I mentioned the other day that I knew one of the boys that was murdered in Sydney. It was Luke Davies.

I had only known him for a couple of years, since his cabin crew training here in Melbourne, so I am not close enough to his friends or family to really be connected to their community in mourning.

But in my own way I just want the universe to know that each and every word about how he was a beautiful soul are true.

This is a fate that I am still failing to comprehend. My heart aches for his family and close friends. I will dearly miss him.

Just one more big bear hug would have been nice, hey fella?

Library trip!!! Or take a leaf from @baku's book and go travelling to somewhere. St Kilda pier for cakes and coffee? Altona Beach? PT goes to a lot of places even if you limit yourself to trains/trams.

If they taped shows or movies off the telly there will be old ads

( first show I saw on tape was Blake 7 , I borrowed a player from the library at school, it was 1978. )

You might also need to use a tape head cleaner first .

2

Clean the heads, but please donโ€™t use a head clean tape ( in the bizzare offchance you find one) those things were sandpaper, you want a light solvent.

Ha. I have a VCR. I don't think it has been plugged into power at any point in the kids' lives. It's just been there at the bottom of the entertainment cabinet, dark and mysterious and ignored.

The only tapes I still have are Star Wars remastered (Han still shoots first) and 1997 editions. Widescreen versions.

I should put them on one day. In this day and age of streaming and Bly Rays, VHS will be an experience.

This weekend has made me moody and I don't want to socialise much. I hate to admit that I'm trying to make food stretch as long as I can so it'll be less of a burden to deal with food next fortnight, let's hope I don't get sick from doing it.

Waiting for my dad to come by who wants to store something, will I be at home today? Yes I will.

Thanks son, I'll come by and put it in your garage, oh by the way, I need your help carrying it into the garage.

Thanks dad, just make it all the more inconvenient and disturb me when I don't want to see anyone and have a headache.

sigh

I hesitated to post Life Of Boris, because with the Ukraine situation it seems really touchy. But while his cousin is/was in the military Boris himself is a civilian using a fake accent and likely not even Russian. (People speculate that he's Estonian.)

So here's a playlist of extremely budget food ideas if you're really stuck. This dude's specialty is surviving the end of the month. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbS0HkS8Xsoq1j4kiZFLP9w1e3pQADR3g

Not too stuck on what to do. Just wish I had money to actually do things with.

Iโ€™m going to see if I can get some more cherry tomatoes from work, they add a nice sweet taste to my sandwiches at the moment.

My rock bottom is just 2 minute noodles and a bunch of frozen veggies.

Iโ€™ll have at it when Iโ€™m in a better mood. Videos donโ€™t click with me when Iโ€™m not in the mood because I have to stop everything Iโ€™m doing to watch one.

I hope things improve soon. Lemme know if you need any help finding places or ways to get food

2

Iโ€™ll be ok. I have a lot of pasta and pasta sauce here and a lot in the freezer as well.

Thank you for your thoughts and help

2

Yeah though I was left feeling annoyed.

Clearly I wasnโ€™t feeling well and I said I wasnโ€™t doing well but he didnโ€™t ask about what was wrong, just interested in putting the glass table top in the garage to store for some god forsaken reason.

Pretty pissed with him that he didnโ€™t a shit.

Presenting the beginnings of the metric polypipe DOME OF DOOM for the chilli patch.

Garden ties and an old bike tube as lashing. I doubt it'll be sturdy enough but we'll see

Think I might wait and think about the netting for the next week and just see if the frame holds up.

7

This is giving off pyramid vibes. Maybe put razor blades under it to sharpen them up (and discourage the chilli thief).

I know. It's lucky I didn't reef it across the room.

I'll take a rain check on those gummy worms. I've been very good on the sugar lately.

Edit: whoops I replied to the wrong comment. I knew this would happen some day.

I wish a bug was as entertaining to me as it is to my cat.

That said, big day of interview preparation coming up. Got my friend to help me with some technical stuff this evening so that will help heaps.

Enjoy your day everyone โญ

My cat finds onion skins to be very entertaining. Cats are very adept at finding joy in the simple things.

Not enough brain for proper sewing so made twiddles. Very happy with colour match, but the advisability of usage near felines remains to be seen.

It's really nice. You can just see the lovely quality of thread and colours. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Why is it so hard to figure what to write about difficult family stuff in a kind considerate way when dickheads seem to have no trouble finding the words to be nasty .

The crazy yelling guy in my neighbourhood is getting quite deranged. He was sitting at a tram stop screaming incoherently at a bunch of people sitting outside at the pub for a good ten minutes or more, a cop car even drove past entirely unaware. He always sounds really hoarse and threatening, always loud, but I can barely make out what he's saying

6

he sounds like he's in terrible distress

not that he should be scaring people tho

Just drove back home to the city from Ballarat. The smoke is absolutely disgusting there. Got into my apartment and promptly spewed my guts out. Not sure if it's the smoke or something I had.

5

Thankyou for warning. Cooking had covered it so far. Doors all taped up now!

I just cracked open a window in my CBD apartment. The smoke is here now too!

4

Yep i was driving with it as it slowly got clearer but still a haze through the city. Ballarat itself though suuuuuuuuuucks! It was enough to hurt your eyes.

Something ate a bunch of my chillies :(

Not all of them, only the ripe ones but i'm still upset.

I'll try and put a little cage over them and see if that helps.

5

Well at least you can rest easy knowing there's a little critter out there with a sore bum and regrets.

7

Only because you mention itโ€™s only the ripe ones that have been taken.

4

I had that a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a rat. Little bugger had grabbed them all and taken them back to its nest.

Dinner has been made and devoured.

Took some slices of bread, did some Devon and Strasberg, onions, cherry tomato and a fried egg and some tomato sauce.

Wasnโ€™t bad at all, hopefully it donโ€™t feel hungry later but I might too if off with some ice cream depending on how Iโ€™m feeling.

Cool. I only really know greetings and food in arabic because that's how I communicate with my in-laws. My husband says I have a bogan pronunciation which he loves. I did understand shookrun when you replied yesterday because that was my very first arabic word.

Maltese friends say they can understand most arabic spoken.

10/50 - now I'm questioning if I'm a true Aussie. I didn't know Pharlaps Skeleton and seriously thought his heart was at Science works hahahahahaha!

Only 5. Which is hilarious. Iโ€™m rather good at general trivia, just useless at the sport/celebrity crap that some pass off as it.

She's coming home on Tuesday and hopefully full of cuddles. I hope I don't get the cold shoulder for putting her in the cattery.

5

She'll be happy to see you. Just give lots of cuddles. ( And she's lucky to have such a caring furmom/friend as you ๐Ÿฅฐ )

Questions for those who use water chestnuts. Is it ok to sample them from a can before they get to the wok? Basically will I die? I may have eaten 1/4 can.

4
Rusty Ravenreply
aussie.zone

All food in cans is cooked and sterilized so should be fine to eat straight from the can. There are few riskier foods in general than fish which we eat straight from the can all the time without a second thought, so water chestnuts should not worry you at all.

4
CEOofmyhouse56reply
aussie.zone

I was thinking more if they're ok to eat raw like cabbage cooked or raw good. Potatoes cooked yes. Potatoes raw no.

1
Rusty Ravenreply
aussie.zone

Everything in a can is cooked. The process involves being heated in a pressure cooker and held at above boiling temperatures for a length of time. So it definitely passes the cooked test. But even if it didn't water chestnuts are also fine to eat raw. So if there are still any left feel free to finish off the can.

3
Catfishreply
