Further update for anyone who saw my previous posts:
I haven't gotten the message telling me I've been accepted, but my payment in my Centrelink online account has swapped to Disability Support Pension. This is such a huge load off my shoulders. I finally made it.
Payment schedule is odd, my "last payment" listed says 13th of July, but I received my $33 telephone allowance just after midnight tonight, which is odd since that was meant to arrive tomorrow. My first listed payment(the 13th of July "last payment" one) also has reduced pension payment but 3x the rent assistance and pension supplement on it. Very weird.
Still have to wait on Centrelink's letter to see if I have any mutual obligations, but I'm so happy. I think I'll get some backpay to my claim date, but some people have said online that they only backpay if the claim took over 6 months, or had to be appealed. So I'm not sure. Still. Happy.
While I was on the Disability Support Pension I only had to apply for 12 jobs which was nice. I still had to go in to so my provider and such, but they were nice enough where if I say "I can't, I am in a lot of pain" she'd be like "okay I'll reschedule". But I still wish I could've just had phone call appointments... sigh.
But this is very exciting for you! It felt so good when I got my backpay back in early 2020.
I just got an email from my supervisor saying that my thesis is almost there. About one more week of concentrated effort and then it’ll be done. Then I’ll have my final month to just proofread, check the citations, format and do all the frontmatter nonsense. I’m so happy I could cry.
dude, life post thesis is amazing. its not like you earn any more money or anything, but just NOT THINKING ABOUT YOUR THESIS is amazing. youre so close!
I’m already fantasising about all the things I’m going to do with all the time I’ll have once my life is no longer filled with existential dread. Mostly I just want to sleep and close all the fucking Taylor & Francis tabs that are open on my web browser constantly 😭
I have enjoyed the entire process and I love my research but I am just very much not having a good time at the moment. And from what all my colleagues tell me, when you start feeling like you want to die, that’s how you know you’ve entered the end game with it.
While the daily thread is awesome, has anyone noticed how the rest of Lemmy feels like reddit years ago? Way less anger and arguments about who is technically correct etc… It’s just more fun.
I browsed popular on reddit today and suddenly loads of them are rateme or amiugly etc… that were never in that feed full of incel neck beard reply’s. I like it here :)
Some of us remember when Reddit was a lot like this. Smaller, a bit more techie, lots more laid back than it is today.
I'm also a little scared that this will end up like Reddit. Not totally scared, because there's no single company trying to maximise your engagement with rage bait and dopamine. But a little scared what 100 million users would bring.
Competed in another marathon axe throwing tournament on Sunday. The level of competition was crazy, 12 out of 19 people hitting the max score throughout the day, i hit it 6 times, the top guy hit it 12 times. Finished the round robin in 3rd and then after an incredibly tough finals came home with 3rd place. Everything is really coming together, i have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the last 3 major comps ive entered and its all great practice for Sydney in September :)
heeeeyyyy nice to see you here. congrats on the results: ive been to maniax a few times this year mostly for friends' birthdays etc, and its actually pretty hard to improve, so nice one!
I've arrived at my cousins place out west that I'm catsitting at for the next month. It's one of those soulless rabbit warren new estates but the house itself is actually really nice (they supervised the build and did a lot of rectifications) Cat is fairly happy with her own company but still appreciates a human to dish out the wet food..
Despite a second physio visit my neck and shoulders are still feeling awful. Flat out of money until i get paid tomorrow night, but on top of buying me groceries of my exact favourite brands and leaving the house in a very clean and cozy state, my cousin and partner have very generously left a $500 gift card. What a lovely feeling. Going to use that on a massage this weekend. I'm disgustingly exhausted ...
Day 18 of exercise program and day 3 of 10 day tummy challenge completed. I'm already feeling like I can walk a little straighter! Which is great because I'm a real sloucher.
Zoning out with my jeans halfway up my thighs,
Sitting on the couch, waiting for the sunrise.
Gonna leave the house, these walls I despise,
Though I'm loathe to leave, I must break these ties.
I've been in good company, while all by myself,
I should break these walls, I should reach out,
But I don't see the point, I'm full of self-doubt.
I know I'll feel better,
If I accept this offer.
But they could do better,
What do I have to offer?
Am I really so human to be around others?
Can I be carefree, can I not be a bother?
Ignore that aversion!
Maybe I'm cool in person...
There's only one way to know:
I have to get up and go.
Edit: Image Description: white/tabby cat on my clothing rack. He has a look of slight worry as his backfeet (not pictured) fall between the rungs.
I have way too many things to do, so of course I'm not doing any of them because I don't know where to start. Small bites. Getting dressed is a good start. I've already scrubbed the shower and washed my hair. Dressed, dry hair, clean floors is next.
Got most it done in a bizarre order, now to chill out for a bit... D4, come at me!!
What's the name of the exercise challenges you've been doing? I'm really interested in the tummy one! I need to work on my core and your comment about standing straighter really struck me!
They're at about the 16:15 mark in this video. It's worth watching the whole thing if you've got the time.. I learnt a lot that I didn't know about how to exercise correctly. I always managed to hurt my back doing sit-ups and didn't know why. I'm not strong enough to do the first one (basic planking) without arching or sagging but the other ones he does are the ones I've been doing. They seem easy but do enough of them and you'll feel it where it counts.
haha I won't tell either lol. My better-half made this, he's the cook here haha. I bake sweet things and bread sometimes, and do the dishes, he makes dinner. We like to grab a hunk of pork roast when it's on special (usually it's about to go bad, so it can be quite cheap). We'll roast it and then use it in our meals for a week or so. It's a good way to make sure we get protein and whatnot :)
Bloody oath. I'm a lamb girl but my man would happily step over a dead body for roast pork. I'd love to see more of your's and your partner's creations please.
I'll try to remember to take photos haha I usually remember after I have finished the meal heheh. This time I managed to hold off for long enought to snap this. When I make bread and pizza dough again, I'll post my recipes (I do it from memory and feel, so it's best if I note it while I make it hahah)
Thanks. I was going to post about it but I might as well just write here in reply to you.
I was burping pretty much all day and was really uncomfortable though the pain last night has me wincing so much I needed to go to bed with a heat pack.
I have an idea why it happened. My workplace replaced sugar with a sweetener and that could be what’s causing my issues and bloating.
It’s the only thing that’s really changed in my diet and it was the first day of using that sweetener in my coffee.
Oh damn! Crazy how such a small change like that can mess us up. Sweetner is gross to me. I hope it goes away soon, must be mighty uncomfortable. Be kind to yourself and take it easy, friend 💜
It’s only a guess to be totally honest. Tomorrow I’ll have to figure out how to get sugar for my coffees at work. I suspect I’ll be packing some in a zip lock bag for tomorrow till I go shopping to fill a jar I have at work.
If it’s not that then I don’t know what would have caused my little indigestion.
Oh it really quite bad last night but today it’s not as bad but still annoying.
Thanks for the well wishes! I might go make a hot tea, might help some.
IMAX tickets for Oppenheimer acquired! The last time I was IMAX I was with a bunch of mates watching Inception and I remember it being such an awesome experience so hopefully it's just as good (or better) this time around.
That's how IMAX is supposed to work - you're seated close to the screen so it fills a substantial part of your peripheral vision. It works very well for content shot specifically for IMAX, but films intended for conventional cinemas don't work so well, and you need to keep turning your head to look around the screen.
El Niño has been declared this season,
The Sun warms us up, that's the reason.
It'll be hot and dry, oh so relatable,
La Niña was humid and fucked, oh so excitable.
Witness the symptoms of our climate attack,
She's left and El Niño is here bringing sweaty back.
Now I'll never hear that lame song in the same way again. ahahahah, thank Stud.
JT paid a few of my bills over the years, but his music is not what I would ever choose to listen to.
In good news, the museum was free with my student card. In bad news it was so horrifically noisy I bailed after less than ten minutes before I had a meltdown. It is not a good place to be with a noise sensitivity.
I did have a lovely walking tour around town taking lots of photos of parks and buildings. I walked from Treasury Gardens up to Melbourne Uni then down to Flagstaff, so I'm very much enjoying being able to sit down for a while on the train
I've successfully sorted my photos from my trip today. The systems garden at Melbourne University had some really great plants, and there was a lot there for the size of it. I also enjoyed looking at the buildings around town, both old and new. There is such an amazing variety of styles and it has been quite a few years since I have been in town to see them. Google maps just shrugged and said "I dunno" when I asked it how to get home, so I wandered until I saw tall buildings to follow, which led me to Queen Victoria Market. I used to work nearby, but it has changed a lot since then.
If you'd like to see my photos, they are on my blog.
I proposed to my wife under the centre dome of the Exhibition Building. Genius move, because I’d see the building as I went past every day and be reminded regularly of that moment – but almost never get a chance to go inside, so it never became something mundane. Also, great odds that building would be there longer than us.
We’re now in Perth, and it’s been years since I went past the building on the tram. You’ve brought back some happy and special memories. Thank you.
Cats cuddled, gas bill paid, 2 loads of washing done and on the line along with the Uniqlo thermals that didn't quite dry yesterday.
Now having a breather with Sammi on my lap and texting back and forth with my aunt about options for restaurants for my birthday, before I take up some leaves for the green bin.
It's been a big day and I'm heading to bed early. Bot #001 is on night shift, and will now be handling the day name in the new post title. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last Thursday (which it marked as Wednesday).
The second best kitchen appliance is the rice cooker*
Shiny base, matte black lid, uh such a looker
No I don't have a crush on the rice cooker
This appliance can't be my culinary hooker
My heart only has space for one nutritional love
A nightshade root, gifted from mother nature above
Its many forms, into my mouth I will shove
Apologies, I digressed from my second true love
Rice cooker
Without ya
I probably just use pasta 🤷♀️
🥔🍠
Edit: I don't really use rice enough to have a rice cooker, also small kitchen. Lots of times if I'm making a rice dish it's cooked in the with sauce too, like risotto, paella type dishes, chilli con carne style meals where I add rice into the pan. On the rare occasion I want to make some plain rice I feel like I do a good enough job in a saucepan
1 cup rice unrinsed, 1.5 cup water. Add to cold pot bring to boil lid off. Simmer on low 12 mins with the lid on. Turn heat off wait 10 mins with lid on (do not take off).
I'm willing to put my potato pitchfork aside and join forces with you on this one too 🤝 unrinsed rice... there's gotta be something wrong with the rice. Or the person. For real
You seem like a pretty knowledgeable person. I can't really believe you would be supporting this non-rinsing nonsense (aside from risotto, exclusively). Can you please help me talk some sense into the heathens?
I like cooking more rice then needed, I dry the leftovers out in the oven on low for a few hours and use that in stirfrys. Tbh, I have not cooked rice in a pan/pot before haha
yes!!! I have a microwave rice cooker, cos i don't have space for a real one. It works. I should really start padding my meals out with brown rice again, it's such a great food.
Just looked through my primary school report cards sent over by my mother, and I didn't even remember this, but they actually marked on the cards whether you were underweight, overweight or of an "acceptable weight". Aside from the fact that we were sitting multiple exams per year from age 7 onwards back then, it sounds so ridiculous that they had our weight on there. Did they do that in Australian primary schools back in the 90s?
e: I have chalked up this weight business to certain countries being way too numbers oriented about everything even with young children
Not weight no. They'd record your 'beep' test results and the PE teacher would talk to parents about it along with general fitness / performance at sport.
NSW primary schools did give students a few annual health checks in the ’80s and ’90s. There were hearing checks, visual acuity checks, colourblindness checks, and a few other things. I think they did weigh students, but don’t quote me on it as I could be mistaken. However, it didn’t appear on report cards. I think it was only ever used for referring a student to a medical specialist, or for welfare checks in extreme cases.
I think like my PE teachers would always remark that I didn't do sports, that I'd need more encouragement and stuff (shocker it's because I had undiagnosed ADHD, I actually like doing active stuff it's just never had the motivation to do it)
But I don't remember weight at all. They probably mentioned it and was like saying that I'm fat but in "nicer" ways. But I don't recall ever having my weight listed.
The Goon Squad is out in force at Essendon right now. Avoid like the plague if you don't wanna be hassled. [edit] Ticket inspectors 🎟️ 🔎 if I'm not being clear enough.
makes me so angry to see them harass the kids going to and from Uni. If it were possible for me to pay their ticket I would, ( I can't afford to pay all the fines ,)
And they aren't ticket inspectors, the old inspector would sell you a ticket, these bastards prefer to fine
Spied on the net, would ya look at that.
Mango-lemon hotsauce with zapped potat!
Salt, butter, pepper, fish from a tin,
A well deserved lunch fit for a King!
It has what MAN craves, tasty smoked herring,
Full of electrolytes, probably, I'm guessing...
Pay no mind to that, it doesnt matter,
In the face of a lunch that can be no better.
This is what peak perfomance looks like,
If you don't agree, get on ya bike!
It probably would be fine... but I'd say mackerel or tuna would work better - at least in a tomatoey pasta sauce. The herring (aka. Kippers, if your shopping for them and get confused) is a bit more delicate, it's a white fish versus the meatiness of tuna/mackerel
I've used tuna before but sometimes I find it a bit too meaty if you know what I mean? I love tender fish so the Kippers sound like it could work well, especially if they're smoked.
Mmm. Thanks. For me, turducken is not just a delicious meal, but it's a symbol of working together - even with those you wouldn't normally - towards a greater goal.
No mood killer like nighttime bus mood killer. If inspectors are gonna keep checking buses, and if prices are this high, then they better be on damn time. A bus being late by three minutes can delay my getting home by forty minutes.
That's not worth ten bucks a day.
EDIT: Yup, won't be home until 11. Bus is that late. Fuck PTV.
This morning was waiting, waiting, writhing, then three turn up simultaneously and two leave empty without pause. Road works are a bitch, but please try to deliver the timetable.
Every damn time, they surround me like I'm gonna do a runner. For God's sake, I'm 70kg soaking wet, I'm neither a flight risk nor a violence one. Meanwhile the methhead up the back of a bus never gets a second look, even though he's threatened four people today.
Yup total criminal here. Like they literally saw me touch on 10 seconds ago, but are all looming and demandy. Oh? Disappointed I have a full fare card and a monthly pass? Poor diddums. This blue hair mean jack squat about what you can assume. And do be remembering to say both Please and Ma’am while you’re at it Arse-ifer 🖕🏻
That’s because you’re less likely to hurt them and also be intimated by them at the same time and likely they get a power trip from intimidating people who can’t fight back.
Moment they see they can get hurt by someone erratic they go running away like cowards.
Vacuuming is done! But also I have completely forgotten what I was up to with everything else. I feel like I'm in a bit of a career and identity crisis at the moment which is distracting me heaps. I will try my best to get back on track.
I’m familiar with the character. I’ve seen a bit of clone wars, but basically nothing of rebels. And I’m a huge fan of Rosario Dawson… but I don’t understand why she sounds so… flat? Is that the word? To me Ahsoko was anything BUT. She was bright, inquisitive and driven. And the clips I’ve seen of rebels she was a touch more reserved and self confident, but this version of her she sounds like she’s totally over everything and everyone.
I don’t think it’s Rosario’s fault, I just don’t like the direction this is going.
I hope they do the character justice. I remember reading a bunch of SW novels back in the late 90s and was introduced to him. He was fine in Rebels but definitely needs a bigger role.
Tell you what, being in the office has got me feeling like a rat in a warming pot. Had to do a fire safety tour and spent the entire time thinking how embarrassing it would be to have a panic attack on my first day back.
First day back in the office this afternoon so you bet I'm just anxiously sitting about my house until it's time to get ready.
On a brighter note, I did get a phone call from my supervisor earlier to confirm I had all my security tags in check, which gave me the brief opportunity to mention moving out of my position now we've returned to the office. They've said they'd move the conversation up the chain and see what can be done, apparently one of my coworkers has asked to be moved as well.
Certain positions and sections are afforded more lenient WFH schedules. Despite my section being the most able to WFH someone in upper management was out to flex their muscles due some politicking that's be going on amongst the ranks.
I walked over 7km on my trip around town today. Now I'm home and Mr woof really wants second walkies. I probably should go now before I sieze up and can't move at all.
I haven't worn safety boots in about 7 years, but still have a pair of Steel Blue lace ups from my last job. I swear I could hike in them with no issues.
He said as soon as he tried them on his thoughts were "These are very comfortable". He said there was no "wearing in" either. He also has the lace ups.
I was gonna say, my usual is 15 or 20 km per day, but if I do 23 km I'm gonna be worn out. 23 k steps is still pretty good.
How long does a pair of boots last him? I've been wearing Brooks Glycerin running shoes. They're good for about 2,000 km on paved surfaces, but I keep wearing them past that because I don't like paying for new pairs.
He's had these ones for more than a year now and they still look pretty new. He'll wear out the tread before anything else. He's owned hard yakka and they last about a year or two.
That’s pretty good. Soles are the first thing to go for me, too. I know it isn’t directly comparable, because I’m doing outdoor, primarily on paved surfaces, at a substantial speed, and need my shoes to handle adverse weather. But damn, I wish I could get a pair of shoes that last me years.
Yes, I don't mind phone calls. But like I'm just sending information already, here's an FAQ, there's no need to call me, I've already sent the information!
She ended up needed to reschedule, as she didn't read the email before the phone call.
gotta say.. I was a lot more nervous with the dentist hacking away on my teeth with a scraper and his drill when there's no anaesthesia involved. Glad to not have a numb face for the rest of the day though!
Huh, that was my yesterday. Had a missing filling and required no numbing. My dentist is awesome and efficient. 30 minutes in an out for a fairly deep cavity (more of a tooth rebuild).
I guess Christmas in July is a real thing. At least KFC thinks so and says we should all be wearing ugly Christmas jumpers, putting up Christmas trees, ordering chicken buckets, and having the time of our lives with friends at a party.
Trouble is as soon as it does it wants to come back out if the hole immediately and I have to spend the next several hours paying the price for not letting it.
Finding time for driving lessons has been proving really hard but I’m going insane being stuck at home with the baby all day. I think I need to brave figuring out the bus with pram etc because then at least I could get to the shopping centre or train station but I’m scared :-(
In other news, just had a young guy in hi vis gear knocking on the door doing the 'we're doing some painting for your neighbours, noticed you needed some work done, would you like a quote' spiel.
Suuuuure, mate.
Years ago, we had some young dudes going around saying they're from the council (they weren't) and that we have to pay them $40 to paint our house number on the curb. They got upset when we said no and told us we'd get a fine from the council. They got even more upset when I said, let me ring the local council to verify that this actually a thing.
Imagine watching "Judgement at Nuremberg", a moving film about the Nazi war crime trials. Imagine it was rewritten so that the judges are presented as conflicted and incompetent, the case presented that Goring, Speer , Ribbentrop and other architects of the war could not be tried because there was no laws against it at the time. Also that the Allies were really responsible because they were imperial powers and anyway, they knew Germany was going to attack and could have stopped them. And did you hear about Dresden? The Allies bombed a city. So it was ALL the Allies responsibility and choice. Not Germany's fault at all. Then you read the credits and the movie was made by Nazis.
Kind of like all the shit Russia is saying now to justify attacking Ukraine and committing genocide.
Kind of like the shit every single one of these genocidaire presidents say at the War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague. "You have no right to try me, I do not recognise you. You are the criminals, not me. Also, not guilty. "
That's what watching "Tokyo Trial " on Netflix is like. Imagine my shock when I read the credits and the series was partly made by the Japanese government. ( no shock at all, just a little that they have the gall to say it out loud when they have been told a hundred times ) Shame on them.
If it were in my purview I would make formal diplomatic complaints.
Don't watch Tokyo Trial, it's the worst propaganda.
I've been smoked out of hiding and made to promise I'll go into the office once a week and today was this week's day. It's semi enjoyable and a novelty in the morning but on the way home it's horrid and I need a week to recover.
How do you feel about posts like this on c/Melbourne?
I'm noticing it's getting downvoted, it might be a bit too on the negative side of topics for the community, I'm also worried about removing it because of the topic as well, would like to hear some input.
I like Shaun's video, and it's informative. But I would necessarily take it down. Yeah it's pretty negative, but I'd hate for this instance to be forced toxic positivity like "everything's fine, everything's cool". etc.
Okay. I've talked through the key issues bothering me and there's a bit more clarity. I've jotted down my thoughts and a bit of a plan on a page and I feel slightly calmer. I'm not sure what's next but at least that's something.
"Cost of living" is a bit of a copout, even if it might have been the killing blow. Getting the basics right, like paying suppliers and staff correctly, is generally necessary for sustainable business.
Weird question, that I'm not too sure who to ask. But since I started this new job June 12th, do I need to lodge a tax return for that period of 18 days at my job?
I'll still need to do one since I worked at a convention last year, but just wondering what the procedure is regarding this new job...
The tax is based on when you were actually paid, not the year the work was done in. So if you didn't get paid before the end of the financial year you don't need to worry about it.
Are you on a wage (employee), or a rolling contract (consultant)? If you're on a wage, then yes, you need to treat those days as being last financial year. If you're on a rolling contract, you treat the entire month as being in the financial year when the invoice is issued.
If you were paid this financial year then you will claim that next year, if you log in to mygov at the end of July your payment statements should be there
Wow.. you simply just cannot get a ticket for Oppenheimer at IMAX Melbourne in premium seating. Every single session online until August 14 is sold out of premium seating. Damn!
Edit OMG was IMAX always this expensive?? I don't remember paying this much! lol they also have the utter audacity to add a $2 booking fee on top of that. Thieves.
Edit Edit I am not paying $45 to sit in any of the garbage edge or front seats which is all that is available for any session. Guess I'll just go see it at my regular haunt, Docklands Hoyts XtremeScreen.
Their whole business model is to operate a taxi service while claiming it isn’t a taxi service, to avoid following regulations for taxi services. In cities where they’ve been been forced to follow regulations, they’ve lost their licenses to operate multiple times. For example:
Can’t find a link at the moment, but they lost their license to operate in Việt Nam entirely for tax evasion and improper business registration
Uber under-pays drivers. With the rates they pay, driving for Uber is effectively a reverse mortage on your car. They prey on vulnerable people. Businesses that can’t pay a living wage shouldn’t exist. Remember FDR:
No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.
By living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level — I mean the wages of a decent living.
(1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act)
Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, who has been turning his employees over to the Government relief rolls in order to preserve his company’s undistributed reserves, tell you – using his stockholders’ money to pay the postage for his personal opinions — tell you that a wage of $11.00 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry.
(1938, Fireside Chat, the night before signing the Fair Labor Standards Act)
I haven’t actively looked into GoGet’s dealings, but they don’t have the same history of well-known scandals that Uber has.
Yeah, ironic that the USA, which produced FDR, is now producing all these “gig economy” companies that rely on mistreating employees, and also allows underpaying staff expected to make it up in tips. Vulture capitalism for the win, baby! Ever since Reagan at least.
Thank you for sharing the good news :)
Congratulations! I know what it's like waiting for Centrelink to do anything 🙄
Amazing news 😁
Congratulations! Been there, I know what a relief it is to have it sorted.

Feels like the circle of life.
Feels a bit mIRC spec. Not the look but the vibe of the thing. Happy memories.
Felt like reddit today when I was called unhinged and blocked people lol. But it's definitely a much nicer vibe overall.
Why can’t people just be nice to each other? :(
Because some people are either know it alls or arseholes I think.
Yup. Plenty of those types around.
Anyway sorry it made you feel that way and that you had to deal with those types of people.
I just won Metro lotto - arrived at the station as the train was pulling up, and got a forward facing window seat.
Nice to see you too :) Yeh it can be tough, small adjustments can make big differences and trying to be consistent is the key :)
Interesting! What distance(s?) do you normally throw in the competitive scene?
If you win in Sydney do you then have to compete against Jason Momoa? 😊
About 4.5m for hatchet and 5.5m for big axe. Momoa got nothing on me :P
Wow I must be old... Took me a while to figure out how to get here. What? Get off my lawn.
Welcome old timer.👵🏻👴🏻
Why thank you!
What kind of pudding are you?
The post-COVID type 🤣
I wished for Golden Syrup but good answer. Welcome.
Hooray! Here is a pin for you, botbot, so that you won't fly away. 📌
Day 18 of exercise program and day 3 of 10 day tummy challenge completed. I'm already feeling like I can walk a little straighter! Which is great because I'm a real sloucher.
Good work😊. I'm on a rest day from the weights today, but will have lots of walking.
You got this 💪
I have way too many things to do, so of course I'm not doing any of them because I don't know where to start. Small bites. Getting dressed is a good start. I've already scrubbed the shower and washed my hair. Dressed, dry hair, clean floors is next.
Hey that's great, you've already done heaps! I like to write a "done" list as much as a "to do" list. It helps me feel a bit more accomplished.
Since we're doing dinner posts, image ID: blue bowl of stirfry veggies and pork on rice, and a Temple Brewing Co. Okinawa Sour.
Left over pork from a roast we did to put meat in out dishes. Very filling :)
I hope everyone is having a nice night, sending you all my love 💜
Made with Shikuwasa, aka. citrus depressa 💀
aww yeeee bby 🤤 🤤
Oooooo. I'm not gonna tell the man that you got pork and he got tuna. You and your meal are fucking awesome.
haha I won't tell either lol.
Lamb, did you say lamb?
I love lamb!!!!! Lamb over pork any day of the week, no contest!
I'd happily eat a lamb chop every day of the week.
Oh me too along with rosemary and mint seasoning or even just plain old salt. Medium rare and all juicy.
🤤
I agree on all accounts. Mint jelly, gravy, s&p, medium rare yes yes yes.
I'll try to remember to take photos haha I usually remember after I have finished the meal heheh. This time I managed to hold off for long enought to snap this. When I make bread and pizza dough again, I'll post my recipes (I do it from memory and feel, so it's best if I note it while I make it hahah)
Yum yum there and I hope the can of brew you have is nice too!
Also feeling better after I ate some pasta my side still hurts some.
I'm glad you're feeling better, friend! Hopefully it resolves fully soon :)
I love pasta, such a fantastic invention!
I might go make a hot tea, might help some.
are you listening to german christian radio🤔
haha nah just my german playlist - that song is Ich Tanze Mir Mir Allein - Madsen
I'm Dancing With Myself - Madsen
i am relieved
IMAX tickets for Oppenheimer acquired! The last time I was IMAX I was with a bunch of mates watching Inception and I remember it being such an awesome experience so hopefully it's just as good (or better) this time around.
My last IMAX venture was Avatar. Cool cinema but the seats we got maybe was a tad too close.
Yeah we had to book Tues afternoon tickets cause all there were no good seats left in the evening shows (as in seats in the prime locations)
It looks interesting from the ads I saw. I hope you got some good seats and enjoy the film!
Been awhile since I’ve done a midweek cinema trip though.
That's how IMAX is supposed to work - you're seated close to the screen so it fills a substantial part of your peripheral vision. It works very well for content shot specifically for IMAX, but films intended for conventional cinemas don't work so well, and you need to keep turning your head to look around the screen.
Yep. Was a bit of a pain but someone invited me along so I didn’t get to choose the seats.
Hurt a bit craning my neck from side to side but it was still a good watch.
My last IMAX film was Dune. I shall be going there to see part 2 for sure.
Oh that would have been good to see! I watched it at home on my tv and fell asleep midway so maybe if I saw it at IMAX I would've stayed awake :D
It’s like early spring out here. Sun warm, wind not too cold. Went out in short sleeves for lunchtime walk and not cold.
El Niño has been declared this season,
The Sun warms us up, that's the reason.
It'll be hot and dry, oh so relatable,
La Niña was humid and fucked, oh so excitable.
Witness the symptoms of our climate attack,
She's left and El Niño is here bringing sweaty back.
edit: corrected :)
Now I'll never hear that lame song in the same way again. ahahahah, thank Stud. JT paid a few of my bills over the years, but his music is not what I would ever choose to listen to.
corrected lol :)
I've turned off the heating and opened the windows to let some fresh air in, it's glorious
Someone should buy you the Fairpods-XL for Xmas 😊

Good BotBot
very good bot 😀
Thank you.
great photos!
Looks like you have an incredible eye for detail! Loved it
I do like details. I especially liked that the fountain at Carlton Gardens had platypus on it 🙂
Cats cuddled, gas bill paid, 2 loads of washing done and on the line along with the Uniqlo thermals that didn't quite dry yesterday.
Now having a breather with Sammi on my lap and texting back and forth with my aunt about options for restaurants for my birthday, before I take up some leaves for the green bin.
Massaged, dry needled and back cracked by the physio.....ahhhhhhh if only I could relive this feeling every day (for free)
I could do with one of those today for sure, it sounds so nice.
A $25 1m foam roller off eBay was one of the best things I ever bought for my back.
It's been a big day and I'm heading to bed early. Bot #001 is on night shift, and will now be handling the day name in the new post title. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last Thursday (which it marked as Wednesday).
Any plans for a Sydney or NSW Daily Discussion Thread? Seems to be a great idea.
*^the/first/being/the/microwave/with/a/potato/inside/of/course/though/until/I/can/get/mine/fixed/or/replaced/the/rice/cooker/takes/top/spot/in/lieu^
Easy stove top fluffy rice every time:
1 cup rice unrinsed, 1.5 cup water. Add to cold pot bring to boil lid off. Simmer on low 12 mins with the lid on. Turn heat off wait 10 mins with lid on (do not take off).
Fluff with fork.
Fluffy
Every time
Major fluff.
UNRINSED? Pure savagery
We have pretty good grown rice here in Australia. No need to rinse.
I think it's more about getting rid of some the starchy powdery stuff on the outside that makes it gluggy - unless you want that like in risotto
I had my doubts too.
unrinsed is the way
I'm not going to downvote you... But I certainly won't upvote you
I'm willing to put my potato pitchfork aside and join forces with you on this one too 🤝 unrinsed rice... there's gotta be something wrong with the rice. Or the person. For real
woooow
Fully agree with this. Very good method.
You seem like a pretty knowledgeable person. I can't really believe you would be supporting this non-rinsing nonsense (aside from risotto, exclusively). Can you please help me talk some sense into the heathens?
Unrinsed? You’re making all the Asian ancestors cry
I like cooking more rice then needed, I dry the leftovers out in the oven on low for a few hours and use that in stirfrys. Tbh, I have not cooked rice in a pan/pot before haha
yes!!! I have a microwave rice cooker, cos i don't have space for a real one. It works. I should really start padding my meals out with brown rice again, it's such a great food.
do it! relatively cost effective way to get full and pad out the meals :D
Did they do that in Australian primary schools back in the 90s?
e: I have chalked up this weight business to certain countries being way too numbers oriented about everything even with young children
can confirm, no weight ever noted on report cards
Not weight no. They'd record your 'beep' test results and the PE teacher would talk to parents about it along with general fitness / performance at sport.
Same with the beep test results.
We had a whole ass fitness test every year with 5 stations testing different types of fitness and a 1.6 km (later 2.4 km) run
Never had it commented on in QLD.
Definitely not
I think like my PE teachers would always remark that I didn't do sports, that I'd need more encouragement and stuff (shocker it's because I had undiagnosed ADHD, I actually like doing active stuff it's just never had the motivation to do it)
But I don't remember weight at all. They probably mentioned it and was like saying that I'm fat but in "nicer" ways. But I don't recall ever having my weight listed.
I don’t remember weight being one of the criteria on my report cards ever from memory.
I definitively know there was a comments sections and another for grading maybe.
I finally have had a calmer day.
I am having kitty cuddles and knitting my way through the first clue of a sock along.
Feeling better.
:)

The Goon Squad is out in force at Essendon right now. Avoid like the plague if you don't wanna be hassled. [edit] Ticket inspectors 🎟️ 🔎 if I'm not being clear enough.
Their job title is stupid - 'authorised officer'
Imagine telling someone what your job is, with no context of living in Melbourne.
I'm an authorised officer_
What's that?
You know...a ticket inspector
Well fucking say that next time...twat
*international student tear inducement officer.
makes me so angry to see them harass the kids going to and from Uni. If it were possible for me to pay their ticket I would, ( I can't afford to pay all the fines ,)
And they aren't ticket inspectors, the old inspector would sell you a ticket, these bastards prefer to fine
Image: best lunch I had in ages. Microwaved sweet potato, butter, salt, pepper and some mango-lemon hotsauce, topped with smoked herring (from a tin)
The orange sweet tater makes this dish pop!
Not just amazingly cheap, easy to prepare, incredibly nutritious and delicious, it's also pretty enough to frame! What more could you ask for?
::: spoiler spoiler The answer is nothing, you could not ask for anything more ::: .
🥰❤️
Already forgot about the herring, going to see if I can grab some tomorrow when I do my shopping.
I wonder if it'd pair well with pasta sauce?
It probably would be fine... but I'd say mackerel or tuna would work better - at least in a tomatoey pasta sauce. The herring (aka. Kippers, if your shopping for them and get confused) is a bit more delicate, it's a white fish versus the meatiness of tuna/mackerel
I've used tuna before but sometimes I find it a bit too meaty if you know what I mean? I love tender fish so the Kippers sound like it could work well, especially if they're smoked.
Well only one way to find out!
It does. Very well indeed.

Old laptop. I don't really use it now I have a tablet, so it's good to give it a purpose.
That's nice to hear.
Peaches and cream, hot buttered toast and a nice cup of really hot coffee please.

Haha love the LinkedIn take on turducken!
Not feeling great but I'm going to ask for a bacon and egg roll.

Nope, but here's a $300 fine, as well as treatment as if you're a criminal, for not being able to afford a $10 daily fare for our fucked PT system
Don’t even need to be fined to be treated like a criminal by them.
I remember my last run in with them 20 years ago and it seems they haven’t done a thing to change their conduct all those years.
Ahsoka trailer has warmed up my cold heart.
Show looks lit af
I’m familiar with the character. I’ve seen a bit of clone wars, but basically nothing of rebels. And I’m a huge fan of Rosario Dawson… but I don’t understand why she sounds so… flat? Is that the word? To me Ahsoko was anything BUT. She was bright, inquisitive and driven. And the clips I’ve seen of rebels she was a touch more reserved and self confident, but this version of her she sounds like she’s totally over everything and everyone.
I don’t think it’s Rosario’s fault, I just don’t like the direction this is going.
Rebels was meh at the start, but got pretty dang good. Clone wars is a must watch for SW fans.
Maybe they're taking a 'mature and dejected' Ahsoka approach in this?
Or they just got carried away with the deadpan style of the Mandalorian 😊
I'm so excited for live action Thrawn
I hope they do the character justice. I remember reading a bunch of SW novels back in the late 90s and was introduced to him. He was fine in Rebels but definitely needs a bigger role.
Tell you what, being in the office has got me feeling like a rat in a warming pot. Had to do a fire safety tour and spent the entire time thinking how embarrassing it would be to have a panic attack on my first day back.
new inks and paint have been obtained , calligraphy india ink, dark blue, metallic black and a box of mixed colours , wheeee 😀😀😀
My body battery says 77 today. It might have had something to do with the 11 hours of sleep I had. Ready for the day.
I feel like my body battery is at 5 today no matter how much coffee I drink.
That's me most days but I just fight it.
If I close my eyes now I could fully fall asleep
I enjoy watching The Witcher but my god Jaskier is so annoying.
Are only certain positions required to attend the office for your workplace?
Certain positions and sections are afforded more lenient WFH schedules. Despite my section being the most able to WFH someone in upper management was out to flex their muscles due some politicking that's be going on amongst the ranks.
Ugh. Stupid games.
I walked over 7km on my trip around town today. Now I'm home and Mr woof really wants second walkies. I probably should go now before I sieze up and can't move at all.
Well you are rusty after all, so good call. 😅
During the axe throwing marathon on Sunday i managed to walk 15km haha
My husband manages 23,000 steps most days around the warehouse. The man is a machine.
Hope he has comfortable shoes and insoles.
He wears Steel Blue and he fucking loves them.
Thats a big day!
Whoops I changed it to steps. My apologies.
::: spoiler 23,000+ steps a day over a year :::
Could someone pour some oil on your joints?
::: spoiler Pasta for dinner tonight

Talking about foodporn, look at this creamy, yellow mac'n'cheese. If you slurp it, it sounds just like c...onsumption! :D
I love mac'n'cheese, it's a top-tier comfort food!
Pasta for you and I thought I went the tomato pasta sauce route.
I’m so full now!
fuck it I'm having a sauna
Sounds amazing tbh
I have to have a phone call with someone for this job... Ughhhhhhhh I don't wanna!
But I've gotta rip the band-aid off soon.
You can do it! Good luck!
Just don't know why people can't read emails. Like the info is there.
I'm gonna kms if it's just basic stuff that was in the email... (The kms comment is very sarcastic!!!!)
Phone calls have a lot more tone and expression than emails.
Yes, I don't mind phone calls. But like I'm just sending information already, here's an FAQ, there's no need to call me, I've already sent the information!
She ended up needed to reschedule, as she didn't read the email before the phone call.
I hear ya.
That's ridiculous. The only good thing about Christmas is the Christmas pud and custard. Everybody knows that. Get back in your hole kfc.
Fun fact: KFC in actual Christmas is a thing in Japan but I agree, nice try.
I did know this and good on them but it won't work here.
It has succeeded on many occasions but not for FUCKING CHRISTMAS and not for FUCKING PRETEND CHRISTMAS either.
You gotta pay the troll toll to get into KFCs hole
Trouble is as soon as it does it wants to come back out if the hole immediately and I have to spend the next several hours paying the price for not letting it.
I’m more a Halloween gal and my anxiety keeps me from parties so No Christmas in July for this girl, sorry kfc
That's a no from me.

Yes of course.
Cool! Where'd you get that?
A little smoke shop in Roxburgh Park.
I've had that one. I think it's cute.
Hey @[email protected] I made a fish dish too.
::: spoiler My tuna Mornay ::: Image: One rectangular dish full of tuna mornay.
Yummy creation there. Been ages since I’ve had tuna Mornay and they’re yummy too.
I admit I’m sometimes scared to make cream sauces incase I don’t like them.
Don't be scared of cream. Cream is a friend unless you're lactose intolerant then it's a different story.
Some cheeses make me feel sick, especially the smell of some of them.
You’re right. I shouldn’t be sacred. A creamy white wine sauce is something I love though!
dayum girl, that's some hot'n'tasty foodporn. Cheesy ;)
I fucking loaded that thing with heaps of veg to counteract the carbs, cream and shitload of cheese I put in it.
yeah you did, you loaded that mornay good and proper, girl 😍
Yummm. I adore tuna mornay, and most fishy pasta tbh. Idk why tuna mornay gets a bad rap it's so good!
Technically not a mornay because I made it with cream but I'll call it what I like.
Who de's punks dissin' the fish dish? I'll mess em up.
OMG. I haven't had tuna mornay since forever and this looks amazing. Might have to put it on the agenda this week.
As long as there's pics for us.
There is nothing I love more than taking pics of food and looking at pics of food.. except eating the thing. Watch this space
Is that a threat? That better be.
The most threatening threat you will ever be threatened by.. probably
Had the same about a decade and a half ago. A lot of neighbours took them up and the numbers wore off in about 6 months heh.
Same here. :/
We were one of the few that refused. And yes, about 6 months later all gone.
Good scam though. Get some spray paint and stencils, drive around and make a few hundred bucks in a few days.
Don't watch Tokyo Trial, it's the worst propaganda.
here's some clips from Judgement at Nuremberg

sorry for the rant , for some reason genocide denial gets me upset
I've been smoked out of hiding and made to promise I'll go into the office once a week and today was this week's day. It's semi enjoyable and a novelty in the morning but on the way home it's horrid and I need a week to recover.
Super dooper especially at NYE or such times. Why anyone finds such overcrowded mayhem appealing is beyond me.
If you're ever up for some chips elizabeth st. maccas 2 am Sat. lemme know I will protect you.
cbd is still beautiful, you just have to plan your trip well
How do you feel about posts like this on c/Melbourne?
I'm noticing it's getting downvoted, it might be a bit too on the negative side of topics for the community, I'm also worried about removing it because of the topic as well, would like to hear some input.
Leave it up man. Get some some variety up in this bish.
It’s two hours long and nobody gonna listen to it anyway.
Leave it up. Then it's the reader/listener's choice. Maybe a nsfw warning.
I like Shaun's video, and it's informative. But I would necessarily take it down. Yeah it's pretty negative, but I'd hate for this instance to be forced toxic positivity like "everything's fine, everything's cool". etc.
It has nothing to do with Melbourne though or Australia
Okay. I've talked through the key issues bothering me and there's a bit more clarity. I've jotted down my thoughts and a bit of a plan on a page and I feel slightly calmer. I'm not sure what's next but at least that's something.
I love getting fucked in the arse as much as the next person, but this increase can fuck itself ugh
Yeah why can't "dictator" dan just re-nationalise the fucking grid? /s
Was that in an email? I didn’t get notified yet.

Both Calia and Puzzle Coffee have gone into voluntary administration. Feels like a shit hitting the fan moment with the cost of living crisis.
"Cost of living" is a bit of a copout, even if it might have been the killing blow. Getting the basics right, like paying suppliers and staff correctly, is generally necessary for sustainable business.
Holy crap. Puzzle Coffee's only been around for a hot minute.
Weird question, that I'm not too sure who to ask. But since I started this new job June 12th, do I need to lodge a tax return for that period of 18 days at my job?
I'll still need to do one since I worked at a convention last year, but just wondering what the procedure is regarding this new job...
If you were paid in that time, yep.
If you have new tax-deductable expenses in that time remember to include them either way.
Thought so. Only issue is that I'm being paid monthly and I should be paid today. So do I just calculate the pay from June 12th - June 30th?
Sorry for all the questions, I've only ever had to do this for when I worked the con and that was pretty easy.
The tax is based on when you were actually paid, not the year the work was done in. So if you didn't get paid before the end of the financial year you don't need to worry about it.
Ahh okay. Yeah I didn't get paid until today so that helps, thank you!
Are you on a wage (employee), or a rolling contract (consultant)? If you're on a wage, then yes, you need to treat those days as being last financial year. If you're on a rolling contract, you treat the entire month as being in the financial year when the invoice is issued.
If you were paid this financial year then you will claim that next year, if you log in to mygov at the end of July your payment statements should be there
Yes, you need to lodge for anything you earned in that financial year
If you worked for pay in that financial year, then yes I’d say you’ll need to lodge a tax return.

Congrats on level 43
Only 11 million xp for the next one 🏃🏻♀️
I mean the game isn’t meant to be rushed. Do you fast catch?
Just looked that up, no. Overall more interested in a full collection, majority friends internet randoms = don’t raid much
Fast catching is just quicker way of catching spawns. Nothing to do with raids. I only mention it as you were talking about how many XP to do 😅
Was extremely bored, and started Googling trams whilst on the tram.
Wikipedia seems to have a hole for the newer 109/Class-C trams, where they don't actually know what brakes they use, which is fun.
Also didn't know that we'd already gone through the whole alphabet once.
Wow.. you simply just cannot get a ticket for Oppenheimer at IMAX Melbourne in premium seating.
Uber Carshare vs Goget... other than pricing, are there any reasons whether I should avoid/prefer one over the other?
Uber is a scummy company with a history of scandals. Here’s a list from a few years ago: https://www.businessinsider.com/uber-company-scandals-and-controversies-2017-11?op=1
Their whole business model is to operate a taxi service while claiming it isn’t a taxi service, to avoid following regulations for taxi services. In cities where they’ve been been forced to follow regulations, they’ve lost their licenses to operate multiple times. For example:
Uber under-pays drivers. With the rates they pay, driving for Uber is effectively a reverse mortage on your car. They prey on vulnerable people. Businesses that can’t pay a living wage shouldn’t exist. Remember FDR:
(1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act)
(1938, Fireside Chat, the night before signing the Fair Labor Standards Act)
I haven’t actively looked into GoGet’s dealings, but they don’t have the same history of well-known scandals that Uber has.
'merica fuck yeah.. underpaid gig economy gonna save the mf-ing day yeah.
Yeah, ironic that the USA, which produced FDR, is now producing all these “gig economy” companies that rely on mistreating employees, and also allows underpaying staff expected to make it up in tips. Vulture capitalism for the win, baby! Ever since Reagan at least.
😅 Typical.
I’ve used GoGet & flexicar and had no major issues with either. GoGet is essential run/ owned by Hurtz.
Thanks Miss Cellophane. Which one do you have a better experience with, in terms of car quality and customer service?
Oh! Sorry, I just saw this!
Go Get in quality and customer service have been the winner for me.
Thank you:)
Anyone been to the Frankston Brewhouse? We're going on Sunday
Made it through the first in office shift despite some anxious wobbles, now time to cosy up with my cat who's acting like he's been abandon.
