Try to sell me VRChat

Post by: u/Large-Style-8355

There seem to be a huge and growing daily active user base, fans who put a ton of effort into tracking their arms, upper body legs, even ears and tails. I'm hesitant to try it myself, putting the time and effort into it but am extremely curious about the hype.
Please sell me VRchat with your personal experience. Why do you go in, why do come back, what had hocked you, what are your most impressive moments, the best memories, what are you looking forward to?

tapafon: Avoid going into public worlds (especially the Black Cat). Join Virtual Relics, Ancients of VRC or NFFC and join events there. Much better experience.

Large-Style-8355: Not sure if I will join any time because there is family, friends, job, hobby and more. But will come back of I give it a try.

WGG25: vrchat is not a game, it's a social experience. if that doesn't interest you already, it's probably not for you. i'm the worst salesman ever 😅

Large-Style-8355: What's this "social experience" for you, what are you doing there, what are the joys of coming back again and again?

WGG25: let me answer with a question: what do people like about going out and socializing? it's the same deal, except in vr, where you can be anywhere you want, "in the body" of anyone/anything you want.

if you have the (mis?)concept of "you can only make friends irl face-to-face", you might not see value in this, but people can and have made online friends through vrchat.

p.s. i haven't launched vrchat yet, i'm an introvert and it seems a bit daunting for me, but i'm still kinda interested to experience it fully

WGG25: i'm pretty sure yes, the characters are user generated content, so vrchat is full of everything

Large-Style-8355: I have no conception of VRChatbat all. Just trying to get honest and open insights from active VRChat users.

Phantomdude_YT: I go on it very often to try and make friends since I'm very lonely at the moment. I have been doing it for a solid few 2 years on and off and the progress just talks for itself

Large-Style-8355: Not sure what you are saying - you try to get friends in VRChat but zero success?

1

Large-Style-8355: Sorry to hear that! How about going with other social games on the quest like Golf, Minigolf, RecRoom, Eleven Tablet Tennis, RoBlox, FPS etc.? Tons of people love to interact while enjoying a competive or cooperative or casual activity - might be easier to get a friend there? But that said - besides playing Eleven Tables Tennis online games daily an hour or so it's social aspect mostly is hundred times below real life interactions. The exception is when I have a rare casual game with a guy with an open, interested mind speaking my native language and is open to chat.

Noa15Lv: Its an wonderful place, where your mind can open up & enjoy the environment around you.

Plenty of "mature" people around there, have to dig that iceberg bit deeper & push away kids which been covering the tip.

But my main favourite activity there is : "Clubbing Scenes".

Large-Style-8355: Ok, VRChat competition - but I'm looking for the WHY?

shakamone: VRChat caters to very specific things and it tends to be a bit overrun of those things. If you like anime and anime avatars then VRChat is your thing. If you like furries then VRChat is your thing. If you arent into any of those things then its harder to find a community on VRChat. People find it hard to break into those clique communities too (as others have said).

Banter is a bit of a reincarnation of AltspaceVR if you are familiar with that, but less prudish and with custom avatar support. Its made by SideQuest so it should be good.

full disclosure though, I'm biased because I built SideQuest and Banter.

Large-Style-8355: Sorry for being blunt - does less prudish mean it's target to enable sexual interactions in VR?

1

The__Lost__Ghost: Can you tell me what differentiates it from vr chat. If its good i can try it when i come back from traveling.

Honza368: Alright, I was very skeptical as well about VRChat before I tried it just a couple of weeks ago for the first time. So a couple of weeks ago we were essentially in the same boat.

Essentially, think of it like chatrooms, except it's not a text field with messages but instead a room with characters. In its essence, VRChat is about socializing with people in VR and doing funny things. The game is mainly populated by people who just want to have fun on a weekend evening but there are of course also weird people.

VRChat has tons of worlds - each world is a minigame (but there are also worlds without minigames) - and usually the main purpose of said games is socializing with people.

I know I'm describing it in an odd way but it's not so much a videogame, as it is a social entertainment device.

Powermonger2567: Why do you have to put 'time and effort into' it? its not hard to get back 0$ worth of money ;-)

1

Powermonger2567: Its quicker to just download the app than making an reddit post about it. And now you have to try it anyways
