I was honestly surprised to see one on the road while I was there - I legitimately thought it was being driven illegally, but guess not! I haven't seen them in any other coastal towns which is odd.

They can be registered as Neighborhood Electric Vehicles in California. Must be electric and max speed is 30 mph.

I can only recall seeing one many years ago.

Now it's clear why they are not seen often. Niche product for a niche audience with special rules. Still cool. I'll have to rent one next time I'm in a qualifying beach town community.
