Oh my god that was dangerous from Ocon, Gasly is absolutely right to be pissed.

Ocon literally did what he did to Perez back at Force India - overtake stupidly and leave no room for his teammate.

I am fairly sure this is the worst race I have ever seen. Might as well have called it 80 formation laps. Jesus.

I think I counted like 5 overtakes that did not involve a crashed car. Ridiculous really. Last week at least there was some hope that one could pull a move. No such hope here

lemm.ee

5 is pretty high for Monaco. I'm sure there have been years with zero on track overtakes before.

Have they?? I can't remember any year with 0. Till lap 50, I was thinking that we may have zero today.

2021 apparently had zero on track overtakes

1

Oh yeah. I completely forgot about that. I guess that the strategic battle between overcutting and undercutting kept me engrossed enough. Also helped by the fact that verstappen was not driving nearly as slowly as people today.

2

There wasn't a single one inside the points, though, so that definitely didn't help

1

Leclerc says he'll bring the car home, proceeds to drive directly to his apartment parking garage.

13

Holy shit Perez's car. Thankfully he's out of the car.

11
lemm.ee

Checo should do a Kimi and go straight onto a yacht to his family lol

11
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

Going by past evidence, it is more likely that he will go to a yacht with people who are not his family \s

7

Ah classic, Alpines bonking into each other. Huge lift off the ground.

8

Haha the F1TV commentary just mentioned the exact same thing.

5

As is tradition! This race needs to go, I get the tradition behind the race, but the cars are just too damn fast and large for this track anymore.

I wonder who’ll take the Overtake award if there are no overtakes. The safety car?

1
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

I believe bottas. He "overtook" 3 cars when the Haas cars and perez went out

2

"Of the four of you, you are the best" - now there's some motivation for you, Piastri.

6

Oh my god now the Alpines! Monaco 70 is quite a mess this far

6

Red flag should be pretty good for the race leaders who started on mediums as they can slap on a set of hards now and likely go to the end of the race on them. Not so good for the Mercedes and Max behind starting on the hards, as they'll have to either stop for mediums later or stick on mediums now but these will likely not last until the end of the race.

Tsunoda and Albon in 8th and 9th just got lapped by Russell and Verstappen in 5th and 6th..

And now Zhou and Sargeant have been lapped twice, I have not seen this in a long time.

4
lemmy.world

Leclerc's engineer kinda made it sound like Sainz was the cause of the red flag.

Leclerc: Is everyone ok?

Engineer: Everyone is fine. Sainz had a puncture.

4
Microwreply
lemm.ee

Wouldnt be surprised if the engineer didnt know the reason for the red flag yet

1

Maybe, but then it would've been a bit hasty to say everyone is ok.

2

The cars are too fucking reliable to give an interesting Monaco race. The fact that there was a 1st lap red flag further diminished any hope of excitement.

4
feddit.nl

Very happy for Charles!

But something needs to happen to this race. As it is now it is a Saturday race with qualifying, the race on Sunday is negligible, boring even.

They need to spray the track with water at a random time to give us wet racing 🤪

3

Well, this is an old school track so how about we honor the old school 'adventures' that made racing so dangerous and exciting?

  1. The water spraying at unknown intervals as you mentioned
  2. Force all the drivers to drink a pint of whiskey and smoke a cigar before they are allowed to enter their cars
  3. Make the guardrails out of bails of hay
  4. Make sure that the runoff areas are running off into the harbour
  5. Mandatory faulty wheel nut, you just do not know which of the four it will be
  6. Helmets made from leather
  7. No visors allowed, just a ray-ban clubmasters

Perhaps if we introduce these rules the race will become more entertaining?

5

Russell taking it super slow with the medium tire. Guess the plan's to take it till the end.

4
LCP

He's finally done it! Well done Leclerc.

Quite surprised to see Russell hold off Verstappen until the end.

4
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

Well Verstappen was off it the entire weekend. I would say this was his worst weekend in the last 4 years. He was atleast hustling the car last year in Singapore, here he looked dead/uninterested.

1
lemm.ee

It says more about the track than it says about Verstappen honestly. You're crazy if you think that Verstappen wouldn't be able to overtake someone with 51 laps of tyre delta if it'd be at all humanly possible.

4
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

No I know that there was no way Verstappen was getting through. But Verstappen never seemed like he was hustling George all over the place. Hell sainz on piastri looked more likely than Verstappen on Russell at the end which considering the tyre advantage that max had is crazy.

1

Yeah that's fair to say. I think the prospect of P5 instead of P6 didn't really get him going. Also considering that there's actually a world where Ferrari or McLaren can be dangerous to the championship, he probably took the safe points instead of trying a risky overtake.

2

Max is surprising slow after catching upto Russell. I thought he would all over his back

3

No why. They will just lap them and continue as normal. No need to pit now as they have all used both compunds

3

Sargeant seems to be dropping like a stone: he has been passed by Botas and Stroll, now Zhou is right in his gearbox...

3
lemm.ee

Will be interesting to see if max can go forward somewhat

3
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

Highly improbable unless there is rain or an appropriately timed safety car.

2
espentanreply
lemmy.world

Well, he already made it up one place, thanks to Sainz's misfortune.

2

How slow can we drive, and still not be passed. That seems to be the question.

3
LCP
lemmy.world

Wow Sainz starting from P3 for restart. Huge for him.

2

Coolcoolcool a second chance to run into Oscar 🙄

edit - some salty ferrari simp has now disliked all comments referencing this lmao

So many on the mediums? We betting on more safety cars?

2

Nah, they're betting on driving slowly, checkmate :D

4

It's races like this that make me question why sprints aren't more popular. Because some fans just don't seem to handle actual racing.

2
lemmy.world

Since Ocon is out this leaves Stroll to spice things up. Here’s hoping for a classic Stroll overtake that takes several cars out of the race!

2

No need to pit. They have already changed to a second compound at the red flag. They are going to the end

5
Pardalreply
lemmy.world

Pit window is around 20 seconds. If you are asking for the lap endurance for the hard tires I’m not sure, but none of them need to change since they already changed tires on the red flag.
