TIL about the woman who sued herself
In 2011 a woman named Barbara Bagley caused a car accident that eventually led to her husband's death. Since she was driving the insurance company wasn't going to pay since it was her common law husband. So she took this roundabout way to force their compliance and pay for his medical debts that she inherited.
She sued herself for damages as the sole heir and personal representative of her late husband's estate, essentially acting as both plaintiff and defendant in the case. Although the district court dismissed her suit, the Court of Appeal reversed the decision and Barbara eventually won the lawsuit, compelling her auto insurance company, State Farm, to pay her damages.

I remember legaleagle talking about stuff like this. The insurance policies are worded weirdly ((albeit mostly to stop scammers)) but it leads to weird stuff like this where Normal people have to go roundabout to get things done.
Its why a woman "sued" her eight year old nephew. Because she fell due to him the health insurance wouldn't settle unless she pressed charges due to the wording blah blah.
All I see is a system which priorities fraud over the well being of someone who's PAID for the insurance with their own money. Capitalism 101
