I'm putting a bunch of stuff on a stick and burning it then going for a swim.

This is the most profound thing I'm doing today.

Starting my new job tomorrow!

But they still havenโ€™t informed me of when exactly Iโ€™m meant to start my shit. Will have to call in and chase that up after lunch me thinks.

Oh and I started my own community for anyone interested, learning about, or working in early childhood.

That's so cool you've started a new community. You should make a post from [email protected] explaining what it's about (I know pretty self explaining really but you know) and it'll land on the homepage. If it's just Melbourne based then post it in [email protected]. It'll still end up on the home page.

Good luck with your new job tomorrow!

Something's not quite right because your community is not showing up in the list of Aussie.zone communities. I'm an idiot when it comes to tech but maybe @[email protected] can sort it out because he's a champion at this.

4

I think you are correct but I didn't know how to put it into those words. If that's the case then disregard everything I said.

The community is showing up fine for me. There may have been a little bit of a delay if this is the first time aussie.zone users have looked at Quokk.au communities. First-time federation can take a couple of minutes.

Anyway, it's fine, now. I didn't do anything.

2
CEOofmyhouse56reply

Oh ok. It's not showing up on the list of local communities for me. I don't know enough about this kind of stuff though.

2
Nathreply
aussie.zone

Ahh - now I see what you mean. It isn't showing up in local communities because it isn't a local community. That interpretation of "local" means "local to aussie.zone", not local to Australia. As the community lives on Quokk.au, it isn't local as far as Lemmy is concerned.

![email protected] exists, for example - but it won't show up on local communities, because it lives on lemmy.world.

Subscribed. My girlfriend is studying to become an ECT and we have almost a year and a half old twins at home

Back from my first day and oh my god I'm SO tired making an 8am start. Despite hitting the snooze button several times and leaving considerably later than I thought. And everyone else starts at 7 ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ with plenty of people having longer commutes than me. I'll get used to it.

I was a bit too out of it today take in everything with it all happening so fast, but it was a good first day. Being at a depot does mean it's still very testosterone heavy but not my immediate manager which makes a huge difference. My team is really friendly and welcoming and open with each other which is awesome.

I am super glad this is just part time though, I so wouldn't have the energy for full time hours in such a high contact role. And I'd feel suffocated for sure, no matter how good the workplace was

E: also, hectic wind and humidity out there but... where's the rain??? ๐Ÿ˜ญ I think that's adding to the lethargy

there was a Muppet out with his 2 stroke blower yesterday drying his stupid F off sized ranger at 7pm last night. Just rolled my eyes, of course he owned a yank tank.

4

I feel like it would just make me angrier, it's so windy so there's no satisfying clean yard and pile of leaves at the end ๐Ÿ˜‚

Is your dog a mouse hunter? Mine is not, she makes friends with them and even shares her food. When I explain the purpose of the JRT breed to her she wags her tail and gives me a head tilt.

5

My old dog used to chase them and catch them outside but if they ever came in she would watch them and look at us as if to say 'this one is your problem'

4
Seagoon_reply

I found squished kraft processed cheese with bacon bits to be irresistible to mice. Check the traps everyday. I once caught dozens of the buggers in my neighbour's aviary with this method

4

Not my jurisdiction. What I can tell you is the traps get washed with soap and loaded up with their own peanut butter. They get checked every day but not by me.

3
Catfishreply

How would you counteract that combo being irresistible to certain humans?

2

If we get a 30 degree day in April I might not bother making additional super contributions

4

Post art on different platform, nobody's really that interested. Plus it'd just get scraped by AI. :(

(I know I should be making it for myself but when you're depressed and everything's difficult it's nice to get a little extra motivation or a bit of a boost from others' enjoyment.)

6

Its bin day in my estate and not a single one is left standing. Fortunately they were already emptied.

6

I was smelling it a night or two ago and heard sirens so maybe something happened

I saw someone mention somewhere that there was a bunch of planned burns going on

4

I swear this like the 3rd or 4th year in a row when planned burns occur on the windiest day imaginable. I know that these are scheduled some time in advance, but surely there is some contingency.

tandoori chicken in oven, rice with almonds and sultanas in the cooker. It smells good. :)

Glad I watered all the plants last night. Got 40 seconds of rain today.

Which means ongoing watering, so back to the watering routine

6

Yeah, I wish I'd watered my plants because I came back to a wilted sad mess and a couple of potted chillies blown over by the wind

How hard is it to hook up an RSS feed to Lemmy? I was thinking we could do with the deal feed from Ozbargin on here

5

It might be a fun little project to figure out when I have a moment. An actual public service bot doing product recalls would be useful

What are the best hot cross buns that money can buy? I'm enjoying this brioche choc chip variety from Woolies but thinking there must be better.

5

I second these. And third.. and fourth and fifth. And Iโ€™d really better stop because my pants are getting tight

5

Cannibal Creek Bakehouse in Garfield. Just a short Vline trip for the Melbournites. Wood fired brioche buns are to die for.

3

Iโ€™ve had some damn nice ones at gourmet bakeries, but thereโ€™s none near me and also expensive for regular consumption. If itโ€™s between Coles, Woolies and Bakers delight, Bakers is the best for sure.

I like the standard fruit and also choc chip. Iโ€™m not a puritan and occasionally try the other flavours. If you are feeling exceptionally brave I saw pizza shapes flavoured buns at the supermarket. Itโ€™s gone too far. Why. Just why.

So tonight I ran into 'Abbey', a randomly lost presumably senile border collie on the dog beach path. I went for a swim and it was still there on the way back devoid of an owner.

She was happily reunited with her human thanks to a lovely lady who had her phone with her called the number on the tag.

There are good people out there.

Just finished listening to World war Z audio book, really enjoyed it. Itโ€™s nothing like the movie. Each chapter is told as an interview with someone who survived the zombie war and what part they played in it. Different voice actors throughout really added to it.

5

Have listened to it a couple times, definitely enjoyed, but yeh nothing like the movie. Movie was basically just like.. leveraging the books success to sell better, nothing else

3

I print read it, but agree there was little resemblance to the film. Not that there is in a vast majority of cases

3

I've got a bunch of books to listen to and am trying to get them on my phone so I can listen on the tram and bus.

Currently planning my fortnight shopping and what I'd like to eat. I think I might go chicken wings seasoned with something for a few days. Going to buy at least 3kg-4kg so I hope it lasts me for awhile.

Just the thought of crispy air fried wings is making me hungry.

3

When I buy wings, I separate the tips, wingettes and drumettes and freeze them in portions. The tips can be made into stock for when I have some nearly expired vegies.

I'm a bit rusty...

You and I have loved before
I know the rules of love and you do, also
A commitment to one another with no bounds is what I am considering
This I believe is not something another man is able to offer you
I must tell you of my feelings; to convey understanding
I am never going to give you up
I am never going to let you down
I will not flee desert you
I will not cause you undue distress
I will not willingly say farewell I will not tell a falsehood and cause you pain

Ancient scripts are just a script, and many languages use a script, like English and French use the same script but are different languages..

So script and language, once you decode you can prolly determine language

My husband had a look and said it had a touch of arabic so his guess would be Babylonian or Assyrian.

Edit: Probably not Babylonian. If it helps the scripts are written from right to left.
