, but then the re-cook is fairly cheap...?
I'm a pretty lazy cook so it's just packets and stuff, I also add vegies to have more vegies so it's def not a purist recipe
finely chop one onion, lightly fry, add 1 tube gourmet garden lemon grass, 1 tbs green curry paste, 2 tsp garlic, 1 tbsp galangal, 2 tsp coriander, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp turmeric , 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce. Fry some more. Add 1 tin pandaroo coconut cream, 1 vegie stock cube, 1 litre water, 1 packet bean sprouts, 1 packet tofu puffs quartered, 400 g diced chicken, 1 cup green beans. Simmer til cooked. Have with noodles. Sprinkle chopped spring onions on top
Got everything on my list done bar dying my hair. Can do that tomorrow. :)
Folks who use everyday extra with woolies, how does it work with the 10% off? There's an order for instore/online isn't there?
Apple are surprisingly unhelpful with this stuff. I called them about found airpods and they were very "meh" about contacting their own customer.
send an email to the signed in apple ID address? Or just take it to the police station.

made a long to do list last night , I have pretty much done none of it so far but I did measure the chairs so I know how big to make the new covers
hope the new covers will look cool, they are a patchwork of different tapestry fabrics, just have to match the colours , rust tones with rust, greens , etc etc
3 things crossed off , easy but at least I did them
