Yeah, it's pretty close to squid as far as texture & flavor. Kinda chewy unless you cook it for a long time. Not something I'd want to make a whole meal out of, but the BBQ joint is all you can eat so we asked for some.

We also weren't expecting them to come out as entire little octopuses, so that was a fun surprise. The little tentacles wiggled as they cooked 😳

What does squid taste like? Also, is calamari squid or octopus?

Calamari is squid. Flavor wise, it really doesn't have much on its own. It's kinda like tofu or mushrooms that absorb the flavors of the sauce and everything else you cook it with.
