The program I was using stopped working when there was a Lemmy upgrade. I don't really have the knowledge to fix it, unfortunately. I intended to put in some time to try and work out a solution again but now have some real life issues going on which mean I just don't have the time at the moment.

I've figured out my next audiobook now that I've finished World War Z.
I'm going to try and work my way through Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. There's like 41 of them though and figuring out a reading order is pretty complicated. Peoples "guides" online are more suggestions than guides. One thing everyone agrees on though, even apparently Mr. Pratchett himself, is not to start at the beginning.
I've started with book #4, Mort. Which is the first in the "Death" sub-series. Like I said, it's complicated.
Also I found a site with a torrent of aaaaaall of the audiobooks which makes me very happy.
I hope you love them all. The Witches series was my favourite, my toddler is starting small, with "Where's my Cow?", but it's just as good as the rest of them.
Shout out to the homeless bloke screaming at me on my way to the station this morning. Just a great way to start the morning. Also love that after having a go at me for what ever imagined sin he calls out "help me" after I've walked off and ignored him. Yeaaaaah, not gonna do that dude. My empathy extends as far as not taking your crutch off you and belting you over the head with it.
I have great sympathy for people who live on the streets, it's very traumatic and they end up with ptsd very quickly

Before I moved to downtown Detroit I had a plan for interacting with the homeless people. It was intense there.
If I had time I would listen to their story. Every homeless person or beggar got a dollar or two. If there was a problem I would try to help them out. Anyone sleeping on a warm grill on the sidewalk got some money. Anyone going through a garbage can got money.
Con artists from the suburbs got nothing

We never had a problem downtown. Husband's colleagues would get harassed, but not him.
By the time I moved city locals were calling me sister.

HEATHEN! A shepherd's pie is made from lamb. Beef makes cottage pie. Identical in almost every respect, but for the beast of origin. Mince is allowable nowadays, but for both sorts really should be (and in MY household still is) made with slices of leftover sunday roast and leftover roasted veg, all moistened with leftover gravy and the leftover roasted spuds roughly crushed to make the top. There is no dish better than that. Try it. I dare you.
Ok, calculate how many veg & spuds you need to feed the male teenagers and selves, then double the quantity to cook with the roast. When the veg come out of the oven, put the extras in a separate pot with a sticky note with the skull and crossbones drawn on it, which is the signal that if said teenagers eat them, then there will be Blood For Breakfast. Their Blood. Works most of the time. The skull & crossbones sticky note is very effective, except for chocolate cake.

I was feeling adventurous today so I purchased a flat white instead of my usual cappuccino and I'm disappointed. I'm not sure if coffee even went in there.
So my question is: Is a flat white just another name for a deflated latte because I'm struggling to taste any coffee in there?

Unless you ask for a strong or double shot, you'll get a single shot in a coffee. For a strong tasting one, you can ask for a long black with a dash of milk.

I also like finding smaller YT channels (100k subs rather than 2mil subs) in niches that are interesting. There's a channel called Ants Canada thats made like a weekly serial about his HUGE terrarium ecosystem: he has a few different species of ants, mantis', lizards, spiders, crickets, etc and does introductions or culls (culls as in he accidently put in some vegetation that had fire ants and had to figure out how to get them out before they fucked the other animals). Anyway! It's good!

I smashed through 3 body problem, loved it. I tried the audiobook a year or so ago and it was far too dense, had to give up quite early. I think it is translated from Mandarin too so it can seem a bit clunky. The tv series I find a lot of fun though. I don't think you need to pay toooo close attention, just enjoy the ominous spooky vibe!
I don't mind janky translations, should read what they did to Vampire Hunter D after the first two books. Man, that was a jank-ass translation. (I'm pretty sure it was VHD, but it was some Japanese anime novel (not a manga) I grabbed from the library 20 years ago haha.
My partner found a streaming site, so I don't need to sub, I may put that on my other screen today while I colonise Mars haha

Tangent: LOTR is the exception imo, Peter Jackson and crew did a great job in adapting a fictional history tome into a movie. Getting rid of Tom Bombadil was a good move, despite him being so cool in the book.

I think what's out is it for now, not sure if they'll do a second season.
But the show is based on the first book for the trilogy Remembrance of Earth's Past (the books in order are The Three Body Problem, The Dark Forest, and Death's End). I think they were released in China around 2008 onwards, and translated to English early 2010s. Critical of China surveillance and control, but hard sci-fi. That's about all I know besides some plot points here and there picked up from the internet.
Having a nice lazy start to the morning. Have a GP appointment shortly and currently sitting in a cafe nearby waiting for a bagel and coffee before I slowly head into to work for a short day

My thinking behind it is that a strong coffee + warm milk = strong smooth coffee. Apparently not.

What you are looking for is called a "Long Mac topped up" in Perth. It's basically a Flat White with an extra shot of espresso in it.

The 3 Body Problem trilogy books are far superior to the show. Recommended reading for any sci-fi enjoyer.
