I got this perch in a small lake/pond off the shore, using a bobber and putting the shrimp down about 2.5 feet, with a medium sized hook around 7 pm. I was more trying to get a catfish, I didn't even know there was perch in this lake.
I caught two nice perch yesterday on a kayak trip, but not quite as big as that one.
Try using a slightly smaller hook and bait piece and you'll likely pick up more perch in the same location, but smaller. In my experience they often tend to be a strongly schooling fish, meaning where there's one, there's often ten or more!
