I had to get my cat a gigantic carrying case meant for smaller dogs because she'd just grab the outsides of the box and freak out. It's always a nightmare to get her in a box when she doesn't want to be lol
Now I just leave some toys in there and some of my clothing so she uses it as a place to hang out and it's not as stressful to get her to go in it.

Maybe there is a difference between being forced to do something and being free to do it or not.
When my cat came back hurt she got into the carrier by herself, she new she needed the vet help
