Karma got nothing to do with it. It’s all about being at the top of the pile.

Before Reddit and Digg, it was all about trying to get first comment on Slashdot.

Humans are always going to have stupid games to see who can be the first, or who can make it to the top of something. Is the entire foundation ESPN is built on.

It’s a phase, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Remember a week ago it was not pooping for 3 days? Something else will take the place of beans eventually.

Worked a 12 hour, basically on standby. All I had was my phone with 3 other dudes.. The bean memes are getting to me xD

There's a hole everybody's in a rush to fill. On Reddit there's those old classic posts/threads that we could all refer back to whenever it seemed relevant. Broken arms, what's new pussycat ect. Always someone new would ask what the deal was, and somewhere down that thread you'd find the link so you could revisit it again like an old friend. So far we have... beans.

You're selling Lemmy short. Lemmy's got beans, AND the 3 days no pooping.

I don’t care for the bean memes, but hey, it’s making a few people happy haha. I’m for that.

It’s generating content and clicks. Which is INCREDIBLY important for a social media. The content doesn’t have to be good, and obviously Lemmy isn’t the same as Reddit or other social media in terms of value of upvotes, or algorithms. However it’s important for USERS to see content that’s fresh hitting the front page. Even if it’s the same topic and shitposting. This helps attract other creators which in turn brings more users. It’s the shit circle of (social) life.

They’re getting a bit overplayed at this point maybe. But they’re driving engagement on this site and engagement is the key to growth so I say have at it you beanie bois

I saw a post yesterday where someone said something to the effect of "I heard Lemmy will upvote anything here's a can of fucking beans" and I found it kind of funny. Was that actually part of a running joke? I haven't seen any other reference to beans. Before or since.

I believe that post began the joke, the lemmy shitpost community just ran with the bean memes after that.

You reached the end

It's just like reddit ran the joke into the ground! | Spyke
