I was a loyal RIF user, and unfortunately it doesn't look like that's getting a lemmy version. I'll try any new lemmy app that pops up, but I think there's a good chance i stick with jerboa.
I bought RIF years ago, for context, and so far I'm liking Liftoff over Jerboa. For one it's getting more frequent updates, but overall of the two Liftoff feels closer to what I'm used to interface-wise.
I like the Liftoff interface, but its content density is poor, and its arbitrary choice of federation source magically prevents me from commenting on the majority of posts, not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts.
I'm liking Jerboa more than I initially did. It need improvements of course but things will eventually come along. What all third party apps desperately need is adding functions for moderators. Everytime I have to log in to the browser version of my instance just to pin or delete spam comments. Not very convenient.
Have you tried Summit? The swiping to get the sidebars is an adjustment for me coming from RIF but I feel it has the best look and feature set. I also like Thunder, but it's lacking some features of the other apps.
Having extensively used LiftOff, Jerboa, Connect, and Wefwef, Thunder is my RIF replacement. I think it's overlooked because it's not on the store. LiftOff is a decent second option, so I'm still keeping an eye on it, but itdoesn't feel like "home".
Not the person you replied to but I really like thunder. It feels a little earlier in development (like I dont think it has a way to go view unread replies and stuff yet) but the UI feels super promising
Same. But I know those things take time. So I'm not writing anything off yet. I just want to support Devs. I got few apps installed, playing around with them and see which one I'll eventually stick to.
Yeah, I've tried most of the ones everyone is talking about but none of them have compared to Jerboa imo. I think people are too quick to look for alternatives. I'll still probably hop to Boost once it's out, just because that's what I used for reddit and I'm used to it. But Jerboa is pretty good.
Agreed, sync was my favorite reddit app but honestly I'm really enjoying jerboa, and love that its open source. I wish the sync Dev lots of success though, his reddit app was worth every penny and he always did right by his users
Am I the only one that's been having issues? I keep getting errors or comments not loading. I tried liftoff a bit ago and haven't had any issues on it so far
Posting from connect. Haven't been back to jerboa in a month or so but at that point connect was winning on features/bugs/the ability to create an account.
No but honestly, if Boost is going to be anything like it was then it's just a no brainer. He had by far the most customizable 3rd party app.
He was also always very responsive, I have had a few conversations with him over the years and he's added features and fixed bugs on different devices I was using at so I'm glad he's going to be continuing. My main hope is that the kbin API comes out so he can add support for it. I love Firefox but I miss my AMOLED themes with boost.
Currently using liftoff but I am also waiting for the boost release. It was the only app I have used for reddit in the last 5 years. Looked really nice and I never found any issues outside maybe 1 outage which I think was caused by reddit.
Liftoff is quite good - I don't think I'll move off of it. Jerboa is also great, but it currently has an issue while typing that makes commenting way too much effort.
I just need account and subscription management handled better in Liftoff. I appreciate being able to toggle between subscriptions on different instances, but I'd like it to toggle the active user over to the account associated with the selected instance/subscriptions. Too easy to cross contaminate.
Sync cannot come to Lemmy fast enough, sorry. Been using it for enough years that I will automatically trust it over everything else and I'm so used to it feature-wise that it's not even worth giving other apps a shot when I know it's in the pipeline.
Tried a bunch of apps and settled on Sync and ended up using it for years. Really solid app and agree about trusting it. I'm on kbin now but that may change once it's released.
I did, it does not have a tablet UI either. I found the iOS like UI jarring to use loll. It's a well made app but after using Sync for a decade+ any other app feels underwhelming.
I never used Sync before. One of the things i liked about Relay is it had all the ways of handling post. Opening videos in overlay windows and such. Does sync behave like that?
Might have to try Connect. I started with Liftoff and it's really nice. I even tried just saving the Lemm.ee site to my homepage since the mobile version is really good. Currently on Jerboa and loving it. All the 3rd party choices already available is actually really surprising. Still can't wait for Boost though!

That said they're both good apps.

I worry that the RIF dev is backing the wrong horse. They decided to build an app for Squabbles or something.
They're using Tildes and Lemmy. Maybe they like Tildes more or think it has more of a need for another app than Lemmy does. Not a competition, really.
tildes is sorely lacking in the mobile app space so it's only fair
Tildes

Same. It's a huge learning curve for me to use any of these with all the swiping.
I second Liftoff as a once RIF user

Hadn't heard of Thunder yet. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for suggesting!

Jerboa has done the job for sure. I will switch to Sync right away but Jerboa will stick around depending on what shape Sync is in.
So nice to have choices!

On Jerboa right now. It's had some major growing pains, and they're ongoing; that's being said, it's improving rapidly.
I love the diversity of 3P apps.
Agreed, sync was my favorite reddit app but honestly I'm really enjoying jerboa, and love that its open source. I wish the sync Dev lots of success though, his reddit app was worth every penny and he always did right by his users
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Jerboa has been out for 1.5 years.
Don't forget Connect
The developer has been incredibly responsive to community feedback and there have been almost daily updates.
Connect is ridiculously stable and feature-complete for how new it is. Definitely deserves to be mentioned.
Yep, I've been using it for about a week and it's the better app for Android. Kudos for Connect.
Am I the only one that's been having issues? I keep getting errors or comments not loading. I tried liftoff a bit ago and haven't had any issues on it so far
Yup. Using connect right now. It's really a well made app
Posting from connect. Haven't been back to jerboa in a month or so but at that point connect was winning on features/bugs/the ability to create an account.
We just like rockets, okay?

Oh man, and if there's per instance themeing!
Currently using liftoff but I am also waiting for the boost release. It was the only app I have used for reddit in the last 5 years. Looked really nice and I never found any issues outside maybe 1 outage which I think was caused by reddit.
There is a pre registration for Boost for Lemmy
Liftoff is quite good - I don't think I'll move off of it. Jerboa is also great, but it currently has an issue while typing that makes commenting way too much effort.
I like Liftoff enough that I've stopped looking at every new thing that is coming out.
I just need account and subscription management handled better in Liftoff. I appreciate being able to toggle between subscriptions on different instances, but I'd like it to toggle the active user over to the account associated with the selected instance/subscriptions. Makes me sad I moved to iOS late last year, but very happy to know Sync is coming to Lemmy!
Get Memmy
Been using it on TestFlight since I moved over. Fantastic app so far!
Memmy is good. Very good and it gets updates almost every day it seems.
I'm using Jerboa now, but waiting for Boost.
I have tried them all, I think, and found things to be frustrating (though certainly understanding the rapid development phase we're in).
I was using Connect and liked it, but struggled to search for Communities vs within Communities when I wanted one or the other.
Many other apps did a poor job (in my opinion) of visually presenting data.
Some it was just weird navigation behavior that felt completely unintuitive.
Anyway, they all had pros and cons and I'm sure will get better and better.
For now, Jerboa seems like the best "waiting room" app for me.
Coming from RIF, I feel pretty much at home in Liftoff.
Currently using Thunder and love it
It should be noted that wefwef is relaunching and putting bug fixes into its new incarnation as Voyager.
Still on Jerboa. It does the things I need it to do.
Sync cannot come to Lemmy fast enough, sorry. Been using it for enough years that I will automatically trust it over everything else and I'm so used to it feature-wise that it's not even worth giving other apps a shot when I know it's in the pipeline.

now using Connect and it really is a great app! Some quirks here and there but not too shabby.
Excited for Sync and Boost, but damn, Thunder looks even more interesting... It's actually the smoothest Flutter app I've used so far
Was using Boost for Reddit, but been pleasantly surprised by Jerboa. Personally, like the app 👍
Writing this from Memmy right now. Can't recommend it enough.
I've been using sync for years but I have missed Apollo. It'll be tough.
What are you using now? I never used Apollo but I've been using wefwef and from what I understand it's practically a clone of Apollo.
It really is almost exactly the same. I've been using a combo of wefwef and memmy
I am using Connect right now. Quite Buggy but the devs are very quick to respond and they started spamming bug fixes after fixes over the past week.
Don't play with my feelings, I thought that they were already released.
So many choices. I love it!
Yep!
Looking forward to Sync. Any of these apps have a tablet interface yet? I tried few of them and they didn't have a tablet UI.
Yeah, that's the #1 reason I'm excited about Sync for Lemmy. I miss the two pane layout.
Have you tried wefwef?
I did, it does not have a tablet UI either. I found the iOS like UI jarring to use loll. It's a well made app but after using Sync for a decade+ any other app feels underwhelming.
Will any of these allow me to block entire instances (ex. Block the nswf instance from the “All” feed)?
Connect just added that (today, iirc).
(settings -> block settings)
Great!
are you from the future? I'll be there when they come out lol
I never used Sync before. One of the things i liked about Relay is it had all the ways of handling post. Opening videos in overlay windows and such. Does sync behave like that?
Don't forget slide
Jeroba has a purple theme so until one comes out that allows me to filter out entire words and phrases I'll stay on it
Might have to try Connect. I started with Liftoff and it's really nice. I even tried just saving the Lemm.ee site to my homepage since the mobile version is really good. Currently on Jerboa and loving it. All the 3rd party choices already available is actually really surprising. Still can't wait for Boost though!
Mentioned it in a sub-comment, but I'm liking Summit the most, having tried Jerboa, Connect, Liftoff and Thunder beforehand
Let's show some love for summit. Can also enable dynamic theming color to match your android system color scheme.
Meanwhile I'm here waiting impatiently for boost for lemmy
I've never used sync or boost so I'm good sticking with Thunder because it's pretty much exactly what I need.
Sleeping on Memmy? It’s already near perfect.
Memmy is iOS and only. This is an Android post.
i wouldn’t exactly say perfect, but it’s better than we feed so far in my opinion
What about Memmy?
Memmy hasn't been released for Android yet, so no one here would think of Memmy
