So I know I always call him Mr. Omoikiri but that’s just for ease because he’s my human and he has been for a long time and we always knew we were stuck with each other for forever. But I guess he really is (soon to be) mr. Omoikiri now

::: spoiler spoiler :::

Congratulations 🎉 After the vanilla slice incident he did owe you big time though.

16

hah I'd forgotten about that.

Maybe he's making up for it by proposing.

Congrats!

That's a nice ring there too.

Hope you're both very happy!

7

I was always against the idea of diamonds, but mr Omoikiri thinks we’d best have something we can hawk in case the internet goes down and/or we have a zombie apocalypse and everything goes to shit.

5

FUCK YEAH! Oh that's bloody awesome! Congratulations!

(Also spoilers work on the Jebora app that's great!)

This is the biggest compliment of them all. I always read ‘ladies, make sure you have a manicure in case you get proposed to’ and when I was trying to take a photo of it this morning I thought ‘damn. I really should take better care of my nails/had a manicure’

4

Nice. Imperfections are what makes us human anyway. All the very best for your future wedded bliss.

Thank youuu! We were just saying how dumb and formal 婚約者 sounds actually. Now he’s going around calling me マイ婚約者 like a dummy.

That is exactly the kind of dorky lovable humour I've come to enjoy so much from your postings about the soon to be ハスバンド

The changes I have been making to diet, exercise & no alcohol have been doing me good. In the past I was constantly running out of sick leave, now I have just passed one year without taking a single day. I now understand how people can end up with such high leave balances.

15

In my last 7 years of working, I've probably taken a grand total of 7 sick days.

You have ten days a year. Use them. You're not gonna win a Best At Working award

Oh the man is not well. This is about the 4th cold he's ever had in the 28 years that I've known him. I'm keeping busy prepping because if I go down too the kid will have to look after us and she only knows how to cook 2 minute noodles and scrambled eggs. I did however show her how to use the airfryer. Please pray for us.

Oh noooo fingers and toes crossed for you. Hope you managed to stay away from the germs 🤞🤞🤞

Dodgy property developers on Four Corners tonight. I have laid in a supply of popcorn. Should be fun.

14

Ugh, I need to do something about my weight, wearing office clothes again has me acutely aware of just how much I've gained in the last few years. Just feels so out of my control due to working shift work and often doing shifts up to 12hrs long, I just work, sleep, and eat because I'm miserable about it all.

13
aussie.zone

Bit the bullet and got a med cert through to Wednesday. I still have some unavoidable work things but this will significantly help reduce the timesheet anxiety

You just gotta do what you can do (he says knowing that he's taking a mental health day tomorrow following my psych session in the morning). Here's hoping you're able to get some rest and recovery in over the next couple of days.

4

I don't think I'll get too much today (morning was a writeoff but I'm finally sat in front of the puter to clear the most urgent things so that I can fully switch off the next two days). I really just want to stare into space for a couple of days without that nagging guilt

2

We ate already. Used the new crockery for Korean ramen, mushrooms, bok choy, coriander, crunchy noodles, gyozas, an egg and Kimchi on the side. Little dog is very confused about the time. I promised the kid if she's hungry later we'll have mini pizzas or chips and gravy.

Just returned from hospital. Honestly thought I was having a heart attack last night. So thankful to be back home with my kids again. I think I’ll keep them home from school today and spend the day with them.

13

Oooh goodness, glad you're alright. We've had those kinds of scares in this household before, important to get it properly checked out.

4

My uncle and cousin (from 2 different families -- my paternal uncle via marriage and my maternal cousin) both had heart attacks and it's not fun. They're also both like active-ish, I know my uncle looks like a long bean, he's a massive cyclist. So doesn't matter what active level you are tbh. But I'm glad to hear you're okay, and yes spend time with your kids! Because you never know when you don't see them again.

I have almost reached 50 reviews/ratings on goodreads. That's about how exciting my life is these days.

What are you all excited/happy about recently?

12
aussie.zone

My blog had two viewers today. They were both me using different devices, but it's something.

Also I have a burger planned for dinner tonight. That's pretty exciting.

6

It's pretty much just my holiday photos, with a bit of writing so I can remember where I have been! It's mostly just to record for myself and share with family and friends. I already put a link to my trip in to Melbourne last week, you can have a look if you like. 🙂

4

I read a whole book yesterday! I haven't read a book in ages, it's called Wimmera by Mark Brandi. I used to be the sort of person who'd be reading 6 books at once, even as a child. But after I had a breakdown around 15 years ago I found I no longer had the concentration to read. I'd read the same few pages repeatedly and keep forgetting things, or be unable to grasp it somehow and give up in frustration and befuddled sadness. I found this book very engaging and, due to the places and times of the setting, very familiar also. So I finally read a book again. That was my excitement for the weekend!

1

I’m happy to rest and stay warm tonight.

Not very ambitious though.

Might go charge my headphones and immerse myself in music for a bit later

1

Made stir fry noodles for dinner using Nagi’s all purpose sauce recipe. It worked out very nice. Recently have started listening to audiobooks. This is related because for first time listened whilst making dinner, and I very much liked the combo of the activities.

Some days the HR office has a revolving door and it's a non-stop day of people stepping in. No time for a break. Barely time for hydration and bathroom.

Tomorrow I'm cheering up my manager and I by getting us out of the office to buy some more spicy nuts in our lunch break.

We'll get to make jokes about spicy nuts, get out of the office, and get some tasty snacks.

I see this as a win.

I went on a mini African safari by seeking out all the African animals. Except the gorillas, I feel too ashamed to look at gorilla people that are effectively sentient caged slaves.

The baboons did their baboon stuff, lazing on warm rocks in the sun, grooming, wanking, teasing each other, shoving their bum against the glass windows to give spectators an intimate view. The little bastards would run off laughing.

Lemurs are actually marsupilamis . I always knew this and seeing their hanging nests confirmed it.

Giraffes were sweet. The lions were sleeping in the sun. They have cute tufts of fur under their arms.

Bin chickens, native to Northern Victoria, have taken residence en masse in the crowns of tall palm trees, making messes, skwarking and shredding the vegetation.

So, at the start of the year my regular GP said that I "probably have chronic fatigue" and that it's likely due to my depression. But lately my depression has been okay (anxiety, okay maybe not so much but I've been under far better control all things considered). And yet the feeling has come back of being super tired, headache, with pain at the back of my neck/top of my spine.

Anyway, found someone locally who specialises in chronic fatigue. He's away on holidays as of today though, so it'll be a while before I even set up a chat with him. Still, I'm hoping maybe it can lead to a bit more than a vague diagnosis with no real plan.

yo ho ho a weeding I did go.

(Slowly untangling the horrible fact that all the things I fucking love doing have been tied up in a BIG TIME TRAUMA and now nothing feels like fun it all feels like duty. So on advice I go out and do something and then just drop it and fuck off when it stops being fun. I've been given a sociopath license!!)

11
aussie.zone

I read the first part as "wedding" and thought holy fuck, what kind of wedding would result in the follow up statement. Then I read "weeding" and realised that both statements aren't connected. But if they were, holy fuck, what kind of weeding would result in the follow up statement!?

The advice you received though... that's gold, right there.

7

I like to fuck around and garden and build ridiculous things and generally be an obnoxiously bogan builder. But there's a lot of shit tied up in these things with the forced eviction, having to destroy 16 years of work, then moving and renovating under the gun (which I did most of because I do love His Lordship, but he's all thumbs) so all my stressors got tied up in the fun stuff. So I'm having to relearn the fun of them. It's rather poo.

3

Beautiful day to be outside!

E: was in a rush before and missed the main gist of your comment - hope that the trauma fades and you find joy in the things you love again. I like the ‘drop it til you’re ready’ advice, too

4

fun thing is I can't "drop it" drop it as there's a lot of work that I need to do before this oncoming summer of fuckoff hits to ensure my established plants survive (irrigation, tanks, etc). The stress is not helping, but small progress is still progress - I got the area for the tanks cleared and mapped them out so I can at least put a pissy little standalone link to keep them on life support.

Then I got distracted by the giant reeled hose dying and spent a couple hours trying to repair the ratchet mechanism before ragequitting.

What is the woman yelling about or at? Or is it random and nonsensical?

I wonder if there’s something where you might be able to call the authorities for either some sort of wellness check or for a noise complaint or concern.

Ack. Is that by 20 dollars a year?

2

$20 per month, you sweet summer child lol

::: spoiler Heavy Trigger Warning - CSA/SA I am not a doctor, tho it appears to be some kind of psychosis. She often yells to back off and fuck off and worse, but no one is there. She yells about being raped and assaulted, as a child and adult, both events I have experienced as a child and for 8 years with my ex-partner. It's confronting, triggering, my heart races; I cannot imagine the level of pain she has experiences and the lack of support she has had so far to deal with it. It saddens me deeply, as that could very well be me down there, I just want to fix it for her and take her pain away, but I can't even do that for myself. I have the start of a migraine coming, and I want to throw up. :::

I'll call the non-emergency line in the morning; right now I'm just going to keep crying and listening to music. I'll be fine.

4

Oh I’m so sorry, it’s so sad to hear that you’ve had to go through that horrible experience.

My partner was also subjected to it by her ex and occasionally also gets triggered by certain things even after all the work she had to do to get to where she is now.

Unfortunately I’m not sure there’s much we can do for the poor soul. Even I feel helpless that I was not able to help my partner when she was in need of support at the time thought I had met her long after those events.

You do what you need to do to do but if you need some help or something to distract you or to talk to, you know where to find it.

Is your partner around to give you some support?

Also 20 dollars extra a month is insane.

Typical, I had to escalate my resignation to upper management as my boss hadn't bothered to reply to me. Such a lazy spineless pos. He had sent the letter on to upper management. A simple cc would have been easy. At least I don't have to rely on him to get my separation certificate. Not sure what to do next, I want to have the book thrown at them but I also want to put it all behind me. My best thought is to focus on the future and accept that I had a music and dj career far and beyond most people's dreams. Let the people left there deal with the bullshit themselves.

The dentist is such a mixed concept for me. On the one hand, they come along with their little wizzadry hand tools and save your teeths from falling out, and hopefully save you a little pain. But on the other, as an outside observer the noises those machines make 100% sound like a torture device

Teeth are the weakest link

8

Yeah, I've been paying for my recent neglect in money and pain just recently. Last week was hell, today though felt like it did when I was getting a bunch of tatts, bearable pain. One more session and I'll have saved my teeth from falling out as long as I look after them.

I have just been going through the material for the feedback on the proposed anti-vilification laws.

I find it a bit disturbing that there is so much focus on which groups should be protected. I absolutely agree that we should widen the coverage of the laws, but this feels like an exercise of deciding who is deserving of protection and who is not. This seems likely to both leave gaps in who is protected, but also likely to end up with court cases where the offender argues that their behaviour was legal because they hate someone for an allowable reason. Some awful variation of "I don't hate gay people, I just hate rainbows".

I am definitely in favour of this over what we have now, but it does feel like starting with a list of groups deserving of protection is a terrible way to make a law.

8

I think they've covered a lot of marginalised groups which weren't previously. I agree though they should just outlaw vilification based on any percieved difference. Oh and make the spread of information which could cause others to vilify a crime as well. Freedom of speech like every other right has to be balanced with responsibility with not using it to cause other's pain.

So I finally got off my butt to get a hideous photo of myself for my passport renewal of which I had to pay handsomely for a rapid renewal, and… my mug was too big.

So I had to pay for an AusPost mugshot. Like, truly, a mugshot. The only thing missing was an orange jumpsuit.

If I didn’t like photos before, now I truly detest them. 😂

8
aussie.zone

Rapid renewal is a fraud.

I did normal and got mine in business 5 days. The lady doing the mugshot (mines not great either heh) / renewal for me was very naughty in trying to upsell the express imo.

Yeah, I didn’t know I could pick it up on Wednesday until after I paid, meaning I could have brought a resized photo. Unfortunately, I had to be sure I’d get a renewal due to flying out in a fortnight.

I'm starting to get alarmed by how desperately I need my coffee to function.

I think I need to have a day off where I just don't have any caffeine at all and writhe around like a junkie in the throes of withdrawal.

7

I skipped having a coffee on Saturday morning, but had one after dinner. Day was fine.

Yesterday skipped coffee altogether with no ill side effects.

And I'm a frigging coffee junkie most of the time.

And of course I had trouble falling asleep last night.

Stupid body

6
sh.itjust.works

Interestingly I've always found that caffeine doesn't do a whole lot to me. If I'm tired, I'm still just as tired afterwards. I only really drink it for the taste

5

Coffee makes me both buzzy wired and sleepy at the same time. It’s unpleasant so avoided mostly.

3
aussie.zone

Problem is that it takes more than one day. More like a week +. One day off will just be one day pain with no gain

4
aussie.zone

I've found in the past that one to two days actually does help me reset (I just spend most of it sleeping) - I don't actually have that much coffee compared to most people, only one cup a day and always before 12 - but I wouldn't mind trying a whole week. I'd need a med cert though lol.

3

Fair enough. About ten years ago I tried going cold turkey when I was averaging i guess around 10-15 standard cups a day... First three days were brutal headaches and agitation etc. Then the next 2 weeks was constant brain fog. I couldn't work. Couldn't hold a train of thought. Gave up the attempt when I still couldn't work after those two weeks. Helped me dramatically reduce how much I was consuming at least.

3

I think I relative get off lightly and don't get any adverse effects if I stop drinking coffee.

I can definitely get buzzed with a coffee high if it's really strong and fresh as opposed to instant coffee but I've never had withdrawal effects touch wood

2

Oh no!

Regarding domestication, there was an anime I loved as a kid called Bobo-bo Bobobo and one scene they are eating Natto, but obviously western audiences aren't going to know what Natto is. So in the English dub they call it like "spiderwebs and beans".

I just sent an email today asking when the pre fill information for our tax returns will be available.

They sorted out the mess within hours and then the ATO flagged it as ready on my pre fill data check.

Might be worth asking?

I need to slow down. I've eaten about a third of a bucket of rice noodles. Not a mini bucket. A regular sized bucket.

6
aussie.zone

Lol I want to make it clear it didn't come in a bucket. I'm just using that as a measurement unit to express how much has been consumed. So no pics because it's yummy yummy in my tummy now :) :(

Aww you had me all excited for a second there thinking there’s this new thing I hadn’t tried. Wow, why would you break my foodie heart 😩😭😛

Kidcalhoon2 is pretty keen to give skating a go after they had a session on a board I found in hard rubbish. I'm not a skater in any way, any tips on the type of board I could get them? I guess they just want to cruise, turn a bit, and maybe have a shot at the local skate park....

aussie.zone

Go to a real skate shop because the people working there know what they are talking about and can hook you up.

With research you should be able to find a complete 7.25” no name/blank setup under $100.00 on sale.

The biggest hurdle while you are there? Your child will see an awesome looking deck design and they are going to want that one. but it’s too big and expensive brand name haha.

2

Yeah right on. Was just thinking of going to Kmart actually, but quick check and both Goliath and Hemley have complete entry boards for about $100.

Last week I boiled and somewhat successfully peeled 8 eggs for the week of eating, this week I almost destroyed two whole eggs with my peeling techniques. I don't think it's the longer finger nails but maybe it is?? Hahaha

5
aussie.zone

Haha you are right. It turns out the eggs were not cooked enough, so I cooked them longer and am about to go back in.

There must be a youtube simple solution to peeling eggs. I crack the top and bottom and roll which loosens the shell, but it's still a fiddly picky job. That was taught to me by my son's great grand mother.

2
aussie.zone

I will bang on this drum forever but try steaming whole eggs. They're much easier to peel and taste exactly the same as boiled eggs

So follow on from the previous car rental post, now looking between GoGet (higher cost but seems better reputation) and Popcar (smaller and lower cost, has some positive reviews but a bit bare/lower on recent reviews). Both have cars near me.

Dropped Uber Carshare because of the ethics, and Flexicar (applied then withdrew) because the app store app is full of negative reviews, like 1 star lol.

Locked in $165 fuel this morning. Price must have gone up shortly after.

Ended up saving $17 on a tank tonight 😳

4

Locked in $164.9, good reminder! I was seeing $209.9 at several stations driving to work today.

Can I have a whole bunch of your best vegetables to make up for Rusty depleting your protein stores?

And a fruit salad. Just DO NOT PUT BANANA IN THE FRUIT SALAD.

I wish to at least state that your banana description is an insult to my sensibilities and has reactivated some dark, repressed memories and I shall go and dry retch in the corner again oh god no not the banana smeared against the papaya NO

do you have something against smooshy banananas? Smooshy bananas smooshed to smooshiness?

(please let me know when this stops being funny)

2

I don't even mind smooshy bananas. They get smooshed in my mouth. I'll even have them in smoothies; But they should not be smooshed against other intact fruit like some skid mark 😤

(it's okay it's not an actual Genuinely Traumatic Thing)

Too early for a Seinfeld quote? 😅

A good high protein breakfast today I think. I'll have 4 eggs, 2 sausages, 3 rashers of bacon, 1 t-bone steak, a chicken drumstick and a whole baked flounder thanks. Plus one battery for the bot please.

I just did my tax and holy shit they weren't kidding about getting less back this year. I really really need to get myself an accountant/financial advisor who can help me finesse my money so I can pay less tax. It's friggin insane. I'm all for paying a fair share but I feel like I'm paying my share and maybe someone else's too.

Edit: just updated my income/tax spreadsheet and found that even though the amount of tax I'm paying is obscene, the % of my income paid in tax is actually pretty consistent, even marginally down from the previous 3 years. Still hurts but this puts it into perspective.

::: spoiler image is of a chart of my % Tax Paid for the last 14 years :::

4

Yeah but mate we’ve all gotta pay for poor Gina and Clive! The poor multimillion dollar bastards can’t afford to pay their fair share!

Also don’t forget, we gotta slash the NDIS!

6

I got 18k back last year due to a workplace fuckup (they forgot to put in the low income threshold) so I'm already expecting a significantly smaller return lol. My accountant loves me though, i literally give them a fat record of every hour worked from home to calculate claims against

1

With the scrapping of the low and middle income tax offset, stage 3 cuts are needed.

However I do disagree with the timing. Implementing them while inflation is high is just going to make it worse.

It's making my roses sprout out of season. Urgh, I haven't gotten off my ass to mulch and feed yet.

3

Half off my roses popped off too in the string of warmer weather we had in Melbourne! Meant to maintain them this month while dormant 🙃

4

FUCK you, duolingo, you don't get to ding me for using mangi over mangiate translating 'you eat the grapes' you don't get to fucking do that

4

Oh, interesting. Today, one of the neighbours shows a region that isn’t universally recognised as independent in grey.

4

My cat is very confused by the new schedule and just screams at me for the first 10 minutes of me being home. He does have my housemate and their cat but I do worry about separation anxiety after me being home all the time for the past few years.

I feel like the reason why Beyonce is so 'big' is just because people say she is. Am I misreading that?

3

That's just more people saying she is though, isn't it? I don't really take much notice of awards like that. Someone told me to listen to her newest album I think a year or so back and I really didn't think anything of it. From memory it was just her singing about how great she was and nothing special. I know she's had some huge hits in the past though. I dunno.. I just always thought people spoke about her like some shining golden goddess and I never saw her being at that level.
