[Community Update] Some testing numbers and more info from the Mlem Team!

Hi, Mlem App Community!

We on the Mlem Team wanted to share some data from our TestFlight so far with you all to let you know how popular the app is.

The Testing Numbers

So far, we have just over 8k beta testers for the Mlem App! That's out of 10k total test slots in TestFlight, which means that we're close to our max allowable testers! That's a lot of adoption for a week since our announcement!

Also, 89% of currently-registered testers have the latest build installed and are currently testing (meaning 11% deleted the app but are still registered), and there's a 34.6% reporting rate for crashes-- meaning some of you could do a better job with crash reporting.

New Recruits

Last week, we posted a call for new contributors, and you, the community, stepped up! We've added a bunch of new developers and designers, including those with expertise in accessibility compliance, helping us to make sure that everyone will be able to use our app, using all of the system's features iOS provides and meeting a11y standards. With new UX designers, we've overhauled our interface, and with new graphic designers, we're bringing a great starter set of custom icons, with more to follow in future releases. And, most importantly, after an internal reorganization, higher-quality and more regular updates will follow with more strict project management, bug tracking, and resource delegation-- all thanks to the lemmy community coming together to make a great app for everyone!

Development & Feedback

The app testing is going well and development is proceeding apace. We've heard tons of positive feedback, and we're thrilled to hear that everyone is loving the app. We've also been listening to all of your excellent feedback. We've put everything into our Issue Tracker on our GitHub project page, and we're working through them, along with all of the bugs you've been reporting and new features we're planning, and we're working on a huge update for our next beta, which we hope to release very soon!

So, keep testing, stay excited, and check back here for updates, and discussion about the Mlem App!

Cheers!

When the app crashes, does sending the report help even if we don’t give any additional details?

9

Thanks for all the hard work, I've been using the app exclusively since leaving reddit and I'm excited for the updates

8

How often will there be updates, and when can we expect the next one? Love the app, but could use some improvements which I’m sure will be implemented!

6

yay!!! i'm so glad to hear about all this. i just downloaded yesterday but am really enjoying so far :]

6

I've been enjoying the app so far. I'm looking forward to see where the app goes in regards to added features and UI improvements.

Keep up the good work Mlem team!

How am I supposed to send crash reports if the app never crashes? :P

5

Question for you or the team: Do you guys still need an UX designer? Currently have some time left and would love to contribute.

Love your work but please put someone on ipad support!

Hello. Former Apollo user here. I’d be happy to volunteer as a beta tester. Please let me know if you’re still looking for people!

4

I’m having a great time with the app! It’s making navigating lemmy very easy. I’ve only crashed like 3 times! (Only reported to because my finger slipped on the third one)

3

Thank you all for everything you have been doing, and all you continue to do! Much appreciated!

I would like to volunteer to be a beta tester

For those who read this, to join the beta, please follow the link in BrooklynMan’s reply to this post, and then click on the link to TestFlight

2

Well you can just join the beta test via TestFlight.

1

Currently says “This beta is full.” Any plans or ability to expand the beta?

2

Do I reply to that post? Or am I missing some link?

For those who read this, to join the beta you click on the link in the post linked in the parent comment

lovely app, really unfortunate that apple ui frameworks have absurd compatibility requirements, like my phone is perfectly capable of running this app, but it doesn’t bc it doesn’t support the latest ios version smh :/

2

Great work. Thanks for your hard work.

I’d like to make a couple of points if that’s ok:

  • I had marked some subs as favourites within the Mlem app, but they have been removed from my favourites since the update to version 0.0.7 Beta (I’m not complaining btw, just wanted to make you aware in case it affects other users too).

  • I noticed that the posts themselves support Dynamic Text (a feature that enables users to choose the size of onscreen text in iOS) as well as the text box to leave a reply…. But the actual comments on the posts are always at a fixed size. It makes it difficult for people with visual impairments because they can’t increase the size of the font in the comments. I can’t find this issue mentioned on the Github board. Am I allowed to request the feature there even though I’m not a dev?

Again, thanks for your hard work.

Cool, nice to hear about the progress and foremost nice to see, that the app is no one-man-show anymore!

2

Thank you for the great work on this app! Looking forward to seeing it grow!

I’m not used to TestFlight or GitHub in general, but how do I download Mlem?

1

A few times when the app crashed my keyboard bugged out and covered the entire screen and I had to cancel the send bug report. I don’t know if others are experiencing this issue but I’ll try to send bug reports when I can!

Downloaded the app today. Thanks for all your hard work. I’m looking forward to seeing the app improve :)

You'll be glad to know that we've been taking a lot of the community's suggestions and bug reports (including suggestions for wipe interactions and iPad landscape scaling) and are planning a big new beta release soon that will contain a lot of new features and an overhauled interface.

as this is an early beta, many features are still missing or may not work as expected in some instances. with every release, we hope to improve the app for our testers so that we have a great app experience for 1.0! In the meantime, we hope you continue to enjoy testing the beta.

Also, hop on over to Matrix and join the Mlem App Space to continue the discussion with our community there! (links in post)

slide? our app does not currently allow you to slide to vote on posts or comments.

we do not make that app. We make the Mlem app. you're posting in the wrong community.

1

check back in a couple of days (or sign up now for our testflight). we're about to release a major update to our beta app, Mlem!

not currently, although we've been looking into it. as it stands, there are some fundamental API differences that make bringing kbin into the same app difficult. however, the kbin devs have been discussing API changes that may make this easier in the future, so we'll always be considering it if it seems more realistic in the future!
