(On a more serious note, if this is happening to you then you're not following the instructions to clean the device and replace the filter once a month.)

Yeah, because I'm doing it more frequently. I think it's the design of this particular one. I've seen other comments say the same thing (on a video about how to clean it thoroughly, disassembling pump and everything).

Indirectly through curtains, but yes. Unfortunately (for this specific case) that's basically unavoidable in my apartment.

If water is in the bowl it'll only drink if it's moving, but if it's anywhere else than it can be dirty

Bonus points for toilet water, and water from my foot bath when I go into the other room.
