That's a hard question.... 300blk is better than 5.56 (considering barrel length) IMO for the likely ranges id engage human targets in(likely close range, and hope to never find out). 8.6blk is my dear hunting round hands down. Where I'm at deer are 50-150 yards. 8.6blk is quiet and hits hard.

So 300blk for self defense.. 8.6blk for hunting.
I really like the idea of 8.6 for hunting. Pragmatically most NA game is shot within 200 yards. So why not focus on performance in that range?
I've got a DT MDRx and hope they produce an 8.6 barrel for that soon. I heard that it's on their radar because of the number of requests for it.
Shit, I've never even heard of 8.6.
