Use Unbound to redirect youtube.com to invidious?

Has anyone tried to use unbound (or even a hosts file) to redirect requests to youtube to an invidious instance? It seems pretty trivial in my head but I cannot find any reference to it online

There's not really an elegant way to do this because of HTTPS.

You can use a browser extension like Privacy Redirect to do this though (and/or set up SearXNG to do it however this will only redirect you from search results of Youtube.com on that SearXNG instance).

Ah that makes sense, I hadn’t considered that https would mess this up. I actually already use libredirect on Firefox on my desktop, I was just hoping to set up a network wide redirect. Thanks for the help!

You can always load up your own custom CA and generate certs on the fly but it gets really complicated compared to even rolling out a custom browser addon to do the same much more easily and reliably.

I use a self hosted SearXNG instance and have that rewrite YouTube, Reddit, and Twitter links. You probably could hack Unbound to rewrite domains as well but you could run into some issues.
