Can anyone recommend a lightweight, stable distro for a thinkpad?

I'm looking to mainly use it for school and was wondering if there's any recommended distros out there for thinkpads.
Its a Lenovo Thinkpad T480.
Debian with LXQt. Although your laptop would run Debian with Gnome or KDE fine, too. Xfce is a compromise between those options but the way LXQt works and looks now, I don't really see the point of Xfce anymore.
