One of the greatest compliments I ever got was from a Drill Sergeant at the end of basic training after we lost a dozen asshole recruits for half a dozen asshole reasons over the course of it.
He came up to me at the ceremony and said "Private, I don't know your name" with an affirmative nod.
To which I simply replied "Thank you Drill Sergeant!"
Guess you kept it Private huh...
