Eurovision 2024 Semi-final 2 thread
As there has been some interest in a live thread such as the ones on r/eurovision, here is the live thread for the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Sadly, I didn’t find any Lemmy equivalent to https://reddit-stream.com/. But as this community is still pretty small, I think refreshing the website once after each song should be okay.

This is my first time hearing Armenia’s entry and I am really digging it. I love folk music especially when modernized.
Dude Armenias so good this year. Her energy is fantastic!
Same here, definitely the biggest positive surprise so far
But why are they named after a car?
Same reason as Pantera?
Ah yes, the Witcher combat music entry.
Belgium, dude no wonder I can never find a decently priced mic any longer you bought them all.

The true winner of last year's ESC.
San Marino’s show is wild AF!
And somhow didn't qualify for the final.
They were robbed for sure.
Yes; such a positive surprise (for me) :D. Singlehandedly improved the song so much on my rating
Talking about German fans and showing a group with a Belgian flag. Nailed it!
Did you see the dude with the Austrian flag and Ireland hat?
Why does it feel like every song I really love has performances that are a bit less than what I hoped for and every song I didn't like that much has so much better performances than I expected?! xD
I went in expecting Joost to be my #1 today and came home with Armenia instead.
Honestly surprised at the lack of boos for Israel
They have anti boo filters.
But if there's enough booing it gets through. That it did means there was a decent amount.
Also apparently in the practice round there was a bunch of booing.
Edit: apparently EBU also added fake cheering during Israel's performance. So much for EBU being "non-political". It's one thing to remove disruptive sounds but another to artificially hype up a song.
Really hope they don't make the final and spoil it
They made it to the final. Would've rather seen San Marino there. But maybe now Germany has a chance of not being last.
While hoping for 0 points for Israel, I'm not sure anymore seeing Italy's televoting.
Holy crap, almost 40%, it wasn't even good. I suppose they were pissed at San Marino for choosing a spanish group.
That's like something out of dystopian sci fi! Who would have thought that Eurovision would build the Torment Nexus? 😮💨🤬
Damn Switzerland really fucking slayed huh
Did you listen to the lyrics? It's a 100% win. Well done, Switzerland, you know how the game is played!
The last piece is from Windows95man - European Thong Contest indeed.
Spain has entered the chat. (Unsure if that is what you are referring to, I am at work and catching it between customers, plus I am in the states and likely seeing it behind EU)
My comment referred to the moderation part before. They showed 'esc merch' for fans - a t-shirt, a hat and a thong :D
GÅTE is the crossover [email protected] has been waiting for!
Anyone know what the violin keytar is called? And those pants the guitarist was wearing are excellent.
ETA: it is ![email protected]

I tried to get the link to work for a while and just gave up

Oh no not the Instagram Live filter 😭
Anyone else expecting Apophis to come through Israel’s Stargate?
I feel like I'm much more critical today than in the first semi finale as today, most of my favourites sing which I have high hopes for while at semi finale 1 many songs were only in my mid range and I got completely surprised by their high quality on stage :/
Yeah, I'm with you. I found the first semifinal much stronger so far.
Well… I'm happy for the artists that they got through. While I was very happy with the first semi final, I'm rather mixed with this one. 3 of the 10 qualifiers are from my worst tier 😅
Same. In fact, 3 of the qualifiers WERE my worst tier under everyone else!
How the fuck did Latvia qualify?
Staging was one of the worst if not the worst, but vocally he was one of the best. Guess that still matters for some.
Very hyped for Angelina Mango - she's been sounding better and better in every preparty.
Edit: I hope they change the sound mixing in the finale. Her voice is disappearing a bit too much in the drumbeat.
I always enjoy browsing Xitter(formerly known as muskless) during eurovision, but all I'm seeing is posts about people calling hate on Israel antisemitic and people defending Israel's actions using whataboutism. I know I shouldn't expect anything else from xitter, but I'm still appalled. They defend annihilating an entire country for what a certain group in said country did.
By giving voting money to a song contest, and bragging on social media, I guess.
What I love about Eurovision: there's always a weird, funny, silly entry from either the eastern countries or the northern ones, and on some years you get more than one. This is a good year for that. So thank you Netherlands, Finland, Estonia and all the others that make me laugh out loud.
Just on song 11. And semi final 1 seems much higher quality. Hard to see anyone beating Croatia, but Spain and Malta both stand outs so far tonight so far
These interchangeable long-haired women in skimpy outfits with the dance style of rhythmic pelvic floor gymnastics are a bit boring...
I prefer fun performances and hope that these artists do well.
Aaaand here comes Estonia for that. I had only seen a little of their song. Love how they have the crowd chanting, the traditional instruments, the on-stage beefing. Good show.
Eesti <3
Interesting that you see it that way.
My now (with performance) - favourites are mostly from this semi final. In the first one, I had a pretty clear hierarchy, with a few songs I really liked, many I liked and some I didn't like that much. While here about half the songs were in a similar spot for me and I liked them all pretty much, but didn't really like the rest.
2nd half a clear improvement imo. Sadly missing the final live this year
They actually mentioned Ralf Siegel - I'm speechless.😵
Well, the final proof of Eurovision being rigged (other than last year's jury vote making Sweden win) is Israel making it in.
I'm boycotting the Finals.
In 2014, Russia got 7th place, after attacking Crimea. The contest is not "rigged". Many people vote primarily based on the music, no matter how you judge that. And in case of Israel, I also assume there are people voting specifically for them.
Funny you should mention Russia while pretending that it's NOT rigged..
Russia and Belarus are both deservedly banned due to the actions of their fascist governments, but the fascist apartheid regime of Israel is behaving at least as atrociously and not only are they allowed to participate, but they were portrayed as less unpopular than they are by adding anti-boo filters and fake applause!
Guess it's only a matter of time before more US/EU allied countries with zero respect for the human rights of minorities get added to the competition and mollycoddled like Netanyahu's representatives are.
Considering there's absolutely no transparency in the voting process, I have a hard time believing it's not rigged.
Even the invasion of Crimea wasn't an attempt at genocide.
And it wasn't even that a good a song compared to some of the others that didn't get in.
People often reeeeally overestimate the representativeness of their own bubble. As a reality check, I just looked on the Youtube live comments and searched for Israel and basically all of them are positive:
Of course this can be due to the chat being moderated and some things being deleted (although there were also Free Palestine comments), but saying that there are no fans of that song / entry is just wrong.
Those are heavily moderated to be pro Israel. So is r/Eurovision.
